Chapter 282: Chapter 2. Please Just Don't Approach Me at Dusk
[Arc5] - 2. Please Just Don't Approach Me at Dusk
---
Cyd merely wanted to touch the lives of ordinary people, doing things within his reach.
However, he became too powerful. What seemed like small tasks to him turned into monumental feats that others couldn't accomplish. In his eyes, he only played the hero a few times.
He always acted simply because he could, doing things just because he was able, saving others just because he wished to.
That was all...
But such results stemmed from his immense power. He was still himself, only now able to do more. Yet, in this world full of strong people, his presence became mundane, even dangerous.
Even so, he was still able to help with certain things. He would assist an elderly farmer who could no longer till the land, easily walking a few laps with the plow. He'd scare off bandits by simply punching the ground, creating a massive crack that made them flee in terror. And then Cyd would dutifully fill the crack back up.
Surely, he wasn't the only one in this world who would do such things. This way, it wouldn't turn into the same situation as before. Yet even thinking this, those he helped still sang his praises.
Stories passed down often made the individual seem far greater than they truly were.
However, the king of one of the largest kingdoms in the world, the Kingdom of Liones, personally sought him out, inviting him to become the Great Holy Knight of Liones.
The king's sincere and serious expression suggested he wasn't joking. In fact, with Hermes' blessing, making jokes toward Cyd was nearly impossible.
Cyd felt a bit troubled. He thought the invitation would start with an offer to join their ranks, not an immediate proposal to become the Great Holy Knight. If he remembered correctly, the position was second only to the king, a rank with immense power—enough to easily stage a rebellion and have a high chance of success.
To hand such a threatening role to someone they had just met... only a fool would do that. Unless this person already knew him well.
Cyd narrowed his eyes. There were no legends about him in this world, yet the King of Liones seemed to understand his personality completely. Either it was due to the king's unique magic or... someone in the king's lineage had once encountered the Olympian gods.
This must be fate~
"Great Holy Knight, huh? That must be a highly respected and trusted position," Cyd said as he sat atop his [Reforged Pandora], quietly gazing at the sky. There weren't many clouds, and the sunlight made his condition terrifyingly good.
"Isn't there something more ordinary? It's not wise to casually hand over such an important role to someone. Honestly, I'm a rather carefree person. Power, wealth—none of it really interests me. Even if you gave me nothing, what I need to do wouldn't change."
The position of Great Holy Knight was far too troublesome, and the expressions of the knights standing behind the king were clearly full of resistance. After all, who would welcome someone suddenly placed over them? Yet, because their king hadn't finished speaking, they had no choice but to endure.
If he accepted the role, he'd likely become an isolated leader, and workplace conflicts might arise.
Cyd tried to make his tone as peaceful as possible, adopting a calm, unworldly expression.
"Then would you be willing to become the second Great Holy Knight of our kingdom? No powers or responsibilities, merely a place to reside. Only if the kingdom faces an existential crisis would we hope you answer the people's call."
Cyd raised an eyebrow. The king wasn't lying. He truly intended to treat him as a guest. But this king was a wise ruler, and if the kingdom were to collapse, it would likely be due to the tyranny of those in power. The king's only request wasn't for Cyd to protect the throne, but to heed the people's wishes and rebuild the kingdom.
What a foolish man. As a king, such ideas were incredibly naïve. But such rulers were often hailed as wise kings by their people, followed by many loyal and righteous subjects.
"Your Majesty, isn't this too casual!" A young man with a strong build stepped forward, his hardened and prematurely mature features making him look as sturdy as iron.
This type of person was usually very rigid.
Cyd tilted his head, scrutinizing the man who had spoken up. Judging by his vast and solid magical power, he was undoubtedly a Holy Knight, his magic honed as if through countless trials. A man of substance.
"Your Majesty, this man is an unknown entity to the kingdom. How could he possibly be fit for the role of Great Holy Knight?"
"Well..." Bartra's eyes wandered slightly. He hadn't given this much thought before rushing to find Cyd, especially since the goddess had practically ordered him, her eyes conveying an unspoken curse if he didn't act quickly.
"Sir Dreyfus, how do you suggest I invite him?"
Even the steadfast Dreyfus couldn't help but twitch at the corner of his mouth. His opposition had clearly been against making this white-haired stranger the Great Holy Knight, but the king had instead shifted the burden of the decision onto him.
"Sigh... This man should at least possess strength comparable to my brother, Great Holy Knight, Zaratras."
Ah, things were getting troublesome.
Cyd rubbed his temples in frustration. To be honest, aside from his battle with Kronos, he had never truly fought at full strength. And Kronos, the former king of the gods, was a rather extreme benchmark. In the Greek era, the only one who could fight him at full strength was Heracles. Now, in this world where his blessings were fully activated, if he didn't control his power, he might turn into a walking disaster.
The blessings that only activated under certain conditions were manageable, but the blessings of the sun and the moon, being reflections of Apollo and Artemis, were constantly active, causing trouble for Cyd's enemies—and for Cyd, who had to be careful not to overuse his strength.
Facing the imposing Holy Knight Dreyfus, Cyd could only pray inwardly.
Please, just don't approach me at dusk.
