I Received System to Become Dragonborn

Chapter 720: No Time

Laston gritted his teeth, his expression twisted into something that resembled a smile but held no amusement, that was only boiling anger.

The realization burned within him. Even with all his enhancements and the fusion of Magic and cybernetic technology, he still wasn’t strong enough to crush the Dragonborn. Not yet. He have yet to unleash his full power but still, this should be pretty strong.

Erend watched him closely. He saw that smile for what it was. Laston wasn’t mocking him but he was furious. And yet, beneath that rage, Erend could sense something else, certainty.

The Dragonborn exhaled sharply, his body still radiating heat from his previous attack. Even if he could beat Laston in this fight, that didn’t mean he had won. He knew what Laston was thinking. His plan was already in motion in the Elf Palace.

Erend’s jaw tightened. Laston didn’t need to win here. He had already won somewhere else.

The pieces clicked together in his mind. This fight was never just about strength. Something far worse unfolded. If Erend wanted to stop it, he couldn’t afford to drag this out. He needed to kill Laston.

But even as he thought that, he knew it wouldn’t be so simple.

Killing Laston wasn’t just a matter of power. The man had built himself to adapt and evolve mid-battle. Erend had already seen how the armor responded to his attacks and constantly shifting and reinforcing itself.

If he didn’t end this in one decisive blow, Laston would counter and the fight would spiral into a war of attrition. He don’t want to do that.

His gaze locked onto Laston and for the first time in this battle, the two shared an understanding.

Laston smirked then his armor start recalibrated again, the cracks from Erend’s blow sealing themselves. He raised a hand and flexing his fingers as if testing his systems.

"You already realizing it, aren’t you?" Laston said, his voice smooth despite the weight of the battle. "Even if you win here, you lose."

Erend didn’t respond immediately. Instead, he shifted his stance, rolling his neck as his red-black scales flared with renewed energy.

"You think so?" Erend said. His tone was calm, but his eyes burned with unwavering resolve.

Laston’s smirk widened. He didn’t say anything.

Erend moved.

Faster than before, faster than Laston’s sensors could fully process. The ground shattered beneath him as he closed the gap, flames roaring around his form. He wasn’t just attacking. He was aiming to end it.

Laston’s armor shifted instantly, layers of nano-metal folding into a defensive formation, barriers of light flickering into existence to absorb the impact. Weapons deployed, targeting systems locking onto every inch of Erend’s body.

With a roar, his fist tore through the barriers as if they were paper, the sheer force of his strike warping the very air around them.

Laston didn’t have time to react, then the blow connected.

Another explosion rocked the battlefield.

Veyna shielded her eyes from the force of the impact, her heart pounding. She had never seen Laston struggle like this. But as the dust settled she saw Laston still standing.

She can see that his armor was dented. But still standing.

And he was laughing. Not in mockery. But in sheer unyielding defiance of facing his old nemesis.

Erend exhaled sharply. His gut told him what he didn’t want to admit. This fight wasn’t ending here and time was running out.

Even after all those attacks, Laston was still standing. His armor was dented, some of its plating scorched and cracked, but he remained upright, his eyes burning with determination.

Erend clenched his fists. If he had enough time, he could kill Laston here. He was certain of it. But time was the one thing he didn’t have right now. Not with whatever was happening at the Elf Palace right now.

Erend sighed sharply, his body still radiating heat as he unclenched his fists. Then, without hesitation, he raised his hand and tore open a portal.

A swirling vortex of energy crackled in the air, distorting the space around it. He couldn’t waste any more time.

Behind him, Laston’s smirk widened. Then, he laughed. A low, knowing chuckle that grated on Erend’s nerves.

"Haha. You’re running away, Dragonborn?" Laston taunted, his voice laced with amusement and disdain.

Erend stopped in front of the portal, then turned to face Laston again. His expression was flat and unimpressed. The kind of look one gives to an annoying pest that refuses to go away.

"You know I’m not running away from you," Erend said. His voice was calm but carried an edge. "You’re the real coward here. You already have your army waiting in the Elf Palace and you know that I can’t stand here just for you."

Laston’s smirk faltered for a brief moment, his eyes narrowing in irritation.

Erend turned away without another word then he stepping toward the portal. The energy surrounding it crackled louder and growing unstable.

Laston’s fingers twitched as if he wanted to lunge forward and stop him. But he didn’t move. He just stood there and watching, his smirk replaced with a scowl, his fists clenching in barely contained anger.

Erend walked through the portal without looking back, and the moment he crossed, the vortex collapsed in on itself, vanishing into thin air.

The battlefield fell into silence just like that.

Laston stood there for a moment, staring at the spot where Erend had disappeared. Then, with a sharp exhale, he turned his gaze upward to where Veyna watched from above.

His scowl deepened.

"…Prepare the next phase," he muttered.

Your journey continues with NovelBin.Côm

Veyna’s sharp eyes gleamed as she nodded without saying anything.

Laston propelled himself into the air, soaring toward the window where Veyna stood. She watched him approach with calm respect, bowing her head slightly as he landed beside her.

"That beast is pretty strong, my lord," she said, her sharp gaze following the fading remnants of the battle below.

Laston gritted his teeth. "As you can see. I still need more enhancements before the final time." His voice was low, laced with frustration.

Without another word, he turned and walked away.

Veyna remained for a moment, her expression thoughtful. She, too, would need more preparation.
