Chapter 2.2
Gathering my things, I left the counter.
“Thank you! Come again!” she called out cheerfully.
“Ah, g-goodbye!”
“Yeah…”
As I peeled the wrapper off my sausage and walked out of the convenience store, the words of the oddly named part-timer echoed in my head.
“She mentioned ‘other upperclassmen’… so she’s a freshman too?”
Being the only human among beastmen had left me feeling pretty isolated. For a brief moment, the thought of recognizing a familiar face before orientation was comforting—until I recalled her trembling hands and inexplicably flushed cheeks.
“Can rabbits get rabies?”
Please tell me we’re not in the same department…
After walking another hour, I finally returned to the dorm. Swiping my access card at Narae-dong’s entrance, I stepped inside, only to hear a group of female students in the first-floor lounge. The moment they spotted me, they didn’t even try to be subtle. Instead of polite whispers or a simple “Oh my,” they went straight to wide-eyed gasps of “Wow!”
“What? Have you seriously never seen a human before?”
My major? Visual Design.
Was it my choice? Not even close.
If I’d gone to another university, I would’ve picked something more practical and future-proof. But thanks to the prank-like way I ended up here, Visual Design was the only department that didn’t reject me outright. Now, I’m stuck studying something I’d never even considered.
“At least I went to a vocational high school and know how to use Photoshop and Illustrator. That’s something.”
Clinging to the small solace of my certifications, I entered the lecture hall. Immediately, my eyes met those of several beastmen who had arrived before me.
“Awkward.”
Avoiding their stares, I quickly walked to the back corner by the window and sat down, turning my gaze outside. I resolved to avoid eye contact for the rest of the class.
“Beastmen really come in so many forms.”
Furries and animals had similar appearances, but beastmen hybrids were uniquely distinct. Honestly, it was fascinating—if you ignored the fact that their various types of fur were now floating in the air. Was I sitting in a lecture hall or a pillow stuffed with cotton fluff?
“Just focus on graduating. That’s the goal.”
I closed my eyes, silently chanting my mantra.
The door creaked open. Another student entered.
I didn’t look up. Even as the sound of slippers shuffled closer, I kept my head down.
But then…
“Scrape.”
“Scrape?”
The unmistakable sound of a chair being dragged—right next to me.
Opening one eye, I turned my head, and immediately recognized a familiar sight: a disproportionately large chest, followed by round red eyes, white hair, and long, twitching rabbit ears.
“Oh… it’s the big-chested rabbit…!”
It was the part-timer from the convenience store. Why was she here? And why was she sitting next to me?!
“Wow…! W-we’re in the same department!”
“Y-yeah. But why are you sitting next to me?”
“You’re a familiar face… I couldn’t help it… hehe.”
“Hehe, my ass.”
Unable to hide her delight, Choi Eum-ah’s face turned red again as she whispered, “W-we’re classmates, so can I talk casually? I’m Choi Eum-ah.”
She didn’t even wait for my response before switching to casual speech. Still, if I reacted poorly, I’d probably just get labeled socially awkward.
“I saw your nametag yesterday. I’m Joo Ji-hyuk.”
“Joo Ji-hyuk… Joo Ji-hyuk… Joo Ji… hehe.”
She murmured my name with a strange look, then suddenly giggled to herself like she was in her own little world.
“And her name is supposed to be normal?”
It’s not like she had the most conventional name either. This felt like middle school all over again—getting teased at lunch—except now it was happening in a university lecture hall.
Anyway.
“I’ve been wondering since yesterday… why is your face always so red?”
I asked because her face was so red I thought she might be sick. Choi Eum-ah, clearly flustered, averted her gaze and mumbled in a small voice:
“W-well… actually… I-I’m, uh, in heat right now…”
“…I shouldn’t have asked.”
“N-no, it’s fine!”
“It’s not fine, you idiot!”
Suddenly, I was reminded of the time my dad brought home a rabbit from the market when I was a kid.
It was a nearly full-grown male rabbit, and it was in a constant state of arousal. It climbed onto everything in the house, rubbed itself against furniture, and even went after my mom’s leg. It was so annoying and pitiful that we eventually donated it to a petting zoo.
“So, she’s in that kind of state?”
Her words made me suddenly aware of her uneven breathing, which only made me more uncomfortable. Sitting next to someone like that felt like being stuck beside a ticking time bomb. Who could possibly understand this misery?
Moments later, the classroom—now packed with beastmen (and one human)—fell silent as the door swung open.
“Hello, everyone~!”
Flop-flop! Swish-swish!
A beastman with triangular ears twitching and a fluffy tail wagging energetically walked in, smiling brightly, tongue slightly out.
“I’m your teaching assistant, Kyeon Na-ri~ Feel free to just call me TA!”
Her tail wagged even harder as she introduced herself, her eyes sparkling with excitement. The other canine beastmen in the room wagged their tails just as enthusiastically.
The most excited ones couldn’t even hold back little whimpering sounds, like restless puppies.
“This isn’t a lecture hall—it’s a dog café.”
If they were actual dogs instead of beastmen, people would probably gush about how sociable and adorable they were.
“At least Choi Eum-ah isn’t a canine beastman.”
If she were, she’d probably be sitting next to me, wagging her tail and whining like the others.
“Whimper, whimper.”
“What the…?”
Startled by the sound coming from beside me, I turned my head—and froze.
Gone was the slightly disheveled look of the convenience store part-timer from last night. Instead, Choi Eum-ah was dressed like a typical freshman, her trendy outfit complete with a short skirt.
But that wasn’t the problem.
The problem was that she’d forgotten she was wearing said short skirt as she spread her legs and began rubbing herself against the edge of the chair.
“I-Is she…? No… She’s not… Is she?!”
I was too stunned to even look away.
“Mmnh… whimper, whimper…”
With her eyes closed, she rocked her hips back and forth, completely absorbed in her actions. Then, as if sensing my gaze, she slowly opened her eyes.
Her flushed cheeks practically glowed, and her red, round eyes locked with mine. I expected embarrassment, maybe even panic, but no—expecting shame from a beastman in this situation was apparently too much.
Instead, she gave me a sly smile, her lips parting slightly as she softly whispered:
“Hah…”
Her body shuddered, then went stiff.
I didn’t need to ask.
“Did she just… finish?”
Right there, in the middle of the lecture hall, rubbing herself on the chair, the girl sitting next to me had just…
I was so stunned I couldn’t even turn my head away. Meanwhile, Choi Eum-ah, now catching her breath, met my gaze again. Beads of sweat clung to her thighs, glistening under the classroom lights.
And then, as if nothing had happened, she flashed me a bright, innocent smile and let out one final playful sound:
“Whimper, whimper~!”
“What the actual hell did I just witness?!”
