Chapter 9: Suit online
After thanking Jessica and making his way back to his apartment, Ash's mind was buzzing with questions. He couldn't stop thinking about Jessica Jones. In his world, she was a superhero with a complicated and tragic past. Her story in the comics was harsh—her run-in with Killgrave, the mind-controlling villain, had left her traumatized. And now, she was standing in front of him, saving him from a robbery. It was hard to believe.
"She's supposed to be safe right now, isn't she?" Ash muttered to himself as he walked faster, glancing over his shoulder just to make sure he wasn't being followed. "In the comics, Killgrave doesn't control her until later. And she doesn't become a detective until after all that trauma." He frowned, the unease creeping in.
But the timeline didn't seem to match. Either she had already encountered Killgrave and was now a private investigator trying to keep her life together, or this reality was a little different, and she hadn't gone through that nightmare yet. Either way, Ash made a promise to himself then and there—if the worst hadn't happened to her yet, he would make sure it never did. He couldn't stand the idea of her going through that.
Finally reaching his apartment, Ash hurried inside and locked the door. He took a deep breath, leaning against it for a moment. His heart was still racing, the adrenaline from the robbery and his encounter with Jessica slowly fading. He had been in this world for less than a day, and already things were getting crazy.
But he couldn't let that shake him. He had something important to do—he needed to finish building his suit. That thought brought him back to the manual he'd gotten from the inventing machine. He glanced at it, lying on the small table in his living room, and felt a surge of excitement.
He grabbed the manual and flipped it open to the first page. But as he scanned the instructions, he remembered the other issue he'd been avoiding. His apartment was way too small to build something as big and complicated as a super suit.
"Right… space. I need more space." Ash looked around, his tiny apartment feeling more cramped by the second. "Good thing I have a gadget for that."
Ash reached into his pocket and pulled out a gadget that looked like a small sticker shaped like a door. It was called the Wallpaper House. When placed on a wall, it could turn into a real, full-sized door that led to a secret base inside. There were different versions of the gadget for various purposes—some were small pet houses, others were for offices, and some were even designed for parties. But the one Ash had was special—it was a secret base, designed to give him all the space he needed for his projects.
"Alright, let's make this happen," Ash said to himself, peeling the sticker off the back and placing it on the wall behind his bedroom door. He stepped back to admire his work. The sticker shimmered for a moment, then turned into a solid door, blending perfectly with the wall like it had always been there.
Taking a deep breath, Ash reached for the doorknob and opened it. What he saw on the other side was nothing short of amazing. The room beyond wasn't just an ordinary space—it was a full-blown high-tech base. The walls were sleek, metallic, and the room was filled with all sorts of gadgets, workstations, and tools he could use. There was a large area dedicated to building and inventing, complete with all the equipment he could possibly need.
"Whoa," Ash whispered as he stepped inside. There was more than just a lab in here. To his left was a small living area with a couch and a few chairs, and to his right was a kitchen, fully equipped and ready to use. Further back, he could see doors leading to a bedroom, a bathroom, and what looked like a training room. "This… this is amazing."
Ash couldn't believe his luck. The Wallpaper House had everything he needed, and then some. It was like having his very own secret lair, just like the superheroes in the comics.
"Alright, back to work," Ash reminded himself, shaking off his amazement. He walked over to the workstation in the lab and placed the manual and the toolbox down on the table. He flipped open the manual again, and this time, he was ready to start building.
The first thing on the list was the power system for the suit. According to the manual, this was the core of the suit—it would provide the energy for all the suit's functions, from the strength enhancements to the time manipulation. Without it, the suit wouldn't be able to do anything.
"This is going to take some time," Ash muttered as he scanned the instructions. "But at least it's all laid out pretty clearly."
He opened the toolbox and started pulling out the materials he needed. There were wires, circuits, and a strange glowing crystal that looked like it could power a small city. He followed the manual step by step, connecting the pieces together, soldering where necessary, and making sure everything fit perfectly.
Hours passed as Ash worked tirelessly, his focus completely on the task at hand. He barely noticed the time flying by as he assembled the power core, testing each connection as he went. The manual was simple enough to follow, but the sheer amount of work meant it wasn't a quick task.
By the time he had finished the power system, his hands were covered in grease and his arms ached from the repetitive motions. But he felt a sense of accomplishment wash over him as he looked at the glowing core in front of him.
"There we go. First step done," he said with a tired smile. He leaned back in his chair and stared at the power core for a moment. It pulsed softly with energy, lighting up the workspace around him. He felt proud of himself—he was one step closer to making the suit a reality.
But as he glanced at the clock, he realized just how late it had gotten. "Man, I've been at this for hours," Ash muttered, rubbing the back of his neck. He stood up and stretched, feeling the stiffness in his muscles from sitting for so long. "I should probably take a break."
He decided to check out the rest of his secret base. After all, it wasn't every day you got to explore your very own superhero lair. He wandered through the different rooms, taking it all in. The living area looked comfortable enough for when he needed to rest, and the kitchen was stocked with everything he could possibly need.
He walked over to the bedroom, curious to see what it looked like. The bed was big and looked ridiculously comfortable, with sleek black sheets that matched the rest of the high-tech theme of the base. There was even a wardrobe filled with new clothes in his size, something he hadn't expected.
"Nice," Ash said, grinning as he ran his hand over the fabric. "This is way better than my old apartment."
After exploring for a bit, Ash went back to the lab to look at the next steps in the manual. The next few parts of the suit would take just as much work as the power system. There was the strength-enhancement module, the defense system, and of course, the AI integration he planned to add.
Ash grinned, feeling the excitement bubbling up again. The AI system he wanted to install in the suit was going to be revolutionary. According to the manual, the AI would help him operate the suit more efficiently, learning his habits and movements to assist him in real-time. It would also be able to monitor his vital signs, control the suit's healing functions, and even protect his mind from telepathic attacks.
"This is going to be awesome," Ash said as he started laying out the parts he'd need for the AI integration. He couldn't wait to see it all come together.
The next few days were a blur of work. Ash spent nearly every waking hour in the lab, following the manual and assembling each part of the suit with care. He only stopped to eat, sleep, and occasionally step outside to stretch his legs.
By the end of the fourth day, the suit was nearly complete. Ash stood in front of the table, staring at the final pieces he needed to put together. His eyes were heavy from lack of sleep, but his excitement pushed him forward.
"Just a little more," he whispered, picking up the last part of the AI module. He carefully placed it inside the suit and watched as the suit powered on for the first time. The lights on the suit's chest plate flickered to life, and the AI system booted up with a soft hum.
"Hello, Ash," a calm, mechanical voice said. "Suit systems online."
Ash grinned, a rush of adrenaline surging through him. The suit was alive, and it was everything he had imagined.
"Let's see what you can do," Ash said, his eyes gleaming with anticipation.
A/N: Thanks for reading and sorry for not uploading yesterday, had a lot of stuff to do.
