In Naruto, the System Asks Me to Entrust Pokémon

Chapter 53: Chapter 54: Cynthia Can’t Capture a Pokémon?

"Ryo, get up! The Pokémon are hungry! Why are you still sleeping?"

Early the next morning in Konoha, at the Pokémon Home, Cynthia stood at Ryo's door, knocking loudly with a frown on her face.

Inside the room, Ryo lay on his bed, staring blankly at the ceiling with a bitter expression.

Last night, because there weren't enough rooms, Ryo had to spend the whole night finding someone to help him build a temporary room for Cynthia.

It took until the early hours of the morning, causing him to completely miss his usual sleep time.

Initially, he thought it wasn't a big deal. After all, he could sleep in the next day.

But what he hadn't expected was that, as soon as the sun barely rose, Cynthia was already at his door yelling and banging non-stop.

She didn't just call out once—she kept going relentlessly!

Ryo didn't know what to say. Logically, she should've been just as tired after going to sleep late. How did she wake up so early?

Earlier than his usual wake-up time! Does she not need sleep at all?

Sigh

Ryo sighed, listening to the endless knocking outside. Finally, he sat up in defeat. "Alright, stop knocking. I'm getting up!"

Putting on a hopeless expression, Ryo got dressed, opened the door, and walked out.

Facing Cynthia outside, he couldn't help but ask, "Aren't you tired? Why are you up so early?"

"Hmm? Tired?"

Cynthia tilted her head in confusion, then shook it. "Not really. I was too excited thinking about the Diancie egg. I couldn't sleep at all!"

Her eyes sparkled as she spoke, looking as if she couldn't wait to rush back and continue staring at the Diancie egg.

Ryo was speechless. If you wanted to look at it so badly, couldn't you have gone on your own? Why did you have to drag me into it?

Sigh

Shaking his head again, Ryo didn't bother to argue. Taking some energy cubes, he walked toward the backyard.

"By the way, Ryo," Cynthia called from behind. "What exactly is my job here? You didn't mention it yesterday."

Yesterday, she had been too excited about the Diancie egg to ask. It wasn't until she was lying in bed that she remembered.

Hearing this, Ryo froze in place. His lips twitched as realization hit him.

Right, wasn't she supposed to be an employee? He was the boss here!

Turning around, he looked at Cynthia with a blank expression.

"What's with that look?" Cynthia touched her face in confusion. "Is something on my face?"

Without a word, Ryo handed her the energy cubes.

"What's this for?" Cynthia blinked, confused.

Ryo rolled his eyes. "What do you think? Go feed the Pokémon."

"Me? Feed them?" Cynthia asked, surprised.

"Of course! You're the employee here. Who else would do it?" Ryo replied.

Still processing what he said, Cynthia silently accepted the energy cubes.

Ryo nodded in satisfaction and turned to leave.

"Where are you going?" Cynthia called after him.

"To wash up. You go ahead and ask Dragonite and Espeon to call the Pokémon back from the mountains. I'll join you later."

Cynthia nodded without further questions and headed to the backyard.

"Ryo, are these Pokémon all meant to be entrusted to others?" Cynthia asked while feeding the Pokémon.

Ryo nodded. "That's right."

"Then…"

Cynthia glanced at him. "Can I capture one of them?"

Back in her own world, she was used to having Pokémon with her. Suddenly being without one felt strange.

"Hmm?"

Ryo frowned. "You want to capture one of these Pokémon?"

Cynthia nodded. "Yes, is that possible?"

Ryo stroked his chin thoughtfully. "These Pokémon are pretty common. Are you sure you want one?"

Cynthia, after all, was a champion. Her Pokémon were all rare species. He found it hard to believe that any of these would catch her interest.

"It's fine," Cynthia said with a smile. "I'm not planning on battling here. I just want a companion, nothing more."

Seeing she was serious, Ryo reached out to communicate with the system.

"System, can summoned characters capture Pokémon here?"

"No. Summoned characters must obtain Pokémon the same way as the host—through exclusive treasure chests."

Ryo frowned. "So, they have to get them from my treasure chests?"

"Correct, host. Summoned characters have their own designated Pokémon, such as Cynthia's Garchomp, which can also appear in the host's exclusive treasure chests."

"So, if I draw one of her Pokémon, does it belong to me or to her?" Ryo asked, puzzled.

"If it's Cynthia's designated Pokémon, it will belong to her. If it's not, it belongs to you and can be trained as your own."

Ryo's mouth twitched. "Wait, doesn't that lower my chances of getting something good from the chest?"

After all, adding Cynthia's Pokémon to the pool meant his odds of drawing rare items had dropped.

"The host is correct, but Cynthia's Pokémon are generally high-level, so drawing them would still be a significant gain."

Hearing this, Ryo's mood improved a little. That did make sense. Cynthia wasn't like Ash, who tried to capture everything he saw.

Her collection was smaller but made up of exceptionally strong Pokémon.

"Ryo, is something wrong? Does this mean I can't?" Cynthia asked when she noticed his shifting expressions.

Ryo snapped back to reality and looked at her. "No, you can't. These Pokémon are for this world's humans only. Even I can't capture them."

"Not even you?" Cynthia was taken aback.

She knew how close Ryo was with these Pokémon. Wouldn't at least one of them want to go with him willingly?

Ryo noticed her confusion and explained.

"These Pokémon can only grow stronger under the training of humans from this world. Without that, no matter how much we train them—or how much they train themselves—their levels won't increase."
