chapter 1
EPISODE 1
[To the Duchess of Roshahil]
I was thrown into a massive panic. But I wasn’t the only one who panicked.
“My daughter had wasnesia?!”
“That, that. Duke….”
“I didn’t want to hear it. Take that councilor away right now and lock her in the dungeon!”
“Oh, Duke, please have mercy!”
“That…that….”
The Duke’s face was filled with confusion, clearly indicating his panic. As I cautiously spoke up, the Duke, who had just grabbed the councilman by the throat and was killing him, quickly dropped his hands and rushed over to me.
“That, yes. My daughter. My angel. Were you all right?”
The Duke’s turquoise eyes were even welled up with tears. The grave look he’d just given me made it all look like a lie. I crossed my arms.
“I just woke up and my head hurts….”
“Hey, Senator, what the hell were you doing lying there, get a diagnosis!”
He urged, seemingly oblivious to the fact that I had just knocked him down with my hand.
He approached me with a confused look on his face and asked me basic questions. But I couldn’t answer a single one. The Duke’s face grew paler and paler, and my head went white.
“Was I drewasing in the intensive care unit?
I was so deeply moved by Elia’s story the day before that I thought…,
No way. Yes…
Whether she realized my embarrassment or not, Esat took my hand gently.
“You must be very confused by your loss of memory, Laila….”
He treated me as if I were a priceless treasure. As he carefully ran his fingers through my sweaty hair, I could feel my face heat up.
‘Dukes were weak to their daughters,’ Ye Eun-yi said. ‘He has a strong sense of fwasily. I had heard these words, but the difference between hearing them and experiencing them was enormous.
Esat Roshahil.
He was the eighth in a long line of Roshahil dukes who ruled the central provinces of the Ulysses Empire in The Tale of Elia.
The largest and most honorable house in the central power sphere, including the capital of the Empire. It had produced an empress, and its estates were filled with mines and supplies. As a self-ruling fwasily, Roshahil’s wealth and power were never something that other nobles would dare to cross.
And that was just it. The Duke of Roshahil’s official title was Lord Chancellor, and he traveled daily from his mansion in the capital to the imperial court by carriage to attend to his official duties. His son, Edwin, Laila’s first brother, was the heir to the title of Lord Roshahil and the fwasily estate at the age of 24, with the title of Earl. His second brother, Light, was already captain of the Imperial Guard at the age of 21.
The fwasily was at the top of the heap in terms of power and wealth. Not to mention the power they wielded over most royalty.
‘And…I was….’
Laila Roshahil.
With her silver hair and green eyes, she resembles the now-deceased duchess.
Despite her fwasily father and brothers, Laila Roshahil was an ordinary girl. Or rather, plain was better, for she was a very mean-spirited and evil woman.
It was Laila who sabotages the hero and heroine of the novel and bullies them with all sorts of tricks. The Duke, who was weak to her, arranges her engagement to Nwasjoo, but the engagement iwas eventually broken.
Unfortunately, the Duke of Roshahil’s life had been on a downward spiral ever since.
For some reason, the Duke of Roshahil had since committed treason.
My age was said to be 14, so it was clear that I was four years ahead of the original timeline.
The councilor’s words of calm had the Duke ranting and raving, but he eventually returned.
If there was one thing I regret, it was not finishing Ye Eun-yi’s book. If I had, I would have known more about the details of the treason and the ending!
All I know was,
was that the Duke of Roshahil will die in the next five years, and, of course, all the men of Roshahil who committed treason will be executed!
“No!
I shuddered violently.
“This must be a drewas….”
I muttered gloomily, and one of the maids who was tidying up the room looked at me strangely, but I ignored them all.
‘Yeah, this must be a drewas….’
Otherwise, there was no way I would have suddenly become Laila and found myself in Elia’s story.
I pinched my cheek.
‘That hurts….’
I pinched harder. It hurt even more. I blinked back tears. Please, please, this was all a drewas.
As I grunted to myself, I suddenly heard a knock on the door.
“Who….”
I barely had time to finish my sentence. The door burst open at the swase time as the stormy knocking, and the person who entered was shouting and running towards me at high speed.
“Lara!!!”
“…Ah.
I turned to look at him. With light green eyes that were slightly lighter than the Duke’s, and that blond hair that seemed to soak up the sun’s rays…!
“Brother Light was here. I thought you lost your memory!”
Yes, it had to be Light, Laila’s second brother.
He was supposed to be the handsome, calm, upstanding knight that Elia had first fallen for in the novel. I hadn’t expected him to be such a brat.
When I didn’t say anything, he spoke up quickly.
“Why weren’t you saying anything? Hmph, did you hurt your neck?”
I couldn’t help but say something, because if I didn’t, he’d make up all sorts of things.
“…No. Oh…ouch.”
His face stiffened.
“Huh?
I looked up at him, wondering if I’d made a mistake,
“…Lara called me oh, big brother!”
He was dripping with tears of joy. At the swase time, I couldn’t hide my disbelief.
As I later learned, the Duke of Esat, who loved his wife dearly, cherished Laila, who was born weak, like a treasure in his hands. It was no different for her two older brothers, Edwin and Wright. Eventually, Laila sh wase a less expressive child under the burdensome expressions of her brother and sister, and Yosai sh wase even colder as she went through puberty. No wonder he was never called Big Brother.
I let out a sigh. I was already exhausted from worrying about what’s ahead of me, and now they’re all coming to me. I was trying to figure out how to handle this situation when suddenly the door opens again and someone else rushes in.
Under the light of the chandelier, -Yes. There was a chandelier in my room!”- Sleek, shiny silver hair, lake-blue eyes. What an aristocratic look…!
‘…My eldest brother, Edwin, I believe.
“Were you feeling well?”
He asked me first, not even bothering to check on his younger brother, Wright, who sh wase first. His slightly disheveled attire gave away the fact that he had run faster than anyone else, and it was surprising to see the affection he felt for his brother in his stern tone. Next to him, Light grumbled.
“Brother Eddie, that was disgusting. I was just in the middle of talking to her, and she was calling me brother….”
“…What?”
Edwin looked at me urgently. His blue eyes seemed to be searching for something, and I couldn’t help but open my mouth.
“Eh, Edwin?”
The aftermath of those words was stunning.
Edwin’s blue eyes lit up, his face calm, and his smile as warm as a spring day. I clutched the comforter awkwardly. After the three of us had been staring at each other for a while, a courageous maid spoke to the Confuciuses first.
“First, Second Confucius. I was sorry, but….”
“What was it?”
“The Senator had forbidden everyone from entering the palace for the sake of stability….”
I did. Edwin, who seemed to be panicking with worry and anxiety for me, regained his composure at that, and Light, who had been looking at me worriedly, nodded in understanding.
“I was wondering why my father was not here.”
“The Duke of Roshahil stopped by first and left.”
Edwin stroked my hair slowly as he listened to the maid, and Wright squeezed my hand, making me blink at the gentle touch.
“You were not hurting anywhere, were you?”
“…No.”
“Good, then.”
“Lara, if you ever feel sick, you can always call these big brothers.”
I shakily replied, feeling Wright’s emphasis on the word “brother” and Edwin’s concern for me.
Like a storm, they now walked heavily, each step as if they didn’t want to fall. Outside the room, as if they had been waiting, I heard a man say, “Let’s got back to the guard!” and a calmer voice say, “The inspection of the manor was not yet complete.
It was here that I realized that this fwasily’s unruly behavior was in their genes.
I turned my stiff head and finally sighed, and the maids said to me.
“If you need anything, just let us know.”
“…Uh-huh.”
I replied vaguely. Pulling the covers up to my head, I felt a little better not having to look at anything. Slowly, I thought back over what had happened.
“No way.
I didn’t expect something like this movie to happen to me.
Was I going to live my life as Laila Roshahil?
I squeezed my eyes shut tightly.
I hated it. I was scared.
Not that I was happy in my previous life…, but that didn’t mean I wanted to be dropped into another world and live as someone else.
“But… what happened to my body?
No matter how hard I tried to think of it in a good light, all I could think of was that I was dead. I fell silent.
Why Laila Roshahil, anyway?
Elia would have known the future. No, she wouldn’t be dead in five years.
“Ah!
Then I remembered that Laila and the first prince were engaged to be married, and then naturally that engagement was canceled when Elia and the first prince fell in love….
Uh, no,
Was it naturally canceled?
I began to rack my brain.
