In the World of Type-Moon, Starting as Morgan's Husband

Chapter 14: 14. A King is Both King and Father

Morgan did not expect King Uther to want to have a private conversation with you.

She tried to explain your potential danger to King Uther to prevent such a meeting from happening.

But King Uther silenced her with just a glance, making it clear that her objections were unwelcome.

A king's command is not to be contradicted.

Morgan bowed and took her leave.

Just before leaving, she cast a meaningful glance at you.

You returned her gaze.

In that brief moment of eye contact, you conveyed your promise not to say anything further, which eased her worries a bit.

After Morgan left.

Silence spread throughout the tent.

King Uther, seated in the high position, made a gentle gesture, and the knights heard an astonishing order.

"Leave as well."

"I wish to speak with him alone."

None of the knights dared to question the command—after all, even Morgan's objections had not swayed King Uther.

Soon, the atmosphere, which had been like a trial, shifted to a private meeting between Ian and King Uther.

To be honest,

Ian did not think this was a wise choice—if he were indeed the White Dragon's minion, this solo meeting was a golden opportunity.

There was no need to kill the king; even a serious injury could alter the course of the entire British war.

Had the aging king become senile?

But King Uther's next words surprised Ian.

King Uther stood up from his high seat and walked slowly toward Ian.

Like his brother Vortigern, King Uther was also old.

His movements were not as agile as one might expect but still carried the unhurried grace of a king.

He approached Ian, drew his sword.

The silver gleam of the British-style long sword spoke silently of the king's considerable strength.

Ian closed his eyes, prepared to accept whatever might happen to him, but instead, he heard the sound of something heavy hitting the ground.

At almost the same moment, Ian felt his hands and neck become free again.

He opened his eyes and saw that King Uther had severed the chains binding him.

The aged king sheathed his sword and gazed at his enemy, the White Dragon's minion.

"It's been a long time, Ian."

You realized your identity was exposed.

But you also realized that you had never revealed your identity or intentions, and this was your first meeting with this wise king after many years.

Your mind was filled with countless questions, all pointing to one: How did he know?

King Uther seemed to read your thoughts and addressed your confusion.

"I remember every knight who held a sword for Britain."

King Uther put his sword back into its scabbard.

"Ian, a knight promoted by my daughter, disappeared many years ago."

"I do not know what happened, but your swordsmanship is exactly the same as his."

Realizing that continuing might implicate Morgan, Ian immediately spoke up:

"Do not compare me to that knight."

"I am the White Dragon's blade, destined to destroy all of Britain! Kill me, King Uther, or you will surely regret this moment of mercy!"

"In that case—"

King Uther, still looking at the eager Ian, whose intent was to distance himself from Morgan, showed a confident and commanding presence.

With a clang.

King Uther threw his sword at Ian's feet.

"Then prove your claim."

You looked at the sword on the ground, your hands trembling.

You picked it up and walked toward King Uther step by step.

But King Uther showed no fear; he did not move back an inch. His confidence in his judgment was unwavering.

You realized that King Uther, like Vortigern, was a ruler hardened by years of experience.

You raised the sword in your hand.

But instead of aiming at King Uther, you aimed at yourself!

Ian decided to commit suicide.

Since your identity was exposed on both sides, before worse things happened, you chose to erase all traces with your own death.

Britain could have another disloyal knight, but it could not have a despised princess!

With a clang.

King Uther deflected Ian's sword with his bare hands.

The blade was ruthless, and blood dripped from his hands, falling to the ground—a scene painful to behold.

But King Uther seemed entirely indifferent.

He clenched his fist, holding onto the royal blood without a single drop escaping.

"Was I right, Ian? You are indeed Ian."

At this point, Ian could no longer deny it.

He nodded and took full responsibility for everything.

"King, everything was my plan; Lady Morgan knew nothing of this."

"So if there are any penalties, let me bear them alone. Lady Morgan… is innocent."

Upon hearing this, King Uther turned his back, remaining silent for a long time.

As you watched his back, you felt a sense of melancholy and regret.

You had an inkling that you were about to learn a very important secret.

"Ian." King Uther's voice came.

"Tell me, how do you think this war will end for me?"

"Your Majesty, you will surely win."

"But what if I told you that I am destined to fail in this war? How would you feel?"

"…"

Amid Ian's silence, King Uther turned around.

"There is no need to be silent. I already knew this when I set out, but for the people of Britain, I will fight until the last moment."

"Then, let Lady Morgan come…"

Ian was still trying to stress Morgan's importance to King Uther.

But King Uther simply replied, "Ian, Morgan is my daughter. If I could pass the throne to her, I would."

"But she is too distant from what is required to save Britain. I cannot entrust the task of reviving Britain to her."

"But, Your Majesty, you allowed her to go to the front lines." Ian still didn't want to give up.

"You are right."

King Uther sighed deeply.

"That is ultimately my daughter… How could I bear to see her in tears?"

Despite being the King of Britain, King Uther still had his emotions.

You realized that everything Morgan had done might have been observed by him long ago.

But as a father, he indulged it all.

"I will hold the front line, until the very end."

King Uther placed his sword sheath in front of Ian.

"I believe you are a person worthy of trust."

"In the years to come, I entrust my daughter to you."
