Chapter 108: Chapter 110: The Invincible Hercules Fell Again
Shinji's words were very contagious.
His heartfelt speech struck a chord with many, tapping into universal childhood sentiments.
Shinji's use of nostalgia was a powerful tool, resonating deeply with everyone's most cherished memories
Childhood debts are the hardest to settle.
Many childhood joys stem from past regrets, and Shinji used this emotional bond to connect with everyone present.
'Mato Shinji, you are indeed a terrifying man. Fortunately, he stands on Bandai's side.'
Udagawa Nao feels that many things about Shinji are really in line with Bandai.
Bandai has a large number of animation IPs from the last century.
They can completely learn from Shinji and rehash old ideas and produce nostalgic products.
'After the Fate series products are wrapped up, the product department should focus on creating new items from old animations. Shinji is right, toys made with last century's technology are indeed lacking.'
At this point, Shinji's speech had come to an end.
"Kazuo Tsuburaya-san, I want to say thank you again."
Shinji's voice was filled with gratitude. "When I could pick up a camera and capture the moment Ultraman appeared, I felt again all that the Giant of Light brought to me."
Tears glistened in Shinji's eyes.
"I will use this film to commemorate all the works that once brought me joy and moved me, and solemnly say 'goodbye' to them."
He paused, and the room fell silent.
Many reporters were stunned, not realizing Shinji's speech had ended.
Suddenly, applause erupted from the press area, growing louder as more joined in.
Soon, hundreds of reporters were clapping fervently, responding to Shinji's nostalgic speech about childhood.
Kazuo Tsuburaya also joined in the enthusiastic applause.
He couldn't help but think of his cousins, Tsuburaya Akira and Tsuburaya Masahiro, who had inherited a favorable position (as Kazuo believed), with excellent resources. If they had even half—no, even one-tenth of Shinji's business acumen, things wouldn't be in such a near-bankruptcy state.
'What a fool, dreaming of creating a new Ultraman that surpasses the old ones when you haven't even learned to walk!'
Comparing Shinji to his foolish cousins, Kazuo felt they were as dumb as the interrogating aliens from "Ultra Q" and as brainless as the biological weapon Zetton.
While Kazuo Tsuburaya lamented, Shinji was still reflecting on his speech.
Despite it being a sentimental marketing tactic, Shinji's feelings for Ultraman were genuine.
After all, it was a cherished childhood memory spanning two lifetimes and his hero since youth.
'It's a pity some things can never go back to the way they were.'
Shinji thought regretfully.
The boy who once waited eagerly for the new season of Ultraman in front of the TV was no longer there.
In the backstage area, Ophelia looked at Shinji, who was receiving thunderous applause, and couldn't help but join in.
"As expected of the boss, he truly is the best magus in this industry. With just a few words and simple tricks, he can stir everyone's emotions. Working under him is indeed something to boast about."
The Tsuburaya press conference ended on a nostalgic note.
Once it was over, Shinji immediately approached Kazuo Tsuburaya, urging him to contact former Ultraman series actors.
Anyone available should be invited, even if they just make a cameo.
"After all, it's rare to gather old actors like this for 'Ultra 8'. We must seize this opportunity."
"Understood, I'll handle it."
Kazuo Tsuburaya nodded and left with his team.
"Why delay contacting Johnny & Associates?" Kariya asked curiously as they walked into the lounge. "Aren't the actors from 'Tiga' part of your plan?"
Shinji shook his head slightly. "It's tricky dealing with them, so we'll handle it last."
Johnny & Associates was a tough nut to crack, with their stubborn and money-grubbing ways posing a challenge even for Shinji.
Given the popularity of their artists, their high asking prices were somewhat justified.
However, Johnny's always demanded far more than they deserved, making negotiations difficult.
Although "Ultra 8" had set box office records for Ultraman films in the original timeline, most profits went to Johnny & Associates, leaving Tsuburaya in the red.
Shinji wanted to avoid this outcome for his own "Ultra 8."
Shinji believed his "Ultra 8" wouldn't surpass his two Fate films but would certainly outperform the original.
He didn't want Johnny & Associates to unjustly profit from it.
"Hey, Shinji," Kariya suggested, "why not use magecraft if things get tough?"
Shinji rolled his eyes. "Uncle, are you an idiot? Even if I can deceive the Kitagawa siblings with hypnosis, can I fool Johnny's legal advisors too?"
Any modern company has multiple layers of scrutiny for decisions.
If any step gets blocked, the whole plan could fail.
Suggestive magecraft isn't foolproof; once someone notices that something is not right, they'll quickly snap out of it.
This is why Shinji never uses magecraft in business negotiations.
Using magecraft on one person means using it on everyone involved in the negotiation, including the contract reviewers.
Negotiations are lengthy processes, potentially lasting months, and Shinji couldn't spend all his time using magecraft.
Additionally, who knows if the other company has a magus who could see through his tricks?
If that happens, Shinji's business reputation would be ruined, and he wouldn't be able to operate in the industry again.
So, Shinji preferred the longer, more expensive route over using suggestive magecraft in negotiations.
However, this didn't mean Shinji wouldn't use magecraft at all.
For example, a troublesome TYO board member was giving Shinji a hard time, showing no intention of negotiating.
Shinji had to use magecraft to give him a suggestion—severe diarrhea whenever he got emotional.
This board member had to visit the restroom seventeen to eighteen times per meeting, almost getting dehydrated and eventually withdrawing from the negotiations due to health reasons.
TYO then replaced him with someone more reasonable.
As for the unfortunate board member, he had visited every proctology department in Tokyo without finding a solution.
"That guy really got it bad," Kariya commented.
Shinji grinned. "Yeah, he can't even enjoy a woman's company anymore. Might as well become a monk."
"Alright, enough joking." Shinji patted Kariya's shoulder. "We have some time before filming starts, and there's something I need you to handle."
"What is it?"
"You know about the overseas copyright dispute regarding the Showa Ultraman series, right?" Shinji asked.
Kariya sighed. "Of course, I knew about it back when I was filming 'Dyna.' Didn't the Japanese court rule against Tsuburaya?"
"Yes."
Shinji sneered.
The timing of Tsuburaya's lawsuit in Japan was unfortunate, coinciding with a series of scandals, including sexual harassment by the president and embezzlement on set.
The Japanese court, without thoroughly reviewing the case, ruled against Tsuburaya.
This is like a thief who steals on the subway accusing another person of stealing his things.
The judge will think it is a false accusation as soon as he sees that the defendant is a bad person.
Shinji continued, "We can't rely on Japan anymore. We'll need to take the case to Thailand. You'll have to represent Tsuburaya in court there."
"Wait a minute!" Kariya exclaimed. "If we lost in Japan, can we win in Thailand?"
"Of course, we can. I've asked Kayneth to contact local business families with ties to the magical world in Thailand. They'll support our case."
"But..."
Kariya was about to protest when Shinji firmly patted his shoulder.
Kariya was about to say something, but Shinji patted his shoulder hard.
"Uncle, you can chase women later. First, take care of this business for me."
"Get lost!"
Kariya showed his affection for his nephew by flipping him off.
In the following period, Shinji temporarily put the "Super 8" matters aside and focused entirely on promoting the mid-season broadcast of UBW.
On one hand, there were too many actors involved in "Super 8," and Tsuburaya needed time to confirm each one.
On the other hand, UBW's plot had reached its most exciting moment.
After Archer's betrayal, Shirou and Rin had no choice but to seek Illya's help to gain combat power, only to encounter Gilgamesh attacking the Einzbern Castle.
As a result, the invincible Heracles fell once again.
With no other options, Shirou and Rin had to ally with Lancer, and the two Master-less Masters and a Servant who wasn't theirs teamed up to take on the Church's Caster scenario.
A great battle was about to unfold.
Coincidentally, the broadcast date for this decisive battle between the protagonists and Caster's group was April 29th, a national holiday in Japan known as Greenery Day.
With the holiday boost, this episode's viewership directly broke UBW's first episode record of 40%, reaching 45.2%!
