Chapter 3:
Chapter 3: Is the Demon Emperor an Undercover Agent for the Righteous Sect?:
Half a day later, Wang Muchen arrived outside the ethereal Misty Palace, thousands of miles away.
Misty Palace was one of the most prestigious sects in the righteous path, ruling over an entire region with considerable strength. The sect was located amidst towering peaks that stretched for dozens of kilometers.
His ex-fiancée, Zhong Yuhong, was the sect master of Misty Palace, a top-tier Dao Realm expert.
Misty Palace only accepted female disciples, and the sect’s picturesque scenery was unparalleled.
Wang Muchen strolled casually through the palace grounds, altering the protective formation of Misty Peak as he went, rendering it temporarily inoperable.
To him, Misty Peak’s formation was rudimentary. Compared to formations from later generations, even a middle school student could unravel it.
Once he finished tampering with the formation, it didn’t take long for him to spot his ex-fiancée, Zhong Yuhong, in a garden on the main peak.
“Who’s there?” Zhong Yuhong’s sharp gaze darted toward Wang Muchen’s position.
Her expression was icy, but her heart was shaken. Someone had managed to infiltrate Misty Palace’s main peak unnoticed.
Even the protective array had failed to activate.
Who could this intruder be?
“It’s been a long time, Hong’er,” Wang Muchen revealed himself slowly.
“Wang Muchen?” Zhong Yuhong took a few steps back, intending to trigger the alarm and activate the sect’s protective formation.
But no matter how much true energy she channeled into the formation talisman, it remained unresponsive.
Her heart sank. Could it be that the Demon Sect was planning an attack on Misty Palace and had already disabled the formation?
Yet she didn’t feel much fear. Those who are favored often act with impunity.
She was confident that Wang Muchen wouldn’t harm her.
“There’s no need to be so tense. Before I die, I just wanted to see you one last time,” Wang Muchen said, sitting on a stone bench.
He smiled faintly, his expression exuding a devilish charm. “You should know that I mean you no harm.”
His gaze roamed over Zhong Yuhong. Dressed in pure white, her flawless figure radiated an ethereal aura, noble and otherworldly.
She seemed more like a celestial being than a mortal woman.
In later generations, she was one of the three Empresses and the dream goddess of countless people.
Winning her over would be easy.
Historical accounts noted that after the Demon Emperor’s death, Zhong Yuhong was filled with guilt, believing that their broken engagement had caused Wang Muchen’s descent into the demonic path. She ultimately did not marry Lin Fan but instead secluded herself by the Demon Emperor’s grave for the rest of her life.
This proved that Wang Muchen still held a place in her heart.
“What do you mean by that?” Zhong Yuhong frowned, her tone mocking. “Disabling the sect’s protective formation hardly seems like a friendly gesture.”
“Besides, the Demon Sect has recently conquered two more regions. With half the world under your control and your powers growing, how could you possibly be close to death?”
“Allow me to congratulate the Lord in advance on unifying the world for all eternity,” she added sarcastically.
Despite her scornful tone, she was inwardly troubled, wondering about Wang Muchen’s intentions. Could he have uncovered their plan?
This was bad.
The current Wang Muchen gave her a sense of unpredictability.
His abilities, from evading detection to disabling the sect’s formation, were beyond anything she had ever heard of.
“I simply didn’t want anyone to interrupt our conversation. Don’t worry, I’ll leave after I say my piece,” Wang Muchen said calmly. “As for why I’m nearing my end—don’t you already know?”
“Isn’t it because the eleven regions have formed an alliance, thanks to your coordination with Li Yushi?”
“My subordinates have almost all betrayed me, also because of your secret dealings with Li Yushi.”
“And the trap, no doubt already set, is just waiting for Lin Fan to emerge and finish me off.”
Zhong Yuhong’s heart trembled, and she blurted out, “Impossible! How could you know that?”
She had thought her actions were flawless, leaving no trace for Wang Muchen to detect.
A chill ran through her as she realized she had underestimated him. For the first time, she found herself unable to see through Wang Muchen.
Everything they had plotted had been under his watchful eye.
“Take a guess,” Wang Muchen replied with a devilish smile.
Zhong Yuhong’s eyebrows furrowed tightly. “Your subordinates must be feigning betrayal, or perhaps you have another intelligence network.”
The alliance of the eleven regions was something the Demon Emperor might have had difficulty concealing.
But the upper echelon of his intelligence network had already defected. Unless he had another source, there was no way he could have learned of the alliance.
But then she reconsidered. Forget the alliance—what about the trap? That was an absolute secret, known only to a select few who were impossible to turn. So how did he know?
Wang Muchen chuckled and said nonchalantly, “Relax. My subordinates have truly betrayed me.”
“Although we have spies within the eleven-region alliance, since my intelligence network has defected, their reports naturally can’t reach me.”
“So, your guess is wrong.”
Zhong Yuhong’s expression hardened. “Do you think I’m so easily fooled?”
Wang Muchen had never lied to her, but she found his words unbelievable now.
There was something off about him—he seemed even more like a Demon Emperor than before.
“If their betrayal was staged, why would I bother telling you about it?” Wang Muchen said matter-of-factly.
Zhong Yuhong froze, falling silent. She had to admit that his reasoning made sense.
If their betrayal were a ruse, Wang Muchen could have orchestrated a counterattack at a critical moment, catching the righteous factions off guard.
By telling her now, he only made her more cautious.
Wang Muchen continued, “The reason I know is simple—I’m an undercover agent from the Xuantian Sword Sect within the Heavenly Saint Sect.”
The Xuantian Sword Sect was the righteous path’s leading sect and the one he had joined before falling to the demonic path.
Of course, his claim of being a spy was pure fabrication.
His tone was calm, but to Zhong Yuhong, his words were like a thunderclap.
The Demon Sect’s leader, an undercover agent for the righteous path? That joke was far from amusing.
“Impossible,” Zhong Yuhong declared firmly.
