Chapter 28: CHAPTER 28
Okada's group was touring the various areas inside, overwhelmed by the luxurious surroundings. The house was full of high-end items, clearly not belonging to someone with a normal job. However, the real shock came when they stepped outside and caught sight of the massive Humvee parked in the driveway, looking almost like a tank. The sight of it left everyone momentarily speechless, especially Hirano, who couldn't contain his excitement.
"Wow! That's humvee!!" Half shout as he don't want to make it much noise as they are still outside that time.
Now that's what I call a badass vehicle!" Nishinoya exclaimed, pointing at the Humvee as if it were a long-lost treasure. Hisashi chuckled, agreeing with him.
"Yeah, that thing could plow through anything... I bet it'd hold up better than most of the military vehicles we've seen in the movies," Hisashi added, his tone filled with a mixture of admiration and practicality.
But despite their initial excitement, the group couldn't afford to get distracted by the Humvee. The undead were still lurking nearby, so they quickly moved back inside.
They continued exploring, heading up to the second floor. Inside one of the rooms, they were met with a surprising sight—an impressive array of weapons, including several shotguns and other firearms. Hirano's eyes lit up as he approached the weapons with the eagerness of a child in a candy store.
"Look at these! This is a Barnett Wildcat C5 bow! It's a classic, used by Robin Hood's ancestors. With this thing, you could take down a bear!" Hirano said, his hands practically trembling with excitement as he took the bow from the locker. The boys crowded around, their interest piqued by the weapon.
Takashi, though a bit more reserved, glanced at the bow with a mixture of respect and curiosity. He had no experience with weapons, but he trusted Hirano's expertise. "Sounds pretty badass," Takashi muttered, giving a nod.
Hirano smiled at Takashi's acknowledgment before turning back to the weapons. "Yeah, this is the real deal. We need to make sure we're ready if we come across any more of those things."
Meanwhile, the girls had retreated to the bathroom to clean themselves up, completely uninterested in the boys' discovery. As the boys discussed the weapons, Okada, Nishinoya, and Hirano couldn't help but let their attention wander.
"You think they'll be done soon?" Nishinoya asked with a mischievous grin, elbowing Okada.
"Yeah, I bet they look good clean, huh?" Okada laughed, clearly distracted.
But Hisashi, ever the older and more mature one, shot them a look that immediately silenced them. "Focus. We don't have time to be thinking about that. We need to get these weapons ready."
Takashi, agreeing with Hisashi's more serious approach, nodded. "Right. It's really troublesome filling it one by one. Put your attention in this dude. I don't want to get beat up by girls"
The boys returned to the task at hand, loading the weapons under Hirano's guidance. As they did so, the conversation drifted back to their earlier thoughts about the Humvee.
"Too bad we don't have time to mess around with it," Hisashi said with a shrug. "That thing would be perfect for getting out of here."
"Yeah, but the undead are still out there," Nishinoya added, his excitement tempered by reality. "We need to be smart about our next move."
Despite their curiosity about the Humvee, the group knew they couldn't afford to waste any more time. They finished preparing the weapons and continued their search, knowing that their survival depended on staying focused and being ready for whatever came next.
After an hour approx---
The girls finished cleaning up and were now rejoining the group, looking noticeably refreshed. Meanwhile, the boys, covered in sweat and grime from fighting zombies, were eager for their turn to wash up. But as they looked around for clean clothes, their excitement dwindled.
"Guess there's… nothing for us to wear," Nishinoya muttered, staring into an empty closet with an air of defeat.
Takashi sighed, looking down at his own sweat-stained clothes. "There's no way we can go in front of the girls like this…"
They exchanged glances, their faces a mixture of disappointment and frustration. Giving up, they decided to stay as they were, grimy and disheartened.
Meanwhile, Saeko was rummaging through the fridge, hoping to find something edible. But apart from a few half-rotted vegetables, it was barren. She let out a sigh, closing the fridge door and glancing around at the group, who were similarly disheartened by the lack of options.
Before anyone could say anything, a loud knock echoed from the front door, snapping everyone to attention. Instantly on high alert, they moved into positions, hands either on weapons or held at the ready. Hisashi raised his hand halfway, signaling everyone to hold still.
Slowly, Hisashi moved toward the door, catching Takashi's eye along the way. Takashi nodded in understanding, gripping his weapon, prepared for anything. Hirano, pistol in hand, braced himself, ready to fire if needed. Hisashi glanced over at the others, confirming they were all set. A silent nod from each confirmed they were ready.
Taking a deep breath, Hisashi unlocked the door and cautiously pulled it open, revealing a shadowy figure standing in the doorway, drenched head-to-toe in a dark red liquid. Hirano's finger twitched on the trigger, mistaking the figure for a blood-soaked zombie, just as the figure took a step forward.
"Wait!" the figure called out in a familiar voice. Hirano quickly lowered his weapon, realizing it was Kazu, along with Naomi, Takuzo, and Yamada, all equally drenched in red.
"Hey, guys… it's us," Kazu said with an awkward smile, scratching the back of his head, clearly uncomfortable under everyone's shocked gazes.
"Kazu!" Okada exclaimed, his eyes wide. "What happened to you guys? Are you hurt?"
Kazu let out a nervous laugh, exchanging a glance with Naomi, who was half-smiling and half-glaring, clearly embarrassed. Marikawa-sensei moved closer, her face pale with concern. "Is that… blood? Did you all get hurt?"
Kazu waved his hands dismissively, shaking his head. "Ah, no, Sensei… it's not blood," he replied with an awkward chuckle. Naomi, barely holding back tears of frustration, muttered, "It's actually Niikaz's fault…"
"We had a bit of a… mishap in the convenience store," Kazu admitted, scratching his head even though it wasn't itchy.
"Oh, we're fine," Yamada added, sighing tiredly. "But let's just say things got a bit… messy, thanks to Niikaz."
As they stepped inside, Kazu and the others left a trail of sticky red liquid behind them, and the group could barely stifle their laughter at their ridiculous appearance. The girls looked at them with a mix of pity and amusement, while the boys just shook their heads.
"Alright, tell us what happened!" Hisashi prompted, leaning forward with curiosity.
Kazu took a deep breath, ready to recount their adventure. "It all started after we split up back on the bus…"
