Chapter 31
Chapter 31 After the king left, the nobles became more friendly to Daniel. This is because through the conversation he just had with the king, and it was clear to them that the relationship between Daniel and the king was still intact. As the nobles’ greetings and conversations about business continued, I decided to sit alone on the sofa in one corner of the banquet hall and relax alone. “Ugh, my feet hurt.” My shoes may have been made by a craftsman who produces only the finest in the capital, but they were still high heels. “Now, if I can just hold on a little longer, we can go home, right?” I wondered where Lucas and Colin had gone. I looked around and spotted Lucas standing outside the ballroom, and the women standing in front of him. ‘Wow, just by looking at them, they look cute. They are either rich families or noble ladies.’ Even among the women wearing high heels, Lucas was a hand or two taller, so his face was more visible. Well, even if he wasn’t tall, he would have been noticeable anywhere since he shines so brightly. The women surrounding Lucas, holding glasses of champagne, laughed and talked. Lucas also closed his eyes and smiled. I was debating whether or not I should approach Lucas, but the women waved goodbye as if the conversation was over and left Lucas. “I’ll see you later, Lucas.” They don’t forget to touch his chest in a friendly way. Apparently, the girls liked him a lot. “Ah, Luca…” It was the moment when I approached to intervene. Lucas took off the jacket he was wearing and handed it to the attendant. “Throw this away on your way out.” It was a jacket that looked expensive at first glance, but… The servant took the jacket and walked out without saying a word. Lucas, dressed in a dress shirt and vest, let out an annoyed sigh and then widened his eyes when he saw me. “Rosie?” “Lucas, you…. you….” “Huh?” Lucas was visibly flustered. Like an adolescent who’d been caught doing something naughty by his mom. “You. Follow me.” I approached Lucas with a cold face and spoke. And then I forcefully dragged him into a corner where there were few people. “Rosie, why are you bringing me to such a dark place… ah! ouch!” “Ugh, you! Is the money really easy? Did you think that if you dig the dirt you can make a lot of money?! You stupid child!” Slap, slap! Perhaps because he was only wearing a dress shirt, the sound of flesh being hit was even louder. Lucas, who had been hit hard by me for the first time in a long time, cried out in frustration. “Ah, why are you hitting me! Don’t hit me!” “Why! Are you asking because you don’t know that? Because I see you taking off your expensive jacket and throwing it away. How long have you been rich, and are you so full of yourself? Who made you this way, Daniel? Colin? Who is it?!” “Ugh!” I said, lowering my hand and placing it on my waist, and Lucas pouted his lips in frustration. But there’s nothing to be said for pursed lips. He just stared at me, looking for an excuse. Then he cleared his throat.“Have you seen…?” “Yes, I saw it, with my own two eyes.” “I feel unfair. People I met for the first time touched me without my permission.” Lucas drooped his eyebrows like a scolded puppy. Knowing full well that he was appealing to sympathy, I shook my head and said it was absurd. “That must be a sign of friendliness! I understand you don’t like it. But does it make sense to throw away clothes too? I never raised you like that!!” “What about friendliness? It’s a trick. A ploy to seduce a wealthy commoner!” Lucas did not lose and countered what I said. We shouted back and forth until we were both red in the face, and then Lucas, his face as red as a tomato, pleaded. “I don’t like it when anyone touches me other than Rosie… It feels like bugs are crawling all over my body!” “Hey, no matter what, the clothes….” I frowned, muttered, and quit. Lucas has been a very sensitive child since he was a baby. From the time he was old enough to sleep through the day, he would toss and turn all night if his bed was changed or if he heard the slightest sound. It’s no wonder that he’s afraid to interact with people he doesn’t know. Of course I understand. ‘But if you have that kind of personality, you’ll never be able to make friends for the rest of your life…’ Regardless of Lucas’ unusual temperament, shouldn’t he be able to open his heart to others? If this was a mansion, I would have lectured him like a parent, but alas, this was a banquet hall. Hah, I sighed and grabbed Lucas’ wrist. “… Okay. Then let’s go over there and rest.” “Huh. Okay!” Lucas grinned and nodded, probably thinking I’d stopped lecturing him. The place we headed to was the poorly lit corridor of the royal palace. It was a noisy and luxurious banquet hall that was visible just by passing through one door. Fortunately, the corridor had large windows connected to the outside, where tired people could sit and rest for a while. We each got a glass of champagne and sat on the dark window sill. Outside, I could catch a glimpse of the pitch-black night sky, moonlight, and royal garden. There were no lights as bright as the banquet hall, but the moonlight was bright and Lucas’ face was clearly visible. “How are you supposed to make friends when you’re such a sensitive adult? huh?” “Ah, that again…. I’m going to live with the brothers for the rest of my life, so there’s no need to worry. Stop nagging.” Lucas said, puffing out his cheeks. It seemed like he didn’t want to hear me constantly disciplining him like a mother. “I’m just saying this because I’m worried about you! Are you talking to anyone other than Daniel and Colin?” Even in the novel, Lucas was the youngest master who was extremely sensitive and emotional. That’s why he directly harassed Deborah, saying he didn’t like her, but as a result, he lost his heart to the female protagonist, Deborah. That may be because Deborah is the female lead, but… ‘Still, having two brothers and one girl your world is pretty narrow for human being.’ Is it because Lucas was raised on a piggyback ride from a young age? As long as he was in front of me, the nagging wouldn’t stop. “It might get better later if you meet a good woman and get married. Still, for human relationships it is too narrow…” While I was lost in random thoughts and talking to myself, a stinging gaze landed on my cheek. When I turned to the side, I saw Lucas looking at me with his eyebrows slightly narrowed. His face was completely sulky, as if he didn’t like something. “Why do you look at me like that?” “I’m not marrying another woman.” “What?” Lucas opened his mouth as if he had a lot to say, then closed it again with a sigh. Then he flicked his gaze away as if he was openly offended. I knew it was one of Lucas’s bad habits. It was one of Lucas’s bad habits: rambling on and on and never giving a reason. But I glared at him as if demanding an answer, and he opened his mouth as if defeated by my gaze. “… I’m not marrying another woman. Not unless it’s with Rosie.” “What?” I asked, surprised by his words. I smile at the absurdity of it all, but when Lucas’s glare grew sharper, I clapped my hands over my mouth in a hasty gesture of silence. It was too late, though. Lucas raised an eyebrow. “Does Rosie find my heart funny?” “Oh, no, not funny, more like…. Why are you picturing a future where you’re going to marry me, anyway?” “That’s…!” “Isn’t marriage supposed to be a two-person affair, and you’re doing this without asking for my opinion? Who’s going to marry you, did you propose to me without my knowledge?” When I spoke pointedly, Lucas’ face turned red as if he hadn’t even thought about it. So much so that it is clearly visible even in the pure white moonlight. Then, his clear blue eyes seemed to become moist, and Lucas glared at me with a very drugged face. ‘Oh my. I should have known better.’ Lucas can go two weeks with pouting, and right now he looked like he was about to. Maybe I had gone too far, teasing him. “Rosie always treats me like a child….” “Luc-Lucas, are you okay?” “I’m not okay!” Lucas shouted and emptied the entire glass of champagne. And he even took the glass I was holding and drank it all himself! I was shocked and tried to stop Lucas, but both glasses were already completely empty. “Lucas!” Hey, can you really get drunk on two glasses of champagne? no way? Lucas kept saying that I didn’t know anything. With his head down. When I lowered my head to look at his face, Lucas raised his arm and blocked my face. “Rosie is an idiot!”He sulked. That’s 100 percent… “Lucas, I’m sorry, but look at me, huh?” Even when we lived together at the orphanage, if Lucas felt very upset, he would be silence for several days. I wonder if that’s still the case now that he’s an adult. As I looked at him anxiously, Lucas lifted his head from his bowed position. Our faces were almost nose-to-nose as he hung close to my arm, trying to see my face. As I held my breath in surprise, Lucas looked straight into my eyes and said. “I’m all grown up now. Don’t treat me like a kid anymore.” “… Huh?” “I’m a man now. While I was away from Rosie, I already became an adult…” “…….” “If you treat me like a child again, then I won’t just stay still… Phew.” The smell of alcohol and fruit wafted over my face along with Lucas’ breath. Before I could say anything, Lucas collapsed onto one of the chairs in the hallway, his neck red. “Phew… Hiccup.” Then he snored loudly. “This kid is really…” I tried to shake off my shocked heart. Then I clenched my fist and smacked him in the back of the head as he trembled and passed out from two glasses of champagne.
