14: As Family

I had promised to teach Mary magic, so I was planning it out in my head. When I was learning, I relied on my knowledge from the original story and did it by feel, but when teaching someone else, I wanted to do it properly.

“For now, I’ve decided to teach Mary magic. If possible, I’d like Filis’s help too. After all, she’s the top magician.”

So, I decided to consult with Filis again. I didn’t intend to do nothing myself, but with her help, it would be completely different.

“Filis, are you interested in my sister? Do you want to help me teach her magic?”

“…No. But if Rex is teaching, I’ll give some advice.”

I got rejected. Well, Filis was only interested in dark magic, so it couldn’t be helped. If Mary were to awaken to darkness, that would be a different story. But thinking about it in the context of the original story, it was unlikely.

“Oh, that’s fine. What kind of advice do you plan to give?”

“…Simple. Magic control. Rex is doing it by feel, but there are tricks to it.”

In reality, because I had experienced something I never had in my past life, I was able to sense it easily. If there was even a slight sense of discomfort, that was magic. So, Mary might not be able to control magic right away.

With Filis’s advice, the lesson plan was solidified. So, I headed to Mary’s place.

In ‘Destiny Blood’, Mary had three attributes – water, earth, and wind. And there were no recorded cases of attributes increasing later on in the original story. However, it wasn’t impossible. I remembered hearing rumors that in the era of myths, attributes could increase.

So, I wanted to explore ways to increase Mary’s attributes. As her cute brother, I wanted her dreams to come true. At the same time, if I could increase her attributes, I could gain favorability points.

Sometimes, my own shallowness disgusted me, but to survive, I couldn’t choose my methods. At least, not for embarrassing reasons. I wouldn’t take extreme measures that would harm others, but…

Anyway, first, I needed to make Mary aware of her magic. I had to solve the problem right in front of me.

This was also Philis’ advice. I could control my magical power right away, but individual differences exist. When it doesn’t work out, focusing on the flow of blood can accelerate growth. There’s a hypothesis that the flow of blood and magical power are different only in terms of the organs involved.

Anyway, the reason doesn’t matter. The issue is whether Mary can actually manipulate her magical power. And judging by her face, it seems to be going well.

Mary had a bright face, full of hope. I also want to support Mary’s dream. Although our time together has been short, I’ve come to think of her as an important little sister. Perhaps it’s because she’s been relying on me.

Anyway, let’s put aside talk of the future for now and focus on making her able to use magic.

“Then, let’s try using magic lightly. Can you tell the difference between the magical powers of each color?”

“Yeah. The cool one is water, the rough one is earth, and the fluffy one is wind!”

That’s about right. The image is consistent. The sensation on that side is something that I, a dark magic user, can’t understand. Philis said that individual differences exist, so even with the same attribute, the sensation might be different.

“Then, let’s gather one of them. How about we start with water?”

“Got it….Yeah, I gathered it, Brother!”

It’s hard to imagine that gathering only one attribute’s magical power is difficult, but it might be a sign of Mary’s talent.

“Then, let’s ask the magical power to become water.”

“Become water, become water~. Whoa, it’s cold!”

The magical power on Mary’s palm was transforming into water. Mary’s amazed face looked like that of a child. It’s hard to believe she’s only one year younger than me.

“This is the basics of water magic. From now on, it’s just a matter of manipulating water.”

“Yeah, I can manipulate water! Is it the same for the others?”

“That’s right. If you do it the same way, you should be able to use magic in the same way.”

After that, we practiced magic with earth and wind, and Mary was able to use them as well. This is just the first step. Eventually, I want her to be able to handle multiple attributes at the same time. But rushing it might lead to failure, so I’ll take it slow and steady, following Philis’ advice.

“Now you can use all three attributes. Congratulations.”

“Thank you, Brother. It’s all thanks to you!”

Mary had a beaming smile, which made me happy as well. She’s definitely someone I want to get along with. Just like with Camila, I don’t want a future where we have to fight each other as family. Mary looks up to me, so I want to avoid that even more.

“It’s all thanks to Mary’s hard work. Someday, she’ll become a five-attribute user, and that’ll be great. Keep it up.”

“Yeah! When that time comes, I’ll help you with things that your dark magic can’t do, Brother!”

The way Mary thinks about helping me right away shows that she’s a good kid at heart. It’s a shame that she’s stuck in the Black family’s twisted environment. But if I rush things, Mary’s own life might be in danger. So, I’ll take it one step at a time.

Someday, I want to create a family that’s loved by the people. But that’s still a distant future. I’ll do my best to make it happen, though. I want Camila and Mary to not become enemies of the world. I want us to be able to get along as family, and to be able to laugh together even in the far-off future.

I want Mary’s smile to never fade. I made a renewed vow, hoping for that.
