In Naruto, the System Asks Me to Entrust Pokémon

Chapter 23: Chapter 23: The Mighty Dragonite

Outside the cabin, a group of masked shinobi came to a halt.

One of them surveyed the surroundings, then nodded toward the others and said, "This is the place. Begin the mission. Be careful."

The others nodded in response and swiftly rushed toward the cabin.

Hmm?

The lead ninja pushed the wooden door. It opened effortlessly without resistance, which made him frown in suspicion.

Whoosh—

A gust of wind blew past as a plump, strange-looking creature appeared in front of him.

The creature raised its fist and swung at him with lightning speed.

Before he could react, bam! He was sent flying out of the cabin and crashed hard onto the ground.

"Be alert! We've got an enemy!"

Bang!

The warning had barely escaped his lips when another shinobi was thrown out in a similar fashion.

The team leader, standing outside, watched in shock as his comrades were flung aside. His expression grew grim.

"Retreat!"

He gritted his teeth and gave the command. Without hesitation, he turned to leave.

These were elite jōnin-level shinobi, yet two of them were taken out before they even saw the enemy clearly.

The difference in strength was staggering. Staying any longer would be pure folly.

"Leaving so soon? Since you've come all this way, it's not polite to leave without a proper farewell."

As the group prepared to retreat, a calm voice echoed from inside the cabin.

Ryo stepped out with steady footsteps, holding an Espeon in his arms. Walking beside him was the same Dragonite that had already taken action twice.

Standing in front of the masked ninjas, Ryo smiled as he cast his gaze over them.

The shinobi watched him warily, their eyes full of vigilance.

The team leader stepped forward again, trying to sound diplomatic. "Sir, we apologize for disturbing you. We'll leave immediately."

They weren't fools. It was clear that their mission had become impossible.

Continuing would be suicidal. Even though they had been trained as death soldiers, survival instincts were still intact.

Ryo's expression shifted slightly. Root, huh? But why didn't they act as arrogantly as he expected?

According to the usual narrative, shouldn't they be acting superior and condescending?

Yet here they were, apologizing politely and even lowering their heads.

After some thought, it dawned on him.

In novels, Root agents always seemed reckless and brash. But in reality, the training they endured was brutal and manipulative.

Anyone who survived such rigorous conditioning couldn't possibly be a fool.

If they were truly incompetent, they wouldn't have made it this far, let alone become jōnin.

Damn novels misled me, Ryo thought to himself.

He quickly adopted a serious expression and addressed the team leader. "Why did Danzo send you here?"

Why did he immediately suspect Danzo and not Hiruzen Sarutobi?

The answer was simple. At this point, Hiruzen was too cautious and unlikely to make a move on someone like Ryo without solid information.

Danzo, however, was a different story. With his ambition, schemes, and the infamous title of "Konoha's Pot King," it was highly plausible that he would come after him.

The team leader's eyes flickered with surprise before he shook his head. "I don't understand what you're talking about."

Ryo chuckled. "No need to deny it. Dragonite, teach them a lesson."

It didn't matter whether they admitted it or not. He was already certain of the truth.

Roar!

Dragonite nodded, flapping its small wings. In an instant, it rushed toward the shinobi with a speed that seemed to merge with the wind.

In the blink of an eye, Dragonite appeared before the nearest ninja, raising its claws and slamming down hard.

Bam!

The ninja was sent flying, crashing into the ground unconscious before he even realized what hit him.

"Sir, if you already know who we are, must you go this far?"

The team leader's pupils shrank as he witnessed Dragonite's incredible speed. His voice trembled slightly as he spoke.

Ryo smiled faintly. "Do you think I'm afraid of Danzo?"

The shinobi fell silent for a moment before speaking again. "And what about Konoha? Are you willing to become its enemy?"

Ryo spread his hands. "You're overestimating your importance. This is my territory. Even if I kill you all, nothing will happen to me."

He didn't believe Hiruzen would act against him, not after discovering the existence of Pokémon.

"And even if I do become Konoha's enemy, so what? I'm not afraid."

The team leader remained silent for a long moment before finally offering a compromise. "We apologize for disturbing you. Since some of our people have already been injured, can we leave it at that?"

Ryo shook his head. "No. Dragonite, continue."

If he let them go now, Danzo might think he was afraid.

It was better to deal a heavy blow once and for all, ensuring Danzo wouldn't dare make another move in the future.

Hearing Ryo's command, Dragonite once again sprang into action. Its sharp claws flashed, and in an instant, another ninja fell unconscious to the ground.

The squad leader's eyes burned with anger as he glanced at the two remaining subordinates. His face turned cold as he commanded, "Hold off that creature!"

Without waiting for a response, he shifted his steps and charged directly toward Ryo.

Dragonite was powerful, far beyond their ability to handle. But Ryo—a human without any trace of chakra—surely they could deal with him, right?

The two other shinobi immediately understood the plan. Without hesitation, they moved to intercept Dragonite and buy time for their captain.

Ryo noticed the squad leader's movement and couldn't help but chuckle bitterly. So, they're playing that trick now, huh?

Dragonite, however, wasn't as calm. Its eyes turned fierce, and it let out an angry roar.

"Roooar!"

Electricity crackled along its claws as arcs of lightning danced in the air, accompanied by a series of snapping sounds.

Its wings flapped with greater intensity, and its speed increased dramatically.

Whoosh!

In a flash, Dragonite appeared before the two approaching shinobi, its lightning-charged fist swinging toward one of them.

Bang!

The punch landed with a resounding thud. The shinobi's eyes bulged as blood spurted from his mouth. His body flew backward at high speed, crashing into the forest, snapping several trees along the way.

Dragonite didn't bother to look at its first victim. It spun around and lashed out with its tail—a powerful Dragon Tail—toward the second ninja.

The remaining shinobi barely had time to react before the tail struck him squarely.

Thwack!

He flew through the air, following the same unfortunate path as his comrade, disappearing into the dense woods.

With the two threats taken care of, Dragonite glanced at Ryo. Seeing the squad leader rapidly closing the distance, its expression became anxious.

Without hesitation, Dragonite activated Extreme Speed. Its body was enveloped in light, transforming into a streak of brilliance as it hurtled toward the squad leader.
