I Planned a Su*cide Mission and Got Kicked Out of the Party

Chapter 63

Walter had no intention of surrendering to any woman besides Rose, especially not to the detestable Succubus Queen.

In the end, the Succubus Queen decided to gather her full forces from the north before the second week of the siege, issuing a return order to the troops stationed at the southern and western gates. The commander of the Demon King’s Army completed preparations to regroup his scattered forces. Everything seemed to be going smoothly, and Rose at the western gate lacked the manpower needed to strike against the moving Demon King’s Army.

According to the Succubus Queen’s calculations, this maneuver would proceed without a hitch. The troops from the southern gate would undoubtedly move north through the western gate rather than take a detour around the eastern lake. No matter how invincible the Crown Princess may be, it was impossible for her to strike against the vastly increased Demon King’s Army, swollen to around seven thousand, with a mere three hundred troops.

Sitting on the tent roof and looking toward the northern gate while waiting for reinforcements, the Succubus Queen suddenly narrowed her eyes and jumped up.

“This is strange.”

The Succubus murmured. This was odd even on a normal day, but with such an important maneuver taking place today, it was particularly concerning.

There was no sign of a Hero on the castle walls. Not a glimpse from morning until now, the entire day. The Succubus Queen instantly spread her wings and prepared to take flight, but the fear of Walter prevented her from recklessly soaring into the sky. He was no ordinary opponent. If a man like him claimed the role of enemy commander, there were far too many considerations before taking any action.

‘Is this just a trick? Or has he truly left? If it’s a trick, is this an action to lead me astray? If he’s really absent, is it to attack our retreating forces? But would someone as cautious as Walter Hellhound casually leave his position, dismissing the chance of being ambushed as I approach? Is he just confident that I fear his schemes and thus is bluffing?’

The Succubus Queen felt her head spinning. If it had been the Gargoyle Queen, she would have foolishly shouted, “Hey! That guy’s not here! Attack!” and charged, but unfortunately, she was not a mindless Gargoyle.

Rather, it was because of her intelligence that she found herself more easily ensnared and outmaneuvered when dealing with the likes of Walter.

“I must confirm. If it is a trick, then it is a trick worth verifying. But if I don’t check at such an opportune time, I will have no face to show the emperor later.”

Having reached her conclusion, the Succubus Queen slightly extended her wings and soared into the sky. Immediately, arrows began to rain down from the northern gate aimed at her, but the Succubus Queen elegantly dodged all the arrows and approached the castle gate, flying in a circle as she scouted the walls.

It didn’t seem like there was a Hero anywhere. Unless the Hero had been sleeping the whole night and was sound asleep in his tent, he was truly absent from the northern gate.

The Succubus Queen continued to fly near the castle walls, flapping her wings to confirm the possibility that Walter was waiting in the tent at the northern gate. A few arrows flew toward her threateningly, but most were attacks she could deflect with her large wings.

If the Hero was unable to ascend the walls and remained in the tent for some reason, then surely someone would rush down to call for him in this emergency where she had taken flight. However, after more than twenty minutes of circling and scouting the walls, there was no sign of the Hero or a soldier heading to fetch him.

Only then did the Succubus Queen completely confirm her suspicions and land on the ground. For some reason, she was certain that the Hero was not at the northern gate. The reason occupied her mind, but what was more important was that the troops at the northern gate had no way to respond to the ogre’s siege.

Even if the Hero had gone to annihilate the troops at the southern and western gates, it didn’t matter. In fact, it would be fine even if he had succeeded. This opportunity could not be missed. The Succubus Queen hurriedly returned to her troops, shouting commands for an immediate advance.

“All troops, charge! Charge! We will break down the northern gate and capture No Member! Ogres at the front! Orcs in the center! Knights on the flanks, charge toward the gate!”

The Queen’s orders were swiftly implemented. The ogres, seizing the rare chance to march out, charged forth like randy stallions, swinging their clubs mercilessly at the castle gate. The orcs, seeing this, realized that the Hero was absent from the northern gate and gained courage.

A rain of arrows fell upon the northern gate, and the siege ladders made their appearance.

The soldiers atop the northern gate fought valiantly, shooting arrows at the orcs, but the pace at which the Demon King’s army advanced was far too rapid and fierce.

In fact, the delighted Succubus Queen herself soared directly onto the castle gate, lifting several soldiers at once and tossing them off the walls to their deaths.

It was a precarious situation. The Hero had received urgent news early that morning and had moved to the southern gate. Had the Succubus Queen launched her attack about two hours earlier, the situation at the northern gate might have been much different.

But Walter wasted no time either. It was time to conclude this siege with a victory for the defenders.

“The enemy’s forces are double ours.”

Walter muttered as he gazed at the Demon King’s army which was ready to retreat from the northern gate. An imperial officer next to him made a puzzled expression.

“I’m sorry, but Your Excellency… Isn’t the enemy more than seven times our numbers?”

“No, it’s double. Can you lend me your shield, soldier?”

At Walter’s words, the imperial officer eagerly handed his iron shield to the Hero. Feeling that it was finally time, Walter drew the holy sword from his waist and began to strike his sword against the shield like a madman.

Clang! The resounding sound echoed, amplified and amplified by the force of magic. The sound wave spread, as if one could directly see the flow of the magic vibrating through the air. What had once sounded noisy began to resonate with a refined and elegant tone as it repeated.

Walter’s enemies felt an inexplicable fear at the moment they heard that sound. His soldiers, on the other hand, felt an unexplainable surge of courage.

And far away to the south, Walter’s hidden friends realized this was the real ‘signal’ that Gama had talked about.

The green flag fluttered. The cavalry of Eramenia dispelled their concealment magic and rushed in with their flag waving.

Exactly one hundred elven cavalrymen led the charge. But to the demon race, who were shaken by the wavelengths of magic, they appeared as an overwhelming force of several thousand.

The demon’s forces, which had planned to retreat all at once westward, began to splinter as they were attacked by the cavalry. The shining golden-armored cavalrymen, as if they had a pact, precisely split into two groups, each pushing the enemy back east and west.

Soon after, the archers with their exceptional long-range skills followed in behind the cavalry, further decimating the fleeing demon ranks. There were no commanders left in the Demon King’s army to stabilize the situation, and even if there were, the officers had already been pierced through by the lances of cavalrymen. The orcs, deprived of their reasoning, followed the elven forces’ leads like a herd of beasts.

Forgetting that there was a lake to the east, the orcs, in search of their escape, ran toward the lake. Those who fled westward were at least heading toward their allies, but their chaotic flight only added to the confusion of their own side.

Walter immediately gave orders to the soldiers in the southern gate to open the gates and charge out, then began running toward the northern gate, coming down from the castle walls. The beast hunt had begun. However, for this siege to succeed, the elven cavalry had to hold out at the northern gate until the beasts were driven together.

The Succubus Queen moved slightly earlier than Walter had anticipated, making even the Hero feel anxious about the fight. Walter had originally planned to participate in driving the enemies back, but plans never go as expected.

As Walter rode furiously toward the northern gate, a heavy infantry and archer unit joined the elven cavalry behind them, completing the formation of two full elven legions.

Originally assigned to Margaret, this legion was now under Walter’s command and had been hidden away with the intention of delivering a decisive blow to the enemy.

Ordinary imperial troops couldn’t have hidden forces like this, but these were fairies. They were originally a capable secretive race, and this unit was one that could use powerful concealment magic.

The situation to the east was quickly resolved. The demon race, which had been pushed to the lake by troops far outnumbered, began to fall into the water one by one, unable to even form a proper rear guard.

Once the situation began to settle down, the spearmen and archers swiftly made their way to the edge of the lake to attack the enemy from the north. With the pressure from the cavalry decreasing, a few of the orcs made weak counterattacks, but blocking their way were the elven heavy infantry who had joined late, armed with large shields and swords.

As the infantry pushed the orcs toward the lake with their shields, the elite archers who hid behind the infantry shot arrows, turning resisting orcs into carcasses. The situation was wrapping up unexpectedly quickly. The right flank of the elven legion began advancing like a well-oiled machine toward the unprotected side of the Succubus Queen.

The left flank, however, was a bit more cumbersome. Initially, the demon race, fleeing in confusion, now steadied themselves upon seeing their allies entrenched with trenches.

No matter how elite the cavalry was, the leading forces comprised only about one hundred from the spearmen and archers combined.

The elves, despite their numerical disadvantage, did not hesitate to charge, but the trenches and the lingering confusion among the orcs began to create significant obstacles.

Of course, Rose was not about to just sit and watch that situation unfold.

“The time has come.”

Rose, riding on her black horse, murmured as she gathered all the soldiers on the castle walls to the front gate.

“It’s time to end this battle! Everyone! Annihilate those bastards! Ignore the trenches! Don’t worry about how solid their defense is! With the iron wall on your side, I’ve never forced my soldiers into a fight they couldn’t win!”

And the moment the castle gate opened, Rose charged headfirst, wildly galloping at the forefront of her three hundred soldiers.

The scene was horrific as the unprepared army, astonished by the storm coming from the south, had failed to guard against the tempest from the west. Rose’s steed galloped like it was crossing flat ground, leaping through multiple trenches and plowing right into the midst of the orcs, trampling the stunned demon race to death. The sword wielded by the Crown Princess did not slay any less than her horse.

As imperial forces filled with morale joined through the gap Rose had made, the entire order of the Demon King’s army staggering toward retreat fell into panic.

As they felt a gaping hole in their flank, the defense from the south crumbled as a result. The elven cavalrymen surged unhindered over the trenches, pressing the orcs, who could no longer hold out, into a desperate flight toward the north, seemingly forgetting their numerical superiority.

The archers and the heavily armored infantrymen joining late also shot at the fleeing backs of the orcs, causing the speed of the Demon King’s army to rapidly increase, faster and faster, until they could hardly slow down even upon colliding with their own main force. From the Succubus Queen’s standpoint, it was like a perfect signal of disaster.

Thanks to Walter catching his breath and arriving at the northern gate, the gate that had felt like it would shatter at any moment was barely holding on. The Succubus Queen couldn’t hide her disappointment and abandoned further flight, knowing that without the Hero, the ogres couldn’t pound the castle gate as violently as before.

The Hero was exhausted. The magic of his sword was unstable, and several ogres still clung to the front lines, striking at the walls with fierce determination.

The casualties among the imperial forces were no longer minimal.

Yet Walter smiled. It was not entirely according to plan, but he was convinced the overall situation was turning in his favor.

Suddenly, shocks came simultaneously from the east and west.

From the east came approximately one hundred elite elven cavalry. It was a shocking turn of events for the Succubus Queen, who had been consumed with thoughts of charging into the gap created by Walter’s absence while forgetting about a flanking attack.

In particular, the east was blocked by a lake, meaning all their forces were expected to combine only through the west; therefore, from the perspective of the Demon King’s army, an attack from the east was nothing short of a surprise assault.

While the fifty spearmen plunged into the southeast of the Demon King’s main force, the archers rained arrows while circling the army, digging into its tail, which was the northeast. Even with only a hundred cavalrymen enveloping the flanks of an army numbering over a thousand, the attacks were surprisingly deadly. To the south loomed an impenetrable castle wall. To the southeast marched powerful spearmen. To the northeast advanced the deadly archers.

Numbers no longer mattered. The Demon King’s army teetered on the brink of losing control. The decisive blow was incoming. The main force of the Demon King’s army clashed with the invading orc forces. Immediately after the Succubus Queen urgently ordered full-scale defenses on both sides, the Demon King’s army seemed not even to recognize that the approaching units were friendly troops.

No, even if they had recognized it, perhaps they were too caught up in turmoil to think of stopping it.

The main force of the Demon King’s army aimed their weapons threateningly at the fleeing remnants of their own ranks, signaling them to not approach any further.

But for the orcs, chased by Rose and the elven cavalry, they either did not see that signal or, if they did, had no choice but to ignore it. The front lines were simply forced onward, propelled by the orcs behind them who were in the same panicked retreat.

The moment the orc army clashed with the orc army, the last link maintaining order within the Demon King’s forces broke. Fratricide began, and the northern gate was now outside the attention of the Demon King’s army.

The Succubus Queen, unable to accept the predicament she found herself in, merely blinked her eyes in confusion. At that moment, Walter clenched his fist and raised the holy sword, shouting,

“Now, it’s our turn to exit the castle! Encircle the enemy! Annihilate every last one of them! If you intend to encircle the enemy with your inadequate forces, show that beastly creature just how it’s done!”
