I Was Reincarnated as a Villainous Noble But I’ll Be Executed as a Traitor if I Do Good Deeds Chapter 45
45 A Slight Hesitation
After Lana came, it’s been a while. The school has started to take shape, and people are gathering. We’re providing support for their daily lives and focusing on their studies. The plan was created by Jean, so my thoughts are being conveyed. I can be at ease about that.
It’s good that my father has agreed to provide living expenses. Honestly, I thought he would just gather people and treat them roughly.
For now, Lana is playing the role of a teacher. She’s not that strong, but her teaching methods are highly praised. Even though she’s from the Water Attribute (Monodeka), she’s respected. She’s doing well in the Leprechaun Kingdom, where magic is weak.
“I didn’t expect the school to start moving so quickly. I have to thank Jean for his efforts.”
So, I’ve been checking on the school’s progress from time to time. Lana is the same age as me, and she’s prepared to be a proper teacher. However, I don’t trust people who are connected to the Black family. Selecting the right personnel is a challenge.
“The basics of magic are to feel the magical power and move your body like your limbs. Please follow me.”
When I observe the lessons, a girl with long, red hair waves at me. Her name is Julia. She’s very fond of me and always reacts when she sees my face.
After that, the lessons on magical power control have been progressing. For now, there are fewer people who have awakened to their magical powers. Maybe magic is more difficult than I thought.
I’ve confirmed the situation, so I’ll return home. I can transfer anywhere, so no one is surprised when I suddenly appear.
After that, I was thinking calmly in my room.
“Hmm. When Lana became a teacher, I was surprised. But it seems to be going well.”
Maybe she just wanted to confirm that I wouldn’t do anything strange. She said she would monitor me, after all. But whatever the reason, as long as things are going well, that’s fine.
And I have a lot to think about.
“Julia’s red hair and eyes. Her name is similar to the protagonist of the original story. Is there a connection?”
The Indigo family is the hometown of the protagonist, Julio. When I think about it, it’s hard to believe it’s a coincidence. However, I don’t know anyone with the name Julia.
“Is it a brother-sister relationship? But if I ask her if she knows Julio, I won’t be able to come up with an excuse.”
Even if she is his sister, I wouldn’t know why she knows him. It’s beyond the level of interest a commoner would have.
“It’s frustrating, but there’s nothing I can do. Rushing things won’t lead to a good outcome.”
As I was lost in thought, I was called out to. It was Jan’s voice. When I invited him into the room, he looked at me with expectant eyes, filled with anticipation.
“Brother, how about the kids I gathered? Are they doing well?”
“Not bad, are they? Some of them might even be able to send students to Astral Academy.”
In reality, I think he’s done a better job than I could have. But I’m still unsure if it’s okay to show my weaknesses to him, and I’m still unable to judge.
It’s crucial to make him think I’m an exceptional person, since he respects me for reasons that aren’t entirely clear.
“Then, that’s great. I want to be of use to you, brother.”
“That being said, don’t overdo it. Each person has their limits, after all.”
I want to gauge Jan’s heart through his reaction to these words. If possible, I’d like him to become a trustworthy ally. It’s difficult, but…
“I understand. So, you’ll use me, brother?”
“That’s right. How you use people is important.”
“Of course. I’ll do my best to meet your expectations.”
From Jan’s perspective, I get the feeling that he believes in me. He’s someone who looks up to me, so I’m inclined to think well of him. However, I can’t reveal my true thoughts. It’s not that Jan has a problem, but rather, it’s something that can’t be said to anyone. At least, not while my father is still alive.
Jan left, and some time passed. Lana, who had finished her classes, came towards me. She comes to see me almost every day. Is it because she’s a hostage, or is it because she’s a hostage that she does so?
“Lana, how are the students doing? Are they of any use to me?”
“There’s no problem. They listen to what I say and are growing.”
“Good, then. Take good care of them. I’m going to make them my pawns.”
“Then, would you like Rex-sama to take on a teaching role as well? That way, we can make them more grateful.”
I was slightly surprised by her words. She had a strong sense of justice, but she was talking about making them grateful?
“Weren’t you supposed to be monitoring me? Have you switched to a policy of being useful to me?”
“Rex-sama is, at the very least, giving the students a stable life. If they don’t feel grateful, that’s a problem.”
Ah, Lana’s sense of justice is indeed directed towards the students’ misdeeds. She dislikes those who don’t show gratitude, and that’s exactly what I imagined.
Or is she still monitoring me? Are the students doing something strange? Either way is fine. As long as she takes on a teaching role properly.
I think it would be nice to get along with her. But it seems like she’s disliked me from the start, so it’s difficult.
“I see. So, are there any students that catch your attention?”
“I’m hesitant to recommend someone from my territory, but Julia-san is noteworthy.”
Here again, Julia’s name comes up. I wonder if there’s really something going on. But it’s dangerous to have preconceived notions. If I think of her as an important person, it might not be good.
“Are there any other students that catch your attention?”
“Not for now. I’ll keep an eye on them from now on.”
Well, if their talents become apparent in a day or two, it won’t be a hassle. It’s not a mistake to take things one step at a time.
“That’s good. I’ll also confirm it, but it’s easier to find talented people when there are multiple individuals.”
“Please don’t lose your kindness, Rex-sama.”
“I know. I’ll do things my way.”
I replied, and Lana bowed and left. If I’m being honest, I want to agree with Lana’s words. But I can’t make careless statements, not knowing who’s watching or what their intentions are. It’s sad, but that’s the way it is.
“Julia is also being watched by Lana. Maybe she really does have a connection to the original protagonist.”
What do I want to do? If Julia is connected to the protagonist, what then? My thoughts are still unclear. Should I hurry or be cautious? Even that’s unclear.
It’s a difficult problem. How should I treat the protagonist? If they become an ally, that’s convenient. But how far will it go?
“For now, I don’t know anything. For now, I’ll treat them as someone who’s kind to me. That should be fine.”
I don’t want to be enemies, no matter what Julia’s true identity is. Since they’re kind to me, I want to treasure that. I intend to kill my enemies, but I don’t want to kill unnecessarily. That’s my true intention.
“I’ll treasure those who are kind to me. That shouldn’t be wrong. I’ll move forward like this.”
