I Planned a Su*cide Mission and Got Kicked Out of the Party

Chapter 61

The situation on the Rose side was even more intense. Unlike the Succubus Queen, who, after seeing Walter’s defensive stance, was frightened and cowered inside the barracks, the Succubus lieutenant in charge of the western command was blindly pushing the Orcs towards the city walls with just a single command: “Make a frantic assault!”

It was a reckless attack that the Succubus herself did not need to lead from the front. Succubi, being one of the most intelligent races after Dragons among the demon tribes, are often expected to take on the role of commanders on the frontline. However, just having reasonable intelligence does not mean that one will always execute rational and efficient commands.

If a somewhat experienced warrior were leading the charge, they certainly wouldn’t foolishly send 5,000 Orcs to storm the gates guarded by a woman named Rose Caprice all at once.

The sight of Orcs densely packed at the gate, raising ladders and stealthily crawling up the walls was both terrifying and bizarre. When they shot arrows in resistance, they felt distant, but once they reached the walls, it felt as if they were an immortal army that wouldn’t die no matter how many times you killed them or reduced their numbers.

For a cowardly human, such a sight might send them into a panic and dampen their fighting spirit. But the 200 soldiers guarding the walls were neither cowardly nor lacking in resolve.

There were various reasons for this, but one undeniable reason was the presence of the Crown Princess, who stood firmly on the battlements. Rose kicked the fifth ladder that had climbed up, letting out a sigh.

“They’re using such foolish methods. Do they really believe this will work?”

“Not a chance, Your Highness! It’ll take them at least ten years to climb over this gate!”

One of the lieutenants thrust a spear into an Orc crawling up and shouted. Rose shook her head, tapping the lieutenant’s back.

“Don’t speak as if it’s possible to breach the wall in ten years. This war has already dragged on for over ten years.”

“Oh, I apologize, Your Highness! Those monsters won’t climb this wall even after a thousand years! By then, we’ll have completely annihilated them!”

“Yes, that’s the spirit.”

Rose drew her sword and began to move about the battlement, stabbing down Orcs trying to climb up and sending them plummeting downwards.

There were simply too many enemies, and even if she killed a few, it hardly made any difference in numbers. However, even the Orcs seemed to realize that this operation was not going as planned, hesitating in their ascension.

The Succubus in charge of the west also recognized that something was going wrong, but she lacked the experience and maturity to counter or adequately respond to the situation.

If her queen were to find out about this, she’d be furious enough to smash her face into the ground. Rose called one of her lieutenants as she saw the Orcs give up their ladders and begin banging violently on the gates.

“Take care of them as you will. I’ll handle the gate. Is there a decent knight down below?”

“There is, but you can’t possibly think of charging out there, can you?”

The lieutenant asked with concern. While many soldiers were aware of the ‘unyielding Crown Princess,’ they were not very familiar with having seen her fight in person.

Of course, that title was exaggerated. Rose had taken minor wounds when punched in the face by the Gargoyle Queen or bitten in the arm by a Red Dragon.

But Rose was a legendary warrior who could bite a dragon’s arm and take its breath straight on, and without hesitation, deliver a left hook that would make a dragon squeak in pain. It was unreasonable to be worried about her getting hurt while rushing into several thousand Orcs.

Rose was undeniably an incomprehensibly powerful being beyond human understanding. For a mere lieutenant who didn’t know much about her exploits, it was natural to worry for the well-being of the esteemed Crown Princess.

“I’ll be back shortly. Keep an eye out to see if any Succubi come flying in.”

“Well… I hear she rarely gets hurt, but please be careful not to get captured.”

That was advice worth taking to heart. No matter how invulnerable she was, it didn’t mean she couldn’t be captured. Even if Rose wasn’t easily killed as a captive, if multiple dragons were to focus their breath on her after binding her in stocks, she would surely die.

Rose didn’t want to face such a misfortunate event either. Walter often warned her, considering the possibility of capture over the chance of her being gravely injured.

“Oh, I’ll definitely be careful. But just watch me run. If there are any Orcs capable of blocking me and trying to tie me up, they’ll lose this war anyway. It doesn’t really matter what happens.”

The princess stuck her tongue out playfully and jumped down from the walls.

The soldiers guarding the locked gate were growing anxious, listening to the commotion of Orcs banging against the door right in front of them. Rose, riding a sleek black stallion she had managed to procure from somewhere, gradually approached the gate.

One of the gatekeepers, upon seeing Rose, opened his eyes wide and raised his head.

“Are you heading out, Your Highness? But if you open the door, they’ll rush in immediately. Do you really have to open it?”

“Don’t open it from outside in; open it from inside out. That way, the enemy won’t be able to get in.”

Rose spoke as if giving an incredibly simple command, like ‘use a fork to poke at your bread.’ Of course, for the soldiers listening, it was anything but simple.

“With all due respect, Your Highness. There are thousands of Orcs right outside. It’s not something a mere gatekeeper can push back.”

“Oh, I see. I misspoke. I’m truly sorry.”

Rose chuckled, lightly shrugging her shoulders to loosen up. As she moved slowly toward the gate, she placed one hand on each side of the door and turned to the gatekeepers.

“When I go outside the gate, close it right away. And when I return, just open it quickly. That is something you can do, right?”

“Your Highness, but how will you—”

“Like this!”

At the moment Rose exerted her strength, a massive shockwave burst forth as the gate flung wide open with a whoosh from the inside. The hundreds of Orcs tightly packed in front of the gate were tossed back, unable to withstand Rose’s power.

Just like a windshield wiper pushing away raindrops, the trajectory of the opened gate knocked away every demon creature within its radius in one go.

With a thunderous crash, the opened gate slammed shut again at lightning speed. The gatekeepers diligently followed Rose’s orders and locked the closed gate.

With a relaxed expression, Rose drew her sword from her waist and began her charge forward.

The soldiers on the battlements erupted in cheers for Rose. Whether it lent strength to her or not was unclear, but Rose’s charge was relentless and merciless.

That charge was akin to a tank rolling over a horde of cockroaches. The only way to survive was to dodge quickly and nimbly. Any fool who foolishly blocked Rose’s path, be they Orcs or Skeletons, met their end.

While the Empire’s princess couldn’t outpace the Elven Princess in dispatching foes looming from every direction, not even Margaret could dare to imitate the breakthrough strength of the armored knight on horseback.

She was not only the Walter Hellhound’s shield and armor but also wielded a spear. The surrounding demonkind could only blankly watch as Rose advanced toward their stronghold, much like watching a sports car zoom by on the highway or a train pass through without stopping at the station. There was no physical means of halting that charge. Even a skeleton without a brain could realize that fact with just a moment’s thought.

It wasn’t until Rose was a mere 70 meters away that the Succubus, who had effectively abandoned her command, grasped the situation.

“What, what? Is no one here? Why isn’t anyone stopping her? Stop her! Somebody stop her! She’s all alone!”

There was no one left to heed her command. In a last-ditch effort, the Succubus spread her short wings and tried to fly up, but Rose’s swordlight was just a tad quicker.

With a swift slice, the lieutenant’s head separated from her body. Without even glancing at the severed torso of the demon officer, Rose caught the blood-soaked head as it floated in the air.

If you only looked at the head, it was an oddity, just a regular human woman’s head with horns, which was a bit grotesque and repulsive, but to Rose, steeped in the pleasure of having just killed a demon officer, it was of no concern.

Once Rose halted her charge and turned her head, she looked to the wall and held the Succubus’s hair, lifting her neck high.

The soldiers, realizing that their Crown Princess had executed the enemy commander in a mad charge, cheered like crazy and waved Rose’s red flag. Clutching the hair, Rose spun the head around and then tossed it like a shot put into the midst of the demon army.

The moment the demon soldiers scattered and collapsed in horror at the sight of their commander’s head, they stumbled backward in fright.

Rose, facing the walls and not in a hurry, began to slowly advance forward with her horse.

This time there wasn’t the frenzied charge as before; however, the surrounding demonkind dared not raise their spears against Rose and gradually fell back.

To emphasize her ease, Rose sheathed her bloodied sword and continued onward among the demons. Her movement, at a walking pace, created a clear path for her.

Like Rose was their true master, and the princess was walking as if she were their people, the Orcs parted ways, giving Rose a clear route forward. The Crown Princess advanced slowly with a smile on her lips, as if mocking their appearance.

An impulsive Orc couldn’t bear to watch this and charged at Rose with a spear. Remembering how intimidating Rose was when she was on horseback and wounded by the Succubus Queen, that Orc seemed determined to kill at least her mount.

Rose grasped the spear point rushing toward her with her gloved hand and snapped it with a ‘snap.’

With the spearhead broken, the Orc had no choice but to blink in confusion like a fool. Rose hurled the remaining shaft toward the Orc’s face.

The Orc, with one of its eyes pierced by the spear shaft, spewed blood and collapsed face-first on the ground. The sight sent the demon soldiers into more panic, and they fled at least ten steps back, breaking in half.

Now, instead of a detour, the path opening before Rose resembled an actual highway. Clop, clop. The sound of hooves echoed as the Crown Princess reached the gates, disappearing into them without even looking back at the bothersome demonfolk.

Only then did the demonfolk, letting out a collective sigh of relief, begin to murmur together and retreat. It had been an utterly foolish command from an incompetent commander, and no Orc dared to attack that wall any further today.

Amidst the Orcs retreating over 200 meters from the gate, a commotion arose. Rose stood atop the battlements, fascinated by the chaos among the demonfolk. It seemed the demons were beginning to disagree on how to proceed with this futile assault.

As two Orcs started to punch each other, several others drew their swords and joined in the brawl. Though it couldn’t be seen clearly from a distance, a few had indeed been stabbed to death before the Orcs realized the futility of their fight and dropped their weapons.

“What a shame. If they had killed each other off a bit more, it would have made things easier for us.”

The lieutenant, who had been thrilled by Rose’s great success, commented. Rose shrugged her shoulders.

“After all, with just one swing of a sword, their heads would roll. Losing one or two more wouldn’t make much of a difference. Now, let’s see what the conclusion of this fight will be.”

The Orcs finally agreed to send an envoy to the Succubus Queen, requesting a new commander, debating whether to escape or continue attacking the fortress. After all, recklessly attacking the fortress would only lead to death, but ignoring the impatient commands of the Succubus Queen and fleeing wouldn’t yield a much different ending either.

Although the Orcs had managed to come up with a reasonable conclusion, a second battle awaited them that night.

Furious, the Succubus Queen would have been sufficient to vent her anger on the envoy delivering the dreadful results of the dreadful battle in the west.

Who would dare to take the head of the slain Succubus lieutenant and report it to her while requesting a new commander?

None of them wanted to bear such a heavy responsibility, and that night, the Orcs did not sleep, swinging their fists at each other.
