I want to become a killer

Chapter 24: Part 23

The city felt different now, as if it was holding its breath, waiting for the inevitable. The protests continued to grow, swelling into a full-blown uprising. News outlets buzzed with coverage, painting the chaos as a sign of the people's fury. Social media was flooded with hashtags, video clips, and personal accounts of the violence, each one fanning the flames. Every day, more people joined in the unrest. Distrust in the government deepened. Fear spread, thick and fast.

And amidst all this, we remained in the shadows, pulling the strings. Solomon's network was already in place—people in key positions feeding the media with carefully crafted narratives, twisting the facts to make the government look weak and incapable. But the real work was being done in the streets, where we needed to make our move.

The unrest was more than just a protest; it was a battle for control. The old systems—corrupt and bloated—were beginning to crumble under the weight of their own failures. People were looking for answers, looking for someone to take charge, someone who could fix the broken pieces. That's where we came in.

I spent the next few days meeting with our recruits—people who understood what had to be done. Former military officers, disillusioned politicians, a few media moguls with their own agendas. We were building a network that would act as both the catalyst and the foundation for the new world we were creating.

But even as I moved through the process, there was something unsettling about the whole thing. I couldn't shake the feeling that the more we pushed, the more we risked losing control. We were playing with fire, and at any moment, everything could burn beyond our ability to extinguish it.

One evening, as I sat in my apartment, going over the plans, my phone buzzed. It was a message from Solomon. The time is almost here. Meet me at the safe house. We have a window of opportunity.

I didn't hesitate. I grabbed my jacket and left, the city's noise growing louder in my ears as I made my way through the streets. The energy in the air was different now—charged, anxious. People had begun to understand that something far bigger was happening. Some were excited. Others were terrified.

When I arrived at the safe house, Solomon was already waiting, as calm as always. The room was sparse, with a few chairs, a small table, and a large map spread across the floor. He didn't waste time.

"We have an opening," he said, his voice low and urgent. "The government is on the brink. They've called for a curfew, but it's only making things worse. They're losing the support of the public. We need to move in—now."

I stepped forward, looking down at the map. "What's the plan?"

"The first step is isolating the government's leaders. We have insiders who can lock down their communication systems, cut them off from the outside world. While they're scrambling to maintain control, we take the streets. We create the illusion that the people are fully behind us. We need to act fast."

I nodded, absorbing the details. This was it. The culmination of everything we had set into motion. The moment of truth.

"And after that?" I asked.

"We give them two choices: step aside or face complete collapse. We have enough influence now to offer the illusion of a new order, a new beginning. But in reality, it will be our order. We'll promise them peace in exchange for their loyalty. Those who resist will be removed."

I felt the familiar rush—exhilaration mixed with an undeniable edge of fear. This was the moment I had been preparing for. But there was something else, something I couldn't shake. A quiet voice in the back of my mind questioning everything.

"What if they don't step aside?" I asked, the question heavier than I intended.

Solomon's eyes met mine, his expression unreadable. "Then we make an example of them. Publicly. A show of power. People need to believe we're serious. And once they see that, they'll fall in line. They always do."

I swallowed, feeling the weight of his words. There was no turning back now. The lines had been drawn.

"We move in twenty-four hours," Solomon said, breaking the silence. "Get your people ready. The revolution will begin with a single act. One choice. One move that changes everything."

I stood still for a moment, the room spinning with the implications of what was about to unfold. This was more than just taking control of a city. This was about shaping the future. Creating a world that would bend to my will.

"Let's do it," I said, the words coming out more certain than I felt. "Let's take control."

As I left the safe house, the air around me felt charged, like the calm before a storm. The world was on the verge of something massive, something irreversible. And I—no, we—were the ones who would make sure it happened.

The countdown had begun. Tomorrow, everything would change.
