I suddenly became the villain and I liked it

After some time, Melanie arrives in my room.

“Hello, miss Athena. Are you okay?”

“Just the same, Melanie. I have been forced to rest and I will do so for now.”

“Wow. Someone forced you to rest?”

“Yes. You might have met her. She is the head maid of my household. She will also be staying here for the time being to take care of me.”

“Oh. I totally get it.”

Melanie looks around the room for some reason. Then, she leans near me and whispers.

“Dad hired some maids and one of them is really scary.”

“Understandable. Sometimes, you just have to listen to the head maid.”

Melanie nods in response.

“It’s not like she’s hurting me or anything but the way she looks when she’s mad scares me. What she says also makes sense so I can’t even retort. And if I do, she becomes scarier!”

Before I received my other memories, I was terrified of head maid. I knew that it would be easy for her to make my life more miserable than it already is.

“And then-“

The door suddenly opens as head maid enters the room.

“Oh, uh, hello! M-my name is Melanie Vermillion.”

Melanie jumps up as head maid enters. Head maid is taller than Melanie and she stares for some time. Melanie fidgets as she looks uncomfortable. After some time, head maid closes her eyes and bows.

“Welcome, miss Melanie Vermillion. I am just a humble maid from the household of Duke Eterna. I shall be staying here for a few days to take care of milady. I hope I would not be a bother.”

“Oh, uh, yeah. No problem.”

Head maid cleans up some utensils and eventually leaves. Once she is gone, Melanie slumps beside my bed. She is really funny.

“Woah. She scarier than our maid.”

“I understand.”

“I thought I would be killed for being too close to you. Good thing she didn’t hear anything!”

“She did.”

“Huh?”

“She definitely heard everything.”

“What!? How do you know!?”

“She is our head maid, after all.”

“Oh no! Will I be killed? Can you at least put on my grave that I did my best?”

“Do not worry. None of what you said is grounds to kill you.”

“But you’re saying that something is!”

“If head maid truly wanted to kill you, she would have to go through me first. So, do not worry.”

“Oh, okay. Whew.”

She believed me just like that. She really is funny.

“Now, let us get to business.”

“Business?”

“Did you not come here after being called?”

“Huh? No. I wanted to see how you were doing so I went straight here when I got back.”

I see. Sylvia must be doing something.

“Well, it matters not. Now that you are here, I need you to inform me of what has happened.”

“Okay. The principal had an announcement today.”

“Did she announce anything related to me?”

“Not really, it was a really short one too. She just informed all of us that we will be having our exams by the end of the month.”

In my other memories, this would be like a mid-term exam. After this, there will be a month-long break. Well, my grades would be determined by Sylvia’s scores so it will be fine. Which is why I also need Sylvia to return to school. A maid by our household is not allowed to fail their studies.

“What about Blanche Frost?”

“She is still the same. She’s not really doing anything as usual.”

“She has not spoken to you?”

“She did but it was more like she’s asking about you. I don’t really know how to talk to her, you know? She’s also quite scary.”

“I see. Blanche Frost might look aloof and uncaring but that is the wrong assumption. Her and her family look at life through logic but in that logic lies feelings. She is not one to ignore another, even if her icy disposition makes people think otherwise.”

“Huh?”

“As long as her logic does not give her any reason to, she will be open. And for you Melanie, I feel that you can get along with her just fine. Your dispositions might be complete opposite but I believe that your feelings can get to her.”

“Okay! I’ll try getting along with her.”

“Good. Just be honest and do not deceive her and you will be fine.”

Right. I have not informed her of our private dorm. Something I need to do when I am better.

“Now, anything else you feel that should be reported?”

“Oh. Uh, I have one! Rumors were that someone is bullying the prince’s commoner friend.”

“Again?”

“Yeah. It hasn’t reached the prince yet but something is happening again. Apparently, it’s someone else this time.”

Hmm, weird timing. From the timeline that I know, this is where the villainess group tries to publicly condemn the female protagonist for being too close to the prince. But rumors of her getting bullied are circling again. Does that mean the event is not going to happen? Its not really an event that I need to occur but it does remove most of the villainess group. Since I was not truly involved, only those girls that actively bullied her would be removed from the story.

“Has there been any mention on what was done to her?”

“No. I only heard it once though. So, I don’t really know what is going on with that.”

Just once? No way.

“Melanie, when did you hear of this rumor?”

“Uh. Just a few days ago. Why?”

I see. So that is how it is. There was something that happened during that time. It all lines up.

“I understand. No need to worry, Melanie. I need some time alone.”

“Uh, okay?”

Melanie leaves in confusion. If that the case, I could use this. It would be a more efficient way of removing those pests without exerting any effort. Now, I have limited time. After two weeks of rehab, I need to return. The remaining time would be difficult but that is normal for me already.
