Chapter 36: CHAPTER 36
Different Uchiha Perspectives
As Shisui left, Itachi stood still, gazing into the distant forests, a heavy sigh escaping his lips. His thoughts lingered on Shisui's eyes—those legendary Mangekyō Sharingan, capable of rewriting someone's will.
"If peace can truly be achieved between the clan and the village," Itachi mused, "then perhaps it wouldn't be wrong for Shisui to use his Kotoamatsukami on Father." However, he understood that the Uchiha's animosity towards Konoha's higher-ups was not rooted in any one individual, not even his father, Fugaku. It was the collective frustration of a clan marginalized and mistrusted for years. The systematic discrimination, like the forced relocation of the Uchiha to the outskirts of the village, had bred resentment. Even if his father's will was altered, others in the clan would eventually reignite hostility, driven by the desire to reclaim their former glory.
The obsession with controlling the Konoha Police Force and the dream of an Uchiha Hokage ran too deep. Itachi knew these ideals would not vanish easily. Shisui, though strong and intelligent, was too optimistic, clinging to the hope that reconciliation between the clan and the village could be achieved through dialogue. Itachi, having seen the darker side of human nature during missions and his time in Anbu, had no such illusions. He had resolved to protect peace in the shadows, no matter the cost.
Leaving the cliff behind, Itachi made his way toward the Root base, prepared to face Danzo Shimura. As he moved through the forest, he stopped abruptly. A strange ripple appeared on the trunk of a nearby tree, and a masked man emerged from the vortex, his tiger-striped mask concealing his face. The masked man stood atop the tree, silently observing Itachi as though appraising a masterpiece.
Itachi immediately tensed, recognizing the man as the same figure who had murdered his teammate during a mission to protect the Fire Daimyō. That incident had been the catalyst for Itachi awakening his Sharingan, and the memory still burned fresh in his mind. What unnerved him more was the Sharingan he glimpsed beneath the man's mask—proof that this stranger was a fellow Uchiha.
"Why?" Itachi wondered. "Why did he kill my comrade to force me to awaken my Sharingan? Why has he appeared now, near the village? Could he be planning an attack on Lord Third?"
He had so many questions, but before he could voice them, the masked man disappeared into another vortex, leaving Itachi with a growing unease.
Not far away, the masked man re-emerged from the vortex, watching Itachi's retreating figure. A voice suddenly broke the silence, and from the ground emerged a figure entwined with black and white, encased in two Venus flytrap-like leaves. It was Zetsu.
"Obito," Zetsu began, "did you come all the way to Konoha just for that Uchiha kid?"
Obito shook his head. "No, but I'll admit his rapid growth surprised me. He's only twelve, yet he could sense my presence. I didn't misjudge him when I spared him years ago."
Zetsu chuckled. "That's because you helped him awaken his Sharingan by killing his teammate. But now, it seems he's aligned himself with Shisui of the Body Flicker."
"Shisui…" Obito muttered, his voice betraying a mix of admiration and unease. Shisui's reputation as the wielder of the Mangekyō Sharingan was well-known, and his mastery of Kotoamatsukami made him a dangerous opponent. Obito had avoided direct confrontation with Shisui for years, unwilling to risk his plans.
Still, he smirked at the irony. Konoha's internal divisions were growing without his interference. "They don't need me to create chaos," he thought. "They're doing it themselves."
Turning to Zetsu, Obito declared, "We've seen enough. It's time to report back to Nagato. Attacking Konoha now would only unite the Uchiha and the village. Let them destroy themselves from within. Weakening Konoha is more important for our plans to gather the Tailed Beasts."
Zetsu quipped, "You're cold, Obito. Don't you have any feelings left for Konoha or the Uchiha?"
Obito's voice hardened. "Feelings? Don't mock me. It was Konoha and the Uchiha who made me this way. They took everything from me—Rin, my dream of peace. The world they cherish is a sham. I'll create a new one where Rin exists."
With one last glance at the village lights flickering in the distance, Obito disappeared into the vortex.
Meanwhile, Fugaku Uchiha left the Naka Shrine, walking alone through the quiet streets. The clan meeting had ended with a decision to proceed with their coup, though the exact timing remained undecided. It was their final, desperate gamble to reclaim what they believed was rightfully theirs. The Uchiha were tired of being ostracized, relegated to managing the Police Force while others enjoyed power and privilege.
Returning home, Fugaku found Mikoto waiting for him. Her soft smile and gentle demeanor offered him a rare moment of peace. Glancing toward Sasuke's room, Fugaku asked, "Where's Itachi?"
"He's on a mission," Mikoto replied, stroking Fugaku's arm.
Fugaku snorted. "A mission? More like running to Sarutobi or Danzo to report on the clan. Itachi may be my son, but his loyalty lies with the village, not with Uchiha."
Mikoto sighed. "The Uchiha are also part of the village. Itachi wants what's best for everyone, not just the clan."
Fugaku's expression softened slightly as he turned the conversation to Sasuke. "Has Sasuke gone to bed? He's shown promise, making friends with the Jinchūriki. He may not have Itachi's talent, but he's loyal to the clan."
"Yes, he's asleep," Mikoto replied. "But Fugaku, Naruto isn't just the Jinchūriki—he's Kushina and Minato's son."
Fugaku scoffed. "Does the village even acknowledge that? To them, he's just the Nine-Tails vessel."
Still, Fugaku's tone softened. "Encourage Sasuke to bring Naruto here more often. The Uchiha welcome him."
Mikoto's smile faltered. "Welcome him? Or use him?"
Fugaku's gaze turned steely. "Sarutobi has kept Naruto in the dark, using him as a pawn to maintain his grip on power. If I become Hokage, I'll at least tell him the truth—that he is Minato's son.
