Chapter 28 – No, I died (2)
He had assumed control of the Lu family’s enterprise when he was only twenty years old. Over the years, he had made it through big and small upheavals. The business world was like a battlefield. He had encountered countless treacherous old foxes that hid under masks of friendliness and nasty and ungrateful people. Those people had thought he would be easy to cheat and bully because of his youth. But, even in the prime of his youth, Lu Lixing had never lost self-control when faced with setbacks.
And so, he had never thought there would be a day when he would fall victim to a woman.
Staying up all night to work was a normal thing for him. Afterwards, he would rest for two hours to replenish his energy and decrease his sleep deficit. It was easy to fall into a deep sleep after an exhausting night and not be aware of your surroundings. This was why he hadn’t heard Ji Qingqing enter his room.
What a lovely start to the day. When he was half-awake and half-asleep, she had covered his face with a blanket and he had become someone that had “passed away”.
If he hadn’t woken up in time, was she going to have him carried out and cremated?
“Fate is hard to come by. We should cherish it. Lu Lixing, we must have some fate to have gotten married. Take care.” Under the idea that one should be respectful towards the dead, Ji Qingqing decided to forgive him for forcing her to call him “hubby” twenty times last night. “I won’t blame you for what happened last night. Let’s clear the slate between us.”
A person that died was like a light that had been extinguished. Since he had already died, why quibble with him? What was there to argue about?
Ji Qingqing sighed.
Just as she was about to leave, Lu Lixing moved underneath the blanket.
At first, Ji Qingqing thought she had just imagined it. She started at the bed with furrowed brows for a bit.
Soon after, Lu Lixing pushed the blanket down, got out of bed, and expressionlessly looked at her.
The two people looked at each other.
*thump thump*
Ji Qingqing could hear the sound of heart beating.
She was overcome with shock. Did Lu Lixing just woke up?
He wasn’t dead?
Lu Lixing was alive!
Lu Lixing…. was he pretending to be dead?
Didn’t that mean Lu Lixing had heard everything she said?
What had she said?
That she would burn incense and paper money for him.
During this 0.5 second, Ji Qingqing hadn’t thought of a way to excuse herself.
“I haven’t tried hard enough?” Lu Lixing took one step towards her.
“…” Yeah, he had heard everything.
“You’ll observe widowhood for me?” Lu Lixing enigmatically smiled. He took another step towards her.
“…” Ji Qingqing took a step back.
“And you’re going to burn incense and paper money for me?” Lu Lixing’s eyebrows sank.
“…” Ji Qingqing stumbled another a step back.
“We’re husband and wife, but you want to clear the slate with me?” Lu Lixing closely looked at the growing panic in her eyes.
“…” Ji Qingqing’s back touched the wall. She couldn’t retreat any further.
Lu Lixing leaned over and asked her, “I died?”
Ji Qingqing gulped. She tried to show a polite and not embarrassed smile. “Y-You’re not dead.”
Since Lu Lixing had been discharged from the hospital, Ji Qingqing felt that Lu Lixing didn’t seem like sickly person that was about to die. But now, Lu Lixing’s face looked as if he was going to have a heart attack at any moment. It was terrifying.
She wanted to cry.
Her tears would be a lot more heartfelt than her previous sniveling and weeping.
“I… I’m sorry. I called your name, but you didn’t wake up. So, I thought…” Ji Qingqing knew that she had dug a big hole for herself. She felt very guilty too. She lowered her head and didn’t dare to meet Lu Lixing’s eyes.
But, was this really her fault?
She had been loud enough. How could he have not heard her? What was he doing last night to sleep like the dead today? Out catching ghosts?
“What were you thinking? That I died?”
Under Lu Lixing’s high pressure gaze, Ji Qingqing felt overcome by shame. Holding her heavy head in her hand, she shook her head as if she was facing death.
Could she admit it?
No way. She couldn’t admit that!
Lu Lixing expressionly said, “No, I died.
