Chapter 25: 25kirito(sao) with unlimited blade works(fate)
Chapter 1 draft:
Sao was an rpg without magic, everyone thought that, even kirito, but on the last day of the beta kirito decided to re-visit the town of beginings to complete one last quest before the beta ended. There was an abandoned building on the town of beguinings that had a ritualistic looking magic circle drawned on the floor, the area was found on day one by the beta testers, but given no quest triggered when they entered the abandoned building, it was chalked up to a curious estear egg more then anything, but kirito had just found a quest on floor 8(a/n: i may be mistaken cause it has been a wile since i last saw sao, but i remember floor 8 beeing the furthest the beta testers reached during the beta) that directed him to the abandoned house on the town of beguinings. Once kirito got there, he placed a hand on the magic circle and chanted as the quest indicated, even if he felt a bit silly doing it
"Let silver and steel be the essence.
Let stone and the archduke of contracts be the foundation.
Let rise a wall against the wind that shall fall.
Let the four cardinal gates close.
Let the three-forked road from the crown reaching unto the Kingdom rotate.
Let it be declared now; your flesh shall serve under me, and my fate shall be with your sword.

Answer, if you would submit to this will and this truth.
An oath shall be sworn here.
I shall attain all virtues of all of Heaven;
I shall have dominion over all evils of all of Hell.
I shall wield your chains.
From the Seventh Heaven, attended to by three great words of power,
come forth from the ring of restraint, protector of the holy balance!"
Once kirito was done chanting, an animation played out and the circle disapears wile simultaniasly, a notification window pops up stating that he completed the quest and unlocked the magic system
Kirito is surprised by the claims of the notification, but the new blue bar under his green hp bar was proof enought
He quickly open his menu, and find a new tab named "magecraft", but before he can click on it he is kicked out of the server as the beta for sao had ended
.
Kirito was not dumb, he diden't know if the quest was a one time thing that would allow for just a single player to ever obtain acess to magic or not, so he kept the existence of magic in sao to himself, and when the game's official launch came, he ran straight to the abandoned building to get acess to magic before anyone else

Kirito never noticed how weird it was that he decorated the entire chant when he used it the first time and still remembered it after so long
After completing the quest, he opened his menu and clicked on the magecraft tab
A small tutorial played out for opening the tab for the first time, and made kirito quite sure either the quest was repeatable for other players or another way to get acess to magic would apear on higher floors that would be useable to everyone. The reason for sayd belief beeing how much work was undoubtly put into programing this thing, giving magic to just a single player was just cutting the game in half for everyone else, no one would have thought this hard on the magic system if it was not going to be a main part of the game at some point
For starters, acording to the tutorial, everyone with magic had an elemental affinity (with air, earth, water and fire beeing the most common) and something called an "origin" that was pretty much a secondary affinity that actualy mattered even more then the first one, both your elemental affinity and origin were randomised when you unlocked the magic system, kirito got the rare element "sword" and the rare origin of "sword". He got confused at getting the same element and origin, but when he checked the spells list he noticed that some heavily specialized magics DID require your element and magic to be the same. Kirito was quite glad with his draws, as even if the spells he would be able to cast would be few and far between and heavily specialized, they would be VERY strong because of it, so even if he lost in versatility he made it up with raw power, and with both his elemental affinity and origin beeing classifyed as RARE, kirito was sure he would be a force to be reconed with
The spell list made kirito a bit confused, because while there were indeed spells in there, there were also several passive skills, active skills, moves, buffs, rituals... all of them fell under the same umbrella, most of the stuff listed was quite strong and kirito imagined that they were added to the magic system for the sake of balance, making them consume some manner of resource (in this case mana) so they woulden't make the game too easy, hp coulden't be used because they would contradict with the self healing spells.
Wile cheking the spell list, he found a lot of stuff that, wile in theory, he could cast in the future, woulden't be castable for a very long time, as since his elemental affinity and origin diden't match with them, not only were their effectiveness severely reduced, but their mana prices were also jacked sky high! Even the basic spell "grand"(a/n: i so need to watch fate again, i probably butchered this quite hard, but it is ment to be the simple curse that rin uses that causes a cold), that gave a very minor slowness debuff to a weak oponent for a couple seconds was beyond his capability at the moment, but then kirito found a spell that required both elemental affinity and origin to be "sword" to be castable. The spell in question was called "unlimited blade works", it was classifyed as a "noble phantasm" class spell and behaved similar to a skill that had several subskills under it, it started at level 1 and as it was used, it grew stronger and unlocked more subskills. Even if "unlimited blade works" was classifyed as a "noble phantasm" class (noble phantasm beeing the highest class for spells), kirito could actualy use some of its subskills even at level 1, even if briefly
The casting system was a bit convoluted, with some spells requirering verbal chants, some requirering mental comands, and some requirering gestures on top of one of the other 2, but kirito diden't found it that weird, what he DID find weird is when he tryed to cast "structural grasp"(a spell that was used to tell what material an item was made of) on his starting sword, the information on the sword's material (iron) diden't apear to him in a pop up message as he expected, instead the knowlage was directly put into his mind, alongside the crafting requirements to smith one, it's stats, and it's drop chance. In the end kirito brushed off the weirdness of the nerve gear beein able to directly give him this knowlage as that spared him the time it took to read it's stats from a pop up
(A/n: i was thinking on wheter or not make kirito be able to still use fate's magecraft and unlimited blade works irl after he wakes up from sao, and i am leaning heavily on "yes", he will probably think he is halucinating when he sees suguha's practice sword and the passive structural grasp(he will have it leveled that far by then, yes) activates and he sees the sword's history, lol)
