Chapter 22 - The Chauffeur Delivered to the Door
In the following days, Jun Jiuxiao spent his time sunbathing, eating spicy snacks, and drinking iced cola.
From time to time, he used his divine sense to check on what Ji Lanqing was doing, and he found himself witnessing Ji Lanqing bathing several more times. He discovered that she truly had a fondness for bathing.
As for his previous declaration of not using his divine sense to spy on Ji Lanqing, Jun Jiuxiao had long forgotten about it. After all, he had already seen her three times; a few more times wouldn’t hurt.
Suddenly, a disciple outside requested an audience with him.
Jun Jiuxiao tidied his clothes, sat upright, composed his expression, and transformed into his usual persona of the virtuous and genteel Holy Son.
Only then did he lift the formation’s restriction to allow the disciple to enter. Jun Jiuxiao glanced at his attire, confirming that he was an inner disciple.
“Disciple Wang Jie of Xuanyou Peak, greets the Holy Son,” the visitor said, bowing respectfully in front of Jun Jiuxiao’s cave residence.
“Rise. What brings you to me? Is there something important?” Jun Jiuxiao’s tone was neither too distant nor too familiar, just right.
“This disciple was ordered by Deacon Yang from the Inner Sect Task Hall to deliver an invitation to the auction to the Holy Son.” Wang Jie respectfully offered the invitation with both hands.
Jun Jiuxiao took the invitation, which was from the Fu’an Chamber of Commerce, inviting him personally.
Fu’an Chamber of Commerce is one of the three major chambers of commerce on the Endless Continent. Unlike the other two, which rely on other powerful forces to survive, the Fu’an Chamber of Commerce possesses its own formidable combat strength, rumored to have an ancestor in the Immortal King Realm.
The Fu’an Chamber of Commerce thrives on integrity and forming good relations, with businesses spanning the entire Endless Continent. It could even be called the number one chamber of commerce.
In the Eastern Region of this Endless Continent, Xuantian Holy Land is the top dominion. Every time Fu’an Chamber holds an auction, they send invitations to disciples and elders with power and influence within Xuantian Holy Land.
Jun Jiuxiao always received an invitation, typically delivered directly by an elder. This time, they sent a disciple, likely due to the recent conflict between himself and the Grand Elder. These people seemed reluctant to get involved, so they sent an inner disciple instead.
Jun Jiuxiao quickly deduced all of this and asked Wang Jie in a deep voice, “Has anything interesting happened in the Eastern Region lately?”
Wang Jie didn’t speak immediately, thinking quickly in his mind the meaning behind Jun Jiuxiao’s words.
Suddenly, Wang Jie recalled something. He had heard that the Holy Son recently accepted a maidservant and, for her sake, had cut off the hand of an inner disciple and even confronted Elder Lin Mu of Qianyuan Peak. That maidservant’s surname was Ji.
Ji… Ji… Got it. Wang Jie gritted his teeth and decided to take a gamble.
“I recently heard that the Ji family has produced a Fire Spirit Physique, and they plan to host a grand banquet in ten days, inviting various clans and sects.”
“Oh, a Fire Spirit Physique from the Ji family?” Jun Jiuxiao murmured to himself.
Wang Jie exhaled a sigh of relief, having won his bet. As expected, the Holy Son was interested in matters concerning the Ji family.
Initially, no inner disciple was willing to take this task. As a mere inner disciple, no one wanted to get caught up in the power struggle between the Sect Master and the Grand Elder.
Only Wang Jie decided to take a gamble by delivering this invitation. If he could connect with the Holy Son, his future prospects would be limitless. Even if he faced difficulties from the Grand Elder’s faction, given the Holy Son’s nature of even protecting a mere maid, he would certainly protect him.
If he couldn’t establish a connection, the Grand Elder’s faction probably wouldn’t hold it against an inner disciple. If they were that petty, he would just accept his bad luck.
Wang Jie continued to provide Jun Jiuxiao with more details about the Ji family. “It’s said that the Fire Spirit Physique belongs to a young lady from a branch of the Ji family. Her elder brother also possesses an innate spiritual bone, making them both geniuses.”
“Heh, geniuses, are they?” Jun Jiuxiao’s words were dripping with sarcasm.
If digging out others’ bones and snatching others’ spiritual roots could make someone a genius, then who on the Endless Continent wouldn’t be a genius?
Wang Jie heard the sarcasm in Jun Jiuxiao’s tone and realized that he didn’t like these two people. He quickly changed his words, saying, “Compared to you, Holy Son, they cannot be considered geniuses.”
“It’s said that the brother and sister have attached themselves to the younger brother of the patriarch of the main branch of the Ji family and have already become his disciples, counting as his younger generation.”
In large families, whenever there were talented disciples from the branch families, someone from the main branch would bring them under their wing, considering them as part of their lineage to ensure the continued prosperity of the main branch.
Jun Jiuxiao didn’t want to hear more about the Ji family. It was all the same and of no consequence, so he waved Wang Jie off, who immediately fell silent.
Wang Jie was unsure of what had displeased the Holy Son. He thought he had gambled correctly, but now it seemed otherwise…
While Jun Jiuxiao wasn’t interested in the Ji family’s affairs, he found Wang Jie intriguing. This guy was perceptive, knew when to speak, and seemed eager to ally himself with Jun Jiuxiao.
When going out, he still needed someone to handle his carriage and beasts, and Wang Jie seemed suitable. Jun Jiuxiao said, “I’m looking for someone to handle the carriage and beasts. Would you be interested?”
It wouldn’t be fitting for him, as the Holy Son, to personally drive a carriage. Elder Pu’s official role was as a protector, which also wasn’t suitable, so he needed another person.
Jun Jiuxiao appreciated intelligent and discerning individuals, so he decided to give Wang Jie an opportunity.
Wang Jie was so excited that he knelt down and kowtowed heavily. “It is my honor to drive the carriage and handle the beasts for the Holy Son. From now on, my life belongs to you.”
Jun Jiuxiao was very pleased with Wang Jie. Considering his bone age was almost a hundred, yet his cultivation had only just reached the Nascent Soul stage, it wasn’t surprising since he came from Xuanyou Peak.
Xuantian Holy Land had nine main peaks and two miscellaneous peaks.
One of the miscellaneous peaks was Xuanzhu Peak, a place for core disciples to discuss the Dao, and the other was Xuanyou Peak.
The disciples sent to Xuanyou Peak were those with poor talent who couldn’t become disciples of the main peak elders.
Xuanyou Peak had few resources and no guidance. Not everyone could be a prodigy like Jun Jiuxiao, so naturally, their cultivation couldn’t advance much.
Jun Jiuxiao found a bunch of unwanted resources of his own, packed them into a storage bag, and handed it to Wang Jie, saying, “These are your resources. In three days, drive the carriage for me to the auction.”
“Find a cave residence on the periphery to stay. Do not enter without a summons.”
Jun Jiuxiao didn’t want the possibility of Ji Lanqing being seen by others if she happened to not be wearing clothes.
“As you command, Holy Son.” Wang Jie saw that Jun Jiuxiao didn’t want to say more, so he quickly took his leave.
Wang Jie went to the outskirts and selected a spot rich in spiritual energy for his cave dwelling. This time, he really struck it rich.
He then checked the resources Jun Jiuxiao had given him and swallowed a mouthful of saliva. It was too much. When had he ever been so wealthy? The Holy Son, with just a wave of his hand, had made him rich.
Wang Jie was more determined than ever to follow Jun Jiuxiao. He didn’t begin cultivating immediately but instead went to study beast-taming knowledge. Fulfilling his primary duty was the most important task for him at the moment.
After Wang Jie left, Jun Jiuxiao sent a message to Ji Lanqing: “Three days from now, accompany me to the auction.”
Jun Jiuxiao couldn’t always go to the entrance of Ji Lanqing’s cave to find her whenever he had something to say. It wasn’t very dignified, so he left Ji Lanqing with a sound transmission jade.
