Chapter 6: Out of Control
"Yeah, who knows when that beast will lose its head," Blaise muttered.
Ignoring the murmurs from the Slytherins, I stepped forward.
"Just bow to it, Draco," Hagrid warned, like I was planning to do anything else.
Honestly, I was curious. Would things play out the same way? Would I still be attacked?
And really, I doubted Hagrid would let me die. Probably.
Though, knowing my luck, maybe he would.
After all, I had been the reason he had to give up his dragon. Well, even with my intervention, the thing would've been discovered eventually. But still.
Either way, there was only one way to find out.
I stepped closer, only to feel my body freeze.
What was this?
My mind screamed for action, but nothing happened.
Magic. Someone had cursed me.
I barely had time to think before my body lurched forward again, breaking free from the paralysis. But by then, the hippogriff had already decided its pride was hurt, and it was ready to teach me a lesson.
Before I could react, the creature lunged forward, its sharp talons aimed right at me. My instincts kicked in, and I immediately jumped to the side, narrowly avoiding its front legs.
"Malfoy!" I heard the shocked voices of the Slytherins around me.
"Draco!" someone else shouted.
But there was no time to worry about that now.
The beast was already back at me, preparing to strike again.
"Buckbeak, be good. Don't attack!" Hagrid's booming voice tried to calm the creature, but it was already in full attack mode, its eyes wild and furious.
It lunged again, but this time, I rolled beneath its front legs, dodging its deadly blow.
Without wasting a second, I drew a kunai from my sleeve, throwing it at the hippogriff's forearm with precise aim just enough to cause it pain, not death.
The creature staggered back, momentarily thrown off balance by the sudden shock. It let out an angry cry, thrashing uncontrollably.
But Hagrid, with surprising strength for someone his size, was already there, grabbing the beast and pulling it back before it could cause any more damage.
"That's enough, Buckbeak!" Hagrid yelled, his voice booming with authority, trying to calm the creature down.
I stood up slowly, breathing heavily, but unharmed. A little shaken, yes, but nothing worse. My eyes swept over the class some students were staring at me, others at the creature, and a few had already vanished, probably too scared to stick around.
Someone had just tried to kill me, and everyone present was a prime suspect.
But I couldn't assume they were the only ones involved. No, everyone in Hogwarts was on the list now.
Who knew if someone was hiding their true intentions, blending in with the crowd?
"Malfoy, you okay?" Blaise asked, his tone laced with concern as he came closer.
I didn't answer right away, eyeing the creature warily, but eventually, I nodded. "I'm fine."
"Why can't you ever just follow the rules?" Granger's voice broke into my thoughts, filled with disapproval and irritation.
I turned to her, my eyes narrowing as I met her angry stare. Her righteous indignation only fueled the anger that was already bubbling inside me.
"I don't need a lecture, Granger," I snapped, my words sharp, the anger from the encounter still burning in my chest.
I was the victim here, not her. What did she know about it? All she ever did was spout off about rules and following orders.
"Hermione's right. It was your fault, Malfoy, for angering it!" Now even Weasley was getting involved.
"You made everyone's life in danger," Potter added, his voice full of judgment.
I could feel his eyes boring into me, but I didn't care. He always played the hero, always jumping in to defend everyone else.
"You should've bowed to it, Malfoy," Weasley chimed in, looking all smug, like he knew what he was talking about. "Maybe then you wouldn't have pissed it off."
My anger flared, heat rising in my chest. They were the last people I needed advice from. They didn't have a clue.
The class was watching us, eyes darting from me to Potter, to Weasley, waiting for the explosion to happen. I didn't care. None of them understood what had really gone down.
The hippogriff was still agitated, pacing restlessly, but at least it wasn't charging again. Hagrid, however, looked ready to explode, his large hands gripping the creature's reins tightly.
"Everyone, step back!" Hagrid barked. "Let's all calm down, Malfoy, Harry, Ron cut it out, alright?"
"Malfoy, for your actions, I'll be cutting 30 points from Slytherin," he added, turning to me. His voice was thick with anger, and I could tell he wasn't happy.
I didn't argue and wasn't in the mood for it. This wasn't how I'd expected the day to go, but then again, nothing ever went according to plan.
