I was Kicked Out of the Hunter’s Guild

Chapter 1 - Prologue

That day was unlike any other.

Ordinary citizens led mundane, uneventful lives.

Whereas, high-ranking people busied themselves in their own important ways.

It was a day that promised to pass just as uneventfully as all the others.

But they came.

For the first time, they made their appearance.

Through the surreal scenes that suddenly appeared on phone screens, countless people witnessed their arrival for the first time.

Some saw it on TV, others through their computers, and even during meetings projected on office screens.

It was that.

A being resembling a colossal eyeball.

At that very moment, simultaneously across the world, it made a declaration:

[I address you, those who call yourselves humanity. We are the Abyss.]

[We are eternal beings who will reign over you pitiful, lowly humans.]

[From this moment forward, you will live as slaves to our Abyss, and death will be the fate of those who dare resist.]

They had declared war upon the world.

Most people, however, dismissed it as an elaborate prank. A bizarre joke concocted by someone with far too much free time.

But then came the words that changed everything:

[As a demonstration, I will give you a chance to submit.]

[Let us begin with the most populous nation on this planet, The People’s Republic of China.]

[As proof of your surrender, within 24 hours, hoist a white flag atop Tokyo Tower in the neighboring island nation.]

[If this is not done, Beijing, your capital city, will face the judgment of destruction.]

[Keep this in mind and do not make foolish choices.]

The demand was outrageous. Asking China to surrender by flying a white flag atop Tokyo Tower in Japan, its historical rival.

It was an absurdly grandiose request, practically arranged to ensure failure.

As a result, the Abyss’ so-called declaration of war became a laughingstock.

Even China, the main target of the demand, dismissed the message entirely, attributing it to a hacker’s tasteless prank. They devoted their efforts to tracking down the prankster rather than addressing the content of the video itself.

But, Horrifyingly,

The Abyss’ declaration was no joke.

Exactly 24 hours later, their assault on humanity began. It started in the heart of Beijing.

Millions of monstrous entities, shrouded in pitch-black substances, erupted from beneath Tiananmen Square.

In less than an hour, the Chinese leadership, including the President, was wiped out.

In a single day, Beijing became a city of death. Within a week, 70% of China’s population had been annihilated.

This catastrophic event left the leaders of nations like the United States and Russia reeling. None had foreseen such an apocalyptic scenario.

In the face of this unprecedented crisis, governments worldwide quickly mobilized their forces. Under the pretense of protecting humanity, militaries joined forces to combat the Abyss.

Thus began a brutal and unending war between humanity and the Abyss.

From mechanized infantry and advanced unmanned bombers to nuclear missiles once deemed taboo, humanity unleashed its full arsenal of technology and firepower.

For a time, humanity managed to halt the Abyss’ relentless advance, eventually establishing a global blockade.

Yet even with this success, the Abyss’ influence persisted.

The former territory of the People’s Republic of China was now a wasteland under the Abyss’ complete control, serving as their stronghold in the heart of Asia. From there, they continued their relentless attempts to expand outward.

To make matters worse, as if adapting to human weapons, the Abyss’ forces grew stronger and more resilient with each passing battle. It became clear that conventional means were no longer enough. Humanity needed a new kind of weapon, something beyond ordinary human capabilities.

This led to the birth of the Superhuman Mass Production Project.

Initially, the project focused on male soldiers, who made up the bulk of the military. However, due to unforeseen technical limitations, the program’s scope was eventually narrowed to women. The result of the project was given a single name:

Hunters.

In the heart of the battlefield, these female warriors, enhanced beyond human limits, became the vanguard against the Abyss. They wielded weapons capable of bringing death to the Abyss and turning the tide of battle.

With the establishment of hunter-centered organizations, or “Hunter Guilds,” humanity was finally able to fight back in earnest.

The hunters’ efforts repelled the Abyss’ advances in multiple locations, turning the tide of war to such an extent that humanity began entertaining the possibility of a counterattack.

In the process, hunters became symbols of hope, admired by the public as heroes and idols.

Goddesses of the battlefield. Celebrities of war.

Their courage and immense popularity inspired countless women to aspire to become hunters themselves. Consequently, the number and scale of hunter guilds grew exponentially.

And amidst this chaos…

I, an ordinary graduate from a military academy in South Korea, was assigned to one of these Hunter Guilds.

Thanks to a series of terrible circumstances, I ended up as the adjutant of a guild that couldn’t have been more dysfunctional.

And so began my daily life –

A never-ending nightmare.
