I was reincarnated as a villain in -High school DxD - DxD

Chapter 2: Chapter 2: The Game of Fate

Azekiel emerges from the cavern after hours of exploration, leaving behind the remains of his enemies and the fear that paralyzed him upon awakening. Outside the cave, the world unfolds with a gloomy sky dotted with stars, which seem closer than he remembers. It is a vast landscape, filled with twisted forests and dark mountains that scream danger at every corner. With each step, his mind never stops working: I am in High School DxD, but as a villain. How soon will the events I know happen? What role do I play in this story?

Encountering the Renegade Society

The first place he finds is a camp hidden in the forest, a refuge for renegade and outcast demons. The demons here do not belong to any house nor do they have the favor of the high clans of the underworld. In this chaotic place, Azekiel is greeted with suspicion, especially when they notice the dark energy emanating from his body.

A silver-haired female demon, who introduces herself as Lyara, the camp leader, confronts him directly.

"That mark on your aura… you belong to the Balthezar bloodline. I thought they were dead. Why do you appear now, when all who dared to follow your name were hunted down like dogs?"

Azekiel, aware that revealing the whole truth would put him in danger, pretends to be someone with partial amnesia. He says he woke up in the cave with no clear memories of how he got there, though he retains basic knowledge of his abilities and bloodline. Lyara doesn't entirely believe him, but allows him to stay in exchange for proving his usefulness.

During his stay, Azekiel observes the internal dynamics of the camp. The renegade demons are a mix of traitors, mercenaries, and fallen, united only by their resentment toward the noble houses of the underworld. Though he despises their disorganization, he sees an opportunity: if he can gain their loyalty, he could use them as a first step toward building his own power.

The arrival of a familiar enemy.

One night, the camp is attacked by a group of demons sent by the Phenex house. Azekiel recognizes this event: it is a prelude to one of the first missions of Issei Hyoudou and his allies. According to his memories, these lesser demons would be easily defeated by Rias Gremory's group, but now he is in the middle of the conflict.

At first, Azekiel is hesitant to get involved. He could stay out of the way, but the battle quickly escalates, threatening to destroy the camp. Eventually, he decides to act, both to protect his position among the renegades and to test the limits of his Sacred Gear.

During combat, he uses shadows to trap enemies and disintegrate them, but he also experiments with a more strategic power: he uses shadows to manipulate the terrain, blocking paths and separating attackers. His intervention is brutal and effective, making him the hero of the night.

However, his victory does not go unnoticed. From the shadows, a crow watches the battle. This crow is a spy for Azazel, the leader of the fallen angels, who begins to take an interest in Azekiel upon detecting the forbidden energy of Umbra Tenebris.

A Moral Dilemma

After the fight, Lyara confronts him again.

"You are much more than you say you are. That power you have is not something that any ordinary demon can control. What do you really want?"

Azekiel falls silent. His main goal was to survive, but Lyara's words force him to confront a deeper question: what will he do with this second chance? Will he follow the path of the villain, as seems destined, or will he try to divert the narrative towards something more heroic, risking unpredictable consequences?

Before he can answer, he senses an overwhelming presence approaching the camp. The energy is unmistakable: an emissary of the Gremory house is about to arrive. Could it be Issei and his group?.
