Chapter 6 - Chapter 6: Change
Chapter 6: Change
I messed up in a panic!! It’s absolutely impossible for me to refer to myself as “big brother” like that! What if they find out about memories from my past life?!
“A-Alright…,”
Normally, Cassius, who is usually cheeky, replied calmly, but I could feel embarrassment creeping up on me, making my face and ears turn red!
Or is it just my imagination? No, it’s not, everyone’s gaze is piercing through me.
“Others, continue your training!”
With a commanding tone, the subordinates present snapped back to attention and resumed their training.
“Cassius, if you can walk, let’s go to the infirmary from here. It’s better not to lose any more blood for a quicker recovery.”
“Y-Yes…”
While he was quiet, I quickly tied up his arm. Supporting his arm to avoid touching the wound, we started walking, but Cassius seemed extremely flustered.
I wish he’d stop staring at my face like that. Damn it, my ears must still be burning, making them probably red.
“What are you staring at?”
“Ah, no, um, the captain… earlier… Gah! Ouch!”
Mid-sentence, Cassius spat out and winced as the wound stung. He was definitely about to mention my “big brother” remark.
It can’t be helped, how many years do you think I’ve been a “big brother” all these years?
My brother is the same age as Cassius, eighteen, so I’ve been a big brother for eighteen years!
The youngest twin was five, so you can’t help but refer to yourself as “big brother”!
If he laughs any more, I may have to make him unable to laugh.
Am I being influenced by my past way of thinking? If so, I need to be careful; otherwise, I might be heading straight for a future where I’ll be killed.
“Talking consumes energy when you’re injured, so don’t speak anymore.”
“Didn’t the captain speak to me just now?”
“Did you say something?”
“No, nothing.”
As I glared at Cassius muttering, he immediately fell silent. At the same time, a healer escorted by Squire appeared from the infirmary.
“Oh my, this is bad! I’ll apply healing magic right away… um…”
The healer glanced around anxiously. Since healing magic also depletes the recipient’s stamina, they probably wanted him to sit down.
“Cassius, sit over there. You might feel dizzy once the healing magic is applied.”
“Huh? I’m not that weak, though.”
“Cassius.”
“Yes…”
Calling his name in a deliberately low voice, he obediently complied. In cases like this, speaking calmly and softly is more effective than shouting.
Although the knights are more mischievous than my brothers, my experience as their big brother seems to come in handy.
“Well then… ‘Healing Heal.'”
It was like watching fast-forwarded footage as the wound closed up rapidly. I can heal minor scratches myself, but I can’t heal such a deep cut.
The difference in power is astonishing depending on whether one has aptitude or not. However, it seems that the healer’s magical power is not that abundant, as they looked sweaty and exhausted by the time the wound closed.
“Phew… you should be fine now.”
“Ah, receiving healing magic is tiring after all. Well then, back to training!”
Without even thanking the healer, Cassius got up.
“Hey, at least say thank you properly.”
“Huh?”
The voices of the three people present overlapped. The previous me wasn’t someone who easily said thank you either.
But from now on, for the sake of educating my subordinates, I have to take the lead in acting correctly!
[Training Grounds Side]
After Justin and Cassius headed to the infirmary and disappeared from the training ground, the movements of the knights who had been sparring ceased. Then, someone spoke up.
“Hey, I didn’t mishear that earlier, did I? Did everyone else hear it too?”
“Yeah, I doubted my ears too. It’s strange enough for the captain to show that kind of consideration for Cassius.”
“So that earlier wasn’t a mishearing. The captain said ‘big brother’ about himself…”
The knights exchanged glances and swallowed nervously.
“Big brother…”
They all said it simultaneously, then collapsed or doubled over, laughing.
“Hahaha! That’s unbelievable!”
“And did you see it?! He was so red, right?! Haha!”
“I’ve never seen the captain like that before! Hahaha!”
“Hehe, nobody else would believe it if we told them, huh?”
“If he was always like that, it’d be cute. Ouch, what the heck?! Hey, you, even though you’re a Squire, you hit me!”
“Isn’t it because Amedeo said something weird?”
Most of the people present either hit or kicked the knight who spoke the furthest from Justin’s words. Even those who didn’t lay a hand on him were rubbing their arms as if they were shivering.
For them, it’s a means of self-defense in a way, as they are often not properly recognized by others due to their birth. While they are acknowledged for their abilities as watchdogs, whether they will be viewed more favorably in the future depends on Justin’s guidance, as their pack-like, hot-tempered nature persists.
