I Was Sold to My Mortal Enemy (Double Transmigrations)

Chapter 23 - I

As soon as Pei Xing led the workers into the yard at noon, he noticed a few more large barrels than usual. He knew Shi Yi must have made them. Not finding Shi Yi in the yard, he turned and entered the kitchen.

Inside the kitchen Hong Lou and Xiao Liu surrounded Shi Yi, he didn’t know what cause them like this. Even from the kitchen door, he could clearly hear the sound of slobbering.

“Third brother, can I have another one?” Shi Liu coquettishly asked, licking the candy stains from his lips.

Little Hong Lou held a bunch of strawberries skewered on bamboo sticks in one hand, coated with a layer of sugar, and a half-filled bowl in the other, containing colorful balls and crushed ice.

Shi Yi listened to Xiao Liu’s coquettish plea and, hugging him, said, “My dear, save some for tomorrow. Eating too much at once could give you a stomachache. Ask sister Hong Lou to get you some hot rice.”

Seeing the abundance of fruits at home, he had prepared some gummy candies after making juice. After that, he mixed crushed ice and fudge to create a fudge fruit salad. The sugar’s sweetness was not too high, but it was delicious after being prepared.

Upon witnessing this scene, Pei Xing’s eyes grew soft, and a faint smile appeared on his lips. He walked over, hugged Shi Yi, and gently kissed his forehead.

“Whatever you’ve made, let me try it too.”

Shi Yi didn’t have time to show him the dish. He told Hong Luo, “Kid, don’t eat too much ice. Take him to eat something.”

Hong Luo stared at him for a moment with her big eyes, then placed the half-filled bowl on the stove and led Xiao Liu out.

As soon as they disappeared, Pei Xing pressed his head and kissed him, not letting go until they both ran out of breath.

Shi Yi’s legs became weak, and he scolded Pei Xing playfully.

Pei Xing leaned against the stove, held Shi Yi’s waist with one hand, and with the other, took a small ball from the bowl and put it in his mouth. When he bit into it, there was still juice inside, with the sweetness of strawberries and the taste of peaches, just like their earlier kiss.

Feeling victorious and in a good mood, Pei Xing gazed at the blushing person in his arms and couldn’t resist leaning in to kiss him again. “Baby, did you save some food for me?”

“Leave and eat your own shit!”

Shi Yi angrily scolded him and tried to push him away, but Pei Xing didn’t budge.

Pei Xing laughed and held Shi Yi’s delicate wrists, keeping him close. It was like scratching an itch for any push from Shi Yi; no harm would come from it, just an outlet for his emotions.

“Don’t forget about me; when you’re with Xiao Liu.”

“My dear baby brother is so cute; how could I resist loving him?” Shi Yi still thought he was being unreasonable.

Pei Xing retorted, “I don’t like it,” Pei Xing sighed and locked eyes with him. “You haven’t initiated a kiss with me yet.”

Shi Yi lowered his gaze, ears turning red, and whispered, “Is there something wrong with you? Do you still want to eat?”

Pei Xing smiled gently and replied, “I do.”

.

Shi Yi brought him the braised noodles that had been prepared in advance and placed a bowl of mutton soup beside him. He had already eaten, and now he was delighted to see Pei Xing savoring the food. He hadn’t made the marinade too spicy, worried that the workers wouldn’t be used to it.

“Is it delicious?” Shi Yi asked, looking at Pei Xing with hopeful eyes, fearing he might say otherwise.

“The marinade is fragrant and delicious,” Pei Xing praised without hesitation. He was not exaggerating. In his previous life, before he traveled through time, Shi Yi had excellent cooking skills. If he opened a noodle shop, it could have become a unique feature.

Shi Yi immediately asked, “What do you think about me setting up a stall selling braised noodles?”

Pei Xing coughed, took a sip of soup to clear his throat, and pondered for a moment. “It’s not impossible, but you’d have to pay for the stall. We live in a village, and farmers are usually quite frugal. Selling in the county town might be a better option, but you’d still need to cover travel costs. The ingredients for this soup aren’t cheap either. Setting the right price can be challenging; too high, and people won’t buy it, too low, and it won’t be profitable.”

“You’re right,” Shi Yi said, feeling a bit dejected. He couldn’t help but think about his previous life when he could support himself, and now, in this time travel, he felt helpless and relied entirely on Pei Xing’s support.

“What’s wrong, my dear?” Pei Xing was concerned and didn’t want Shi Yi to face any hardships. Over the past three years, he had accumulated enough wealth for them to lead a comfortable life.

Seeing Shi Yi’s disappointment, Pei Xing realized that selling braised noodles was just an idea, and it wouldn’t hurt to give it a try. He put down his bowl, held Shi Yi’s hand, and suggested, “Why don’t we try it together? It might work out well.”

“I thought too simplistically. Forget it,” Shi Yi said with a sigh, feeling disheartened.

“Are you short on money? I have some savings,” Pei Xing offered. He was about to fetch the money when Shi Yi stopped him.

“I haven’t spent the money you gave me last time. I don’t need anything, and there’s nothing to buy at home. I’m just too idle and want to do something,” Shi Yi explained. Pei Xing had been providing him with a small allowance every week, and now Shi Yi had saved quite a bit of money.

There wasn’t much to spend on in their village. Every few days, Pei Xing would go to the county to buy snacks, sometimes taking Shi Yi with him. In addition to daily reading sessions with Hong Luo, he and Xiao Liu helped Aunt Hong with cooking.

During the rest of the time, Shi Yi had nothing to do, and he realized how idle he was after Pei Xing became busy with farming these past few days.
