chapter 10
10 – 10. Every Time I Eat Candy
.. Did I cross the line? No, did I cross the line with Jack?
It seems like wiping foam off a man’s mouth is always a green light.
“Haah… haah…”
Because my hands and chest were shivering uncoNT*Rollably, I felt like I would spill the coffee on the floor in this situation if I drank it.
I put my trembling hand on the table like I’m turning on the engine and took a breath.
Trying to calm down the rising excitement with the trembling.
“Don’t eat with foam on your mouth, it’s untidy.”
Jack, who just wiped away the foam from my mouth so attentively, casually threw a single word.
.. Wow, no, really, wow, he’s crazy.
It seems blunt, but it’s such a kind word.
As soon as I heard those words, the trembling that had been coNT*Rolling my body was now turning into an intense heat.
From my head to my heart, torso, and limbs. The raging body burned uncoNT*Rollably and shook here and there.
It’s just a simple word without much emotion, but why am I acting like this.
“Uh… yeah…”
Even the words I barely managed to squeeze out from my throat were not properly formed, with the pronunciation gradually becoming muddled.
CoNT*Rary to my determination not to be easily swayed last time.
I quickly realized that my heart was leaning towards him in real time.
“This shouldn’t be happening..”
Each of his small gestures was pouring fuel on the already blazing fire in my heart.
The flushed face, the sidelong glances he must think I don’t see but I can see.
And my hands trembling sweetly, and my irregular breathing, just like him.
It is possible for a relationship to progress from almost being enemies to being good relationships.
However, I did not have the mindset, or more accurately, the capability to do such a thing.
How can I interfere when my body is currently not normal?
If Jack were to do something pretty, I would end up with cardiac arrest and a short life.
“But, it is really dangerous.”
He unintentionally stirs people’s emotions with his actions or words. Does he know?
No, it’s not that he unintentionally does it, he must know and act accordingly!
Perhaps all of this is a long build-up just to excite me.
“Phew..”
I held onto my pounding head and regulated my breathing.
As I looked at the overgrown trees, my trembling heart calmed down once again.
Alright, I’ll admit it. The previous attack was quite impressive, even in the eyes of a love expert like me.
It was enough to slightly tarnish my solid ‘Jack Orlante seduction’ plan.
“Perhaps an ordinary person would have let it go at this point..”
Someone with my cold judgment and quick wit wouldn’t let it slide like this.
Even predicting such a scheme falls short of messing with me in reverse.
Look, I am only slightly shaken by such an attack, already calmly sipping my coffee..
“Cough! Kek!”
Ah, it was so unexpected.
***
“This is so awkward, it’s driving me crazy.”
We have been walking in silence through the city since the cappuccino foam incident earlier.
We each need to go our separate ways, but it’s awkward to be the first one to speak up, so we mindlessly continue walking towards the academy dormitory.
I hope Lucia will say something, but as expected, she stubbornly keeps her mouth shut, which is also a problem if it’s a problem.
Without realizing it, we have arrived at the eNT*Rance of the dormitory. Unable to stay like this any longer, I subtly look at her, and speak.
“Well then, I’ll be going now. Please take care.”
With a simple bow, I try to escape the moment.
“…Wait.”
Lucia grabs my sleeve, stopping me from leaving.
“Let’s have coffee next time.. No, just eat this.”
And then, as if she was about to say something, she soon closed her mouth and instead shoved a lemon candy into my mouth.
The only problem was that she pushed the candy in too deeply, and it shot straight down my throat.
“Kuh…!”
Naturally, my breath momentarily stopped, and a subtle pain struck my throat.
This wicked woman, trying to assassinate someone with candy of all things.
I might have been too kind to her this time.
“Are you… okay? I’m sorry…”
…Of course, I know it wasn’t intentional.
But, um. If I don’t blame her in this way, I feel strangely unsettled.
Some insane thought that this guy isn’t all that bad.
Since the incident last night, I’ve been trying not to dwell on it, but it keeps coming back to haunt me.
“I’m… fine. No problem.”
Why is she patting my back? It’s not like I’m choking, and there’s no effect on a candy stuck in my throat.
“Ugh… I’m really sorry…”
As she tried to take the candy I was biting into out of my mouth.
My breathing must have been slightly off, and she seemed to be trying to help.
“You can’t do that.”
Without even realizing it, I held the candy tightly in my mouth with her touch.
Uh… What did I just do?
“Um… Really? Seems like you like it.”
Lucia, not expecting this reaction, smiled vaguely and then let out a silly laugh, realizing that I hadn’t given up on the lemon candy she had given me.
…Why did I do that? How did my taste suddenly become addicted to lemons?
“Euch…”
Looking at me in a pleased manner, she took something out of the clutch bag she was carrying.
“Here, take it!”
A bag of lemon candies. At least it seemed like there were over a hundred candies in the bag.
Why is she giving me this? Of course, I like candies, but receiving them directly from the person who tamed my taste with lemons feels oddly strange.
“You don’t want to buy them separately, right? I have a lot, so just take them.”
And, while shaking it in front of my eyes, she says,
“My arm hurts.. Anyway, since the dormitory is right in front, I can just take it and eat it whenever I pull it.”
It’s a valid point, but still, to receive something like this from the person who confessed to me..
“Ah, so frustrating!”
Lucia pounded on her chest and forcefully handed me a candy bag.
And then, she looked at me as if she couldn’t stand it anymore and said to me.
“I’m giving it to you, so think about me while you eat it. Is that so difficult?”
“Why should I think about you..”
“Don’t talk back, just think about it since you like candy too. It’s not like it will go bad!”
Honestly, maybe because I’ve gotten so used to it, every time I eat candy.
No, whenever I see something similar to yellow, Lucia’s thoughts come to mind little by little.
Is that also her intention? It can’t be anything but a wicked teaching assistant method.
But, this method won’t affect me at all.
“What’s the use of thinking, I have no feelings for you at all.”
As soon as she heard my words, Lucia once again lit up and pointed her finger, declaring that I was wrong.
Seeing her annoyingly flick her finger with a rhythm, I wanted to just snap it back.
Whether I say it or not, she put her finger back in and with a gesture of clearing her throat.
Something, like a false religious leader delivering a speech to her devotees, she opened her mouth again.
“Think about it, even if you meet another girl later, someday you will eat candy, right?”
“..That’s right?”
“And, if you keep thinking about me while eating candy like this. At that time, you will definitely think about me, right?”
“…?”
Somewhere in the increasingly strange conversation, I raised a question mark, but her words continued.
“Missing me like that, eventually falling for me and leaving that girl..”
“This is insane.”
What kind of conversation is this? She’s proudly boasting about some golden sun-like NT*R crime plan.
Feeling irritated, I tried to give back the candy, but before the candy bag in my hand could reach her, Lucia quickly moved out of reach and added.
“It’s too late, you will start thinking about me every time you eat candy, won’t you? No, not just candy, anything sweet!”
Nonsense, as if I would fall for such a petty insinuation.
I just have to try not to think about it, and I should definitely leave the lemon candy at home and never eat it.
If it’s not possible, I will do whatever it takes to buy and eat even a memory eraser.
Lucia, who was looking at me with that intention, spoke to me with a smile.
“Just date me and there won’t be any of that. How about it? Are you interested?”
“Absolutely not.”
Upon hearing my response, Lucia seemed disappointed and pursed her lips.
“Well, I still had fun today.”
She sat at a suitable distance, leaned her chin on her hand, and lightly waved her hand at me.
Seeing her giggling, I felt frustrated as if I had lost again.
I feel this every time, being unable to properly retaliate and always getting trapped by his pace.
I wonder if he knows men well or if it’s his nature. He is truly an infuriating guy.
“And, if we can, let’s go out like this again next time!”
Lucia, still smiling, said.
Why is she suddenly being unnecessarily affectionate and causing a commotion?
I turned around, hiding my slightly flushed face, and casually replied as I headed back to the dormitory.
“I’ll think about it.”
This is definitely not me saying that I’ve fallen for her or anything like that.
It’s just a nonchalant response with no lingering attachment, as rejecting her bluntly might cause trouble for my future self.
…Really, there was no hint of personal emotions in it at all.
