Chapter 318: The Gardener and the Plants, Students Planted by Xue Jing into the Ground (4K)
The black off-road vehicle bearing a military license plate slowly approached the entrance of Xuanwu Mansion.
A middle-aged man dressed in security attire quickly stepped out from the guardhouse at the gate.
As the window rolled down, the security guard looked into the driver's cabin with a puzzled expression and inquired, "What can I do for you two?"
Just as Ning Yuantai was about to speak and reveal Xue Jing's identity as an examiner from No. 9 Examination Hall, a shout came from inside the gates of Xuanwu Mansion, "Uncle Zhang!"
A short-haired young man, handsome but with a somewhat sly expression that made him appear a bit shady, quickly ran over. With a suave leap over the gate, he approached the off-road vehicle.
The young man peered inside the vehicle, his gaze passing directly over the driver, Ning Yuantai, and resting on Xue Jing seated beside him.
Upon seeing Xue Jing, his eyes lit up, and he promptly turned to explain to the middle-aged security guard, "Uncle, this is our examination hall's examiner; please open the gate."
The security guard hesitated momentarily before responding, "Oh, okay."
He turned back to the guardhouse, and soon after, the barrier at the mansion gate slowly opened.
Xue Jing looked at the young man standing outside the car window and smilingly asked, "Are you a student?" Explore more adventures at My Virtual Library Empire
The young man grinned back, "Hello, Mr. Xue! My name is He Han."
Xue Jing's expression paused slightly as he suddenly noticed the shirt worn by the young man named He Han.
It was a white T-shirt with a 'pain shirt'...simply put, a shirt printed with a fictional character he liked.
Xue Jing also had experience with ACG works but could not recognize the white-haired character printed on the shirt.
Noticing Xue Jing's gaze, He Han tugged at his shirt and explained, "This is my wife, Sakurakoji Luna."
The unabashed and matter-of-fact attitude made Xue Jing's lips twitch slightly, "...Classmate, get in the car, let's talk."
He Han cheerfully agreed, "Okay!"
He then opened the rear passenger door, got into the vehicle, and curiously touched the high-quality seat material.
The vehicle slowly moved forward, driving into the mansion.
"Classmate, where are you from?" Xue Jing casually asked.
Seated in the back, He Han replied, "I'm a local from Silver City, Mr. Xue, but let's not talk about that right now, I have something important to tell you..."
He leaned between the two front seats, making cheeky gestures at Xue Jing, "Did you know, inside this mansion, there are a few students who really resent having you as our examiner and are planning to embarrass you badly to force a change!"
"You need to be careful!"
Ning Yuantai listened, his expression oddly amused as he shook his head disdainfully.
Xue Jing's expression remained unchanged, bearing a smirk as he watched He Han, "Tattling?"
With determination in his eyes as if he was affirming his faith, He Han declared, "This is but speaking for justice!"
Xue Jing shook his head and responded, "I'll pretend I didn't hear that, and you should pretend you never said anything, understand?"
He Han's eyes shifted slightly, then he grinned, "Okay, teacher."
Xue Jing hummed in acknowledgment and asked, "How many students have arrived at the mansion so far?"
According to the information given to him, the No. 9 Examination Hall that Xue Jing was responsible for comprised thirty-one students.
But the data only included their names, genders, photos, and candidate numbers, nothing else, so Xue Jing had almost no understanding of this group of students.
He would lead the team and needed to gather more intelligence on his students.
He Han thought for a moment and said, "From those I've seen, probably about twenty-five, including me, that makes twenty-six."
Xue Jing pinched his chin, "Huh… training officially starts tomorrow, and there are still quite a few who haven't arrived yet?"
He took out his phone, swiped a few times on the screen, opened the student information page, and handed it to He Han, "Take a look, see who hasn't arrived yet."
He Han reached out excitedly, perhaps thrilled by the chance to see 'secret information' he shouldn't have, and as he flipped through the phone, he remarked, "This one, Zhong Wei, I haven't seen her."
"Yuan Baijing…"
"Zhao Longtu... yi, how is this person here!?"
Suddenly, He Han exclaimed in shock upon seeing an unexpected name in the data.
Xue Jing glanced sideways at him, "What's the issue with him?"
He Han scratched his head, "It's a big problem, Mr. Xue."
He handed the phone back to Xue Jing and pointed at a student's photo in the information.
It was a fiercely-looking male student; unlike others who had smiling faces, his expression was not only devoid of any smile but also carried a voracious ferocity.
To the left of his eye was a prominent scar, which appeared to have been caused by being struck by some blunt object.
If it wasn't included in the student data, one might mistake it for a prison inmate's photo.
"Zhao Longtu, he was at the same school as me in middle school…"
"Although that incident happened many years ago and not many remember it now, I remember it every time I see him."
He Han spoke quietly, "He killed his class teacher."
"Hm?" Curious about such significant gossip, even Ning Yuantai turned around to look at He Han attentively.
"What happened exactly?"
Xue Jing did not speak but also looked towards He Han.
He Han shook his head, "The specifics are quite varied; the whole school was in turmoil back then. There were at least a hundred different versions of Zhao Longtu's motive for killing the teacher, all very chaotic."
"Some say the teacher frequently abused and punished him, some say Zhao Longtu is a born psychopath with Superiority Complex, and others say the teacher forced Zhao Longtu into underage underground boxing to make money."
