Chapter 31: Chapter 30
Both Killua's mother, Kikyo, and household members like Gotoh and apprentice butler Canary originated from Meteor City.
However, for Morin, Uvogin, and Nobunaga, who had angered the elders, that path was essentially closed off.
Even if it were possible, they had no intention of becoming bodyguards for hire.
To leave Meteor City, one had two main options: either use Nen to defend oneself against the radiation while traversing the garbage heaps or hitch a ride on a garbage truck from the outside world.
Among the group, only Chrollo, Morin, Machi, Uvogin, and Nobunaga knew Nen, and the latter three were still novices.
In the end, Feitan located a relatively large truck, knocked out the driver, and the group boarded to leave.
This wasn't due to Feitan showing mercy; instead, it was because of a strict rule between Meteor City and the outside world: drivers transporting garbage must not be killed.
The residents of Meteor City depended on these drivers to bring in garbage, which was essential for their survival. Killing them would lead to no more garbage deliveries and potentially push Meteor City toward rebellion and decline.
Under the night sky and silvery moonlight, garbage trucks could occasionally be seen driving toward Meteor City, loaded with waste from the outside world.
The truck's driver would often drape an arm outside the window, gazing at the endless desert under the bright moon, feeling a strange sense of serenity.
Although the group didn't know the city routes, they decided to follow the tracks of other returning vehicles, reasoning that they would eventually reach populated areas.
Franklin, the eldest and most experienced among them, took the wheel.
In the passenger seat, Uvogin laughed boisterously, shouting at the vast wilderness outside.
In the truck bed, Chrollo and Morin were explaining Nen to Feitan and Pakunoda.
"So that mysterious power is called Nen?" Pakunoda asked, her tone curious.
Feitan sat in the corner, his small stature making him appear even smaller. His fingers fidgeted subtly, betraying his unease.
"When we find a suitable city," Chrollo said with a smile, "Morin and I will help unlock your aura nodes. The sooner you learn Nen, the faster your strength will grow."
Pakunoda nodded, and Feitan's fingers gradually stilled. Despite their composed expressions, both were clearly excited.
"Speaking of Nen..." Chrollo suddenly turned to Morin, Machi, and Nobunaga. "I don't know what your Nen types are. I'm a Specialist."
"I see." Nobunaga leaned against the truck, yawning. "Uvogin and I are Enhancers, and Machi's a Transmuter. As for Morin..."
He hesitated for a moment. "According to him, he's both a Conjurer and a Specialist."
"Two types?"
Chrollo raised his left hand to rest his thumb against his chin, his right hand supporting his left elbow—a characteristic pose when deep in thought.
"During the Water Divination test, both Conjuration and Specialization phenomena appeared," Morin explained concisely.
"I see." Chrollo nodded, a smile of intrigue spreading across his face.
"That means your Nen ability must be quite unique," he said, his eyes gleaming. "Have you already developed it?"
"Yeah, I have." Morin grinned and reached into his pocket, pulling out a tablecloth.
The sight immediately drew the attention of Machi and Nobunaga, who sat up straight, anticipation evident in their eyes.
"What's this?" Chrollo asked, looking at the tablecloth. "A Conjuration ability?"
"Something like that," Morin replied, smiling. "It's late—how about I treat everyone to a midnight snack?"
With a snap of his fingers, dishes of steaming hot food materialized on the tablecloth.
The dishes featured glistening noodles topped with cucumbers, shredded carrots, peanuts, and a fragrant, dark meat sauce.
"This is zhajiangmian, a famous noodle dish from my hometown," Morin explained. As Pakunoda and Feitan watched in mild disbelief, he picked up a bowl, mixed the noodles thoroughly, and took a big bite.
The moment Morin demonstrated, Machi and Nobunaga couldn't hold back. Grabbing bowls, they quickly mixed and started eating.
"Wow, this is incredible!"
The moment the noodles touched their tongues, their eyes lit up with delight, and they started eating even faster.
The truck bed was soon filled with the rich aroma of food.
"You can conjure edible food?" Chrollo asked, observing the scene. Seeing how much the others were enjoying it, he picked up a bowl himself, inspecting the dish closely.
Its color, aroma, and presentation were impeccable. Despite his lack of experience with fine cuisine, Chrollo could tell this was of exceptional quality, even by outside-world standards.
