I Was Reincarnated as a Villainous Noble But I’ll Be Executed as a Traitor if I Do Good Deeds Chapter 7
7: Phillis Aquarias’s Curiosity
As a magician, I am the strongest. At least, in fire, water, wind, earth, and lightning.
Born as a Pentagiga (Five Elemental), I’ve dedicated my long life as an elf to researching magic. I’ve created new magic, refined existing ones, and mastered the operation of magical power.
As a result of devoting most of my long life to magic, I’ve become a magician unmatched by others. I have confidence in my abilities. However, there is one magic I haven’t mastered – light, darkness, and non-attribute magic.
As an elf, a race of strong magicians, I should know all magic. But even I, an elf, cannot grasp the remaining three attributes – light, darkness, and non-attribute. The fact that these magics can only be wielded by humans is frustrating. It’s a harsh reality that I cannot master all magic.
However, an opportunity to learn about this magic has arrived. The trigger was James Brighton Black’s request.
“My son Rex has awakened to dark magic. So, won’t you teach me magic?”
The relationship between elves and humans isn’t always good. Elves think they’re superior as magic users. They’re more likely to awaken to multiple attributes, and all their people can use magic. Humans, on the other hand, think they’re chosen beings because they can handle light, dark, and neutral attributes.
Either way, the existence of the Mireal Church is a factor. The doctrine states that magic is a gift from the goddess Mireal. Or perhaps, it’s just a natural instinct for beings to think they’re superior.
In any case, elves have never had the opportunity to touch light, dark, or neutral magic. The Black family disregards such customs. They’re considered an evil family, lacking the ability to adapt to their surroundings.
But I don’t care about the reasons. The fact that I can touch dark magic is all that matters. I want to master magic, to know everything about it. That’s all.
“…Of course. If that’s the truth, I’ll do my best.”
That was my genuine intention. As the client’s son, Rex, if he’s really awakened to dark magic, I’ll stake everything on it. It’s not something to think about.
“…What a great opportunity. To learn about dark magic, the best chance. As an elf and a magic user, I can’t escape.”
For an elf who can’t use dark magic, like me, this is a rare opportunity to touch dark magic. I absolutely can’t let it slip away.
“…I want to know more. In the five attributes, there’s no human who surpasses me. Yet, there’s still so much unknown. It’s amazing.”
It’s both my true intention and a boast. I’m frustrated that I can’t master all magic on my own. But the joy of discovering the unknown is real. I’ve immersed myself in magic because every time I touch it, I discover something new. Without a doubt, getting involved with dark magic will bring new discoveries.
“…Rex, can you meet my expectations?”
With great expectations, I met Rex. His magic was something I’d never seen before. Dark attire (Gratinee Wear). Defense using dark magic. It’s a simple idea, but it creates a defense that can completely block all magic, at least five attributes.
Dark magic can invade other objects, which means its effect will be lost. Even my masterpiece magic, Five-Day Sword (Chain Blade), can be blocked. I realized I couldn’t contain my excitement. It felt like my head was about to burst.
The time I spent teaching Rex magic. Or rather, most of it was spent watching his magic. It passed by too quickly. After our scheduled meeting ended, and I parted ways with Rex, I couldn’t hide my lingering regrets.
“…A genius. Such talent can’t be expressed in words. If Rex were an elf, I wouldn’t even come close to his level.”
I can help him grow such incredible talent. It’s a wonderful joy. But a greater emotion is emerging, as if I’m about to see an unprecedented landscape.
“…Amazing. Dark magic has surpassed my imagination. I wish I had known about it sooner.”
Those were truly heartfelt words. I understood the property of magic invasion from literature. But seeing it in person gave me a completely different sensation. The saying “hearing something a hundred times is not as good as seeing it once” is true, and I knew it from my research. But it wasn’t enough. I had to understand it.
Anyway, I want to see more of Rex’s dark magic. That’s all I have right now.
“…A question. Can half-elves learn dark magic? If so, it’s worth considering.”
A sudden question arose. The fact that half-elves are born is historically true. However, their numbers are few. Humans and elves are too different, and it’s a tragic tale that’s been passed down in various forms.
There’s a famous story about an ideal village where elves and humans lived together, but eventually, it became an elven-only village. Humans can’t tolerate the fact that young elves stay by their side forever. Elves prioritize elves over humans, who die in an instant. It’s a natural conflict, and such a tale is often told.
Maybe it’s an excuse to not give elves light, dark, or neutral magic. If hybrids are born, elves who can use those magics might emerge.
Another possibility is that they’re treated as hypothetical enemies. In the Leprechaun Kingdom, humans are on the rise. In the Sagittarius Holy Kingdom, elves are dominant. In other countries, humans and elves don’t coexist equally. That’s why.
The reason doesn’t matter. What’s important to me is to know more about magic.
“…My task. I’ll grow Rex with all my might. Starting from there.”
No matter what, if Rex grows, I’ll be able to learn more about dark magic. For that, I’ll give him all my knowledge. Maybe he’ll become a great enemy for elves. But that doesn’t matter to me. I’m only interested in the scenery he’ll show me.
“…Curiosity. If I have a child with Rex, they might become the strongest magic user.”
I have immense magical power. I have the talent to handle five attributes. I’m the strongest among elves. If I combine that with Rex’s incredible talent, what kind of ability will be born?
A dark attribute user with immense magical power and a long lifespan. If such a being is born, magic will enter a new realm. Even after Rex dies, I’ll be able to continue seeing dark magic. It seems like a great method.
“…Expectation. I want to see a half-elf who can use dark magic.”
To achieve that, I need to win Rex’s trust first. I’ll start by teaching him with enthusiasm. There’s a sense of excitement building up.
If I combine with Rex, my ideal being might be born. I want to experiment with it not just once, but multiple times. Then, being by Rex’s side for a long time will become crucial.
Rex, I want you to show me your amazing magic. In return, I’ll pay any price.
