Chapter 71: Chapter 71: The Romance of Men Is Just That Simple
"It's... a Reality Marble?!"
The magus present exclaimed in astonishment.
This was a phenomenon only they could understand, a miracle only they could comprehend.
"To change the scene of the castle instantaneously... undoubtedly, this is the Phantom that Erodes Reality. A Reality Marble."
Alice's eyes sparkled with excitement. She never thought she would witness a Reality Marble in her lifetime.
"Can that brute really achieve such a feat?"
Even Kayneth, who was attending the premiere in London, was equally shocked by Iskandar's Noble Phantasm.
His deeper understanding of magecraft allowed him to appreciate the significance of Reality Marbles even more.
"Indeed, I was quite startled the first time I saw this Noble Phantasm," Waver commented coolly, crossing his arms as he sat beside Kayneth.
"But the scenes shot for this sequence weren't actually filmed within the Reality Marble," Waver whispered to his teacher, sharing a secret known only to the crew members.
"They weren't?" Kayneth looked at Waver with surprise.
"No, directly incorporating the film crew and other actors into the Reality Marble would require too much prana," Waver shook his head. "Plus, the lighting inside the Marble is too intense and not suitable for filming."
Filming a movie isn't like shooting a vlog where the cameraman just enters the Marble, films, and it's done. Composition of the scene, lighting, camera movement, all these factors need to be considered before filming.
Even if they rushed, the crew still needed at least two to three hours to set up and shoot inside the Reality Marble.
So, Shinji decided to build the set outside while referencing the Reality Marble, allowing Iskandar to summon his soldiers from within the Marble during filming.
It seemed like summoning soldiers would require more prana, but when factoring in preparation time, the energy consumption was much less than entering the Marble.
The same situation occurred in the extended version of FSN during the battle between Archer and Caster. Because entering the Reality Marble was too cumbersome, Shinji had Archer project his Noble Phantasm into the real world before his demise.
Shinji's foresight was commendable; after all, it would be a waste to introduce UBW, a major selling point, in the Fate route. He could save it for when they eventually adapted UBW.
This was the first time Alice, a die-hard Fate fan, had seen Heroic Spirits using Reality Marbles. However, this didn't diminish her admiration for Emiya Shinji.
"To be able to summon Heroic Spirits capable of using Reality Marbles, he must have a much deeper understanding of them than us! He might even be the first magus in nearly a century to reproduce Reality Marbles!"
A Reality Marble is a projection of one's inner world, a magic that materializes the innermost desires and thoughts of a person.
As a subtype of "fantasy materialization," Reality Marbles are the closest to "true magic" and the magic that ordinary magus can most easily approach.
Because theoretically, as long as a person's inner world is strong enough, they can use a Reality Marble, meaning that anyone has the potential to succeed.
The disparity between theory and reality is as vast as the difference between Arturia Lily's and Emperor Nero's bust sizes.
Despite the Clock Tower listing Reality Marbles as one of the forbidden spells, if a legitimate mage were to successfully use one, they'd likely be revered by the entire Clock Tower.
If it wasn't a legitimate mage, Alice speculated that person would probably end up sliced and preserved in formaldehyde.
Alice feverishly scribbled in her notebook, "Sharing the burden of using a Reality Marble by combining multiple people's impressions of a scene is indeed a good method, but the conditions are too stringent. Only a charismatic ruler like Iskandar, the Conqueror King, could achieve it."
Finishing her notes, Alice sighed deeply.
"Ah, I wonder to what extent Sir Matou has researched Reality Marbles? I wonder if he could share some insights..."
In contrast to the admiration of magus for Iskandar's achievements, ordinary viewers couldn't care less about Reality Marbles.
In this scene of swirling yellow sand, they only focused on three things: the army, the army, and still more army.
As grand music played, the army that once conquered the Western world appeared once again before their eyes.
The overwhelming phalanx, the soldiers' synchronized movements, the grandeur of it all left people first dumbfounded, then mesmerized, finally fixated on Iskandar on the big screen, not wanting to look away for a moment.
This was a spectacle of armies never before seen in cinematic history, not the petty skirmishes of dozens of men seen in other ancient movies, but a real army.
"Now, this is war!"
A journalist murmured, "Compared to the battle scenes in Fate/Zero, the war scenes in previous movies were just child's play."
His words quickly garnered agreement from others. Another journalist chimed in, "What other movie can match the grandeur of such a massive scene?"
"Well, there's 'War and Peace'."
"That's modern warfare, what about ancient warfare? Any examples?"
No one answered. Perhaps there were some, but at that moment, the audience, like Assassin on the screen, was too dumbfounded to think straight.
The horns of war sounded.
"Kings—shall live more authentically than anyone else—making the masses admire!"
Iskandar spurred his horse in front of the troops, delivering his final rallying cry for the charge.
It was unnecessary because the Assassins had already lost their will to fight.
Yet, Iskandar's passionate speech stirred something within the audience, making them feel what it meant to be truly inspired.
"Gather the beliefs of all brave warriors, and the one who embarks on an expedition with those beliefs as their goal, is a king. Therefore—"
"A king is not aloof. For his aspirations are the desires of all his subjects!"
"Indeed! Indeed! Indeed!"
The resounding shouts of the soldiers soared through the sky.
No matter the enemy or obstacle, nothing seemed threatening in the presence of their king. Their high spirits traversed the land, cutting through oceans!
This rousing slogan had the power to move hearts. Many were trembling with excitement. If they weren't in the theater, they would surely be shouting along with those soldiers.
Such was the charm of a king!
At this moment, the sun in the sky illuminated the Macedonian army's formation. Under its rays, Iskandar wielded his sword forward.
"Crush them!"
Iskandar commanded without hesitation.
"AAAALaLaLaLaLaie————!!"
The horns of the charge sounded, and the massive army surged forward. Countless soldiers followed their king, unstoppable, bringing victory and glory with the enemies' blood!
This couldn't even be called a war, but rather a clean sweep.
Even stirring sesame seeds would garner more of a reaction than the current Assassins.
Wherever the army went, there were no traces of those white skull masks. Only a faint smell of blood and swirling dust remained in the air.
"This is the most inspiring movie in history!"
Seeing the Macedonian army charge, one viewer was so excited that he stood up from his seat in the theater, waving his hands.
"Sit down! You're blocking our view!"
The audience in the back immediately protested.
"Sorry, sorry."
Realizing his outburst, the viewer quickly sat back down.
But his excitement didn't diminish. Even when back in his seat, he hugged his companion tightly and shook him with force.
"This is the most awe-inspiring scene I've ever seen in any movie!"
"Absolutely, couldn't agree more!"
His companion nodded vigorously. He felt the primordial power within him ignite. When the Macedonian army crushed the Assassins, he felt his entire body boiling with excitement.
"Inspiring?"
In the same theater, Kawachi Ippei's face twisted with disgust upon hearing this assessment.
"This scene was completely unnecessary. It's just a crowd-pleasing, hollow spectacle." Kawachi muttered to himself, "This is just Shinji Matou's filmmaking style, making people feel nothing but disgust."
"Would you dare say that louder?"
"I'm not stupid."
Upon hearing his companion's taunt, Kawachi Ippei snorted coldly.
The entire theater, apart from the critics, was filled with fans who supported Shinji Matou.
Critiquing a movie in the audience was pointless and Kawachi Ippei doubted whether he, an old man, could safely leave the theater.
However, he didn't give up.
"They're just a bunch of sheep following the herd. Once I publish an article in my column pointing out the flaws in this movie, they'll wake up naturally."
That's what he said, but Kawachi Ippei's face was still flushed red. His brain, which was already not very active, kept sending waves of dizziness—classic signs of high blood pressure in the elderly.
"I'll step out for a moment."
Knowing that he might end up calling an ambulance if he stayed any longer, Kawachi Ippei decided to step outside for some fresh air to calm himself down.
Anyway, it wouldn't be a loss to miss a few minutes of this garbage movie.
Suppressing his anger, Kawachi Ippei unsteadily got up.
"Old man, if you're leaving, hurry up and go. You're blocking our view of the movie."
Perhaps because Kawachi Ippei was a bit clumsy, the annoyed audience he blocked reminded him impatiently.
"... "
Kawachi Ippei glared at him fiercely.
How could he, Kawachi Ippei, be treated like this for movies he usually critiques?!
If he were to leave midway through a movie he critiqued, the film crew would respectfully pause the screening and wait for his return.
But now, from the moment he stood up to leave, no one even looked back at him. Compared to the movie playing on the screen, what were film critics?!
As the old film critic reached the theater door, strange booing erupted throughout the audience.
Kawachi Ippei thought it was the audience changing their minds and beginning to denounce this garbage movie.
However, it wasn't. It was Gilgamesh's expression of interest in Arturia, which resonated with these old Fate fans.
Close to Kawachi Ippei, a couple sitting near the corridor were teasing the plot in a sarcastic tone.
"Haha, Gilgamesh has set his eyes on Arturia. Is this the origin of the sequel to FSN? It's really interesting."
The man clapped his hands with a smirk. "Indeed, it's like a toad craving swan meat."
The woman's voice immediately became sharp. "Who do you mean by a toad? Saber or Lord Gilgamesh?!"
"Cough cough, I didn't say anything."
The man wisely chose to remain silent.
"Idiot."
Kawachi Ippei muttered under his breath, then escaped from the theater before the couple could react.
