chapter 12
12. The Dragon-Slaying Blade, Click to Claim
With the arrival of Miss Nell, the maid who took care of Kefir’s daily life, the atmosphere, which was odd no matter how you looked at it, as if it were the secret base of a newlywed couple’s tiny house, was completely revitalized.
Nell truly deserved to be Kefir’s maid; within her seemingly frail body was energy as immense as her bust, effortlessly taking care of the cleaning, refreshing the walls and furniture, and after replacing the dim magic stone lights with new glowing ones, the whole room’s atmosphere became “healthier.”
Of course, there was no “benefit” tonight of “Kefir and I entangled in each other’s arms, sleeping soundly together.” This “stinky man” was sent to sleep on the sofa, while the small bed was left for Kefir and Nell. Just as I thought: I couldn’t just push Nell away because she might kill me according to the script, otherwise, given Kefir’s attitude towards Nell, I would definitely be the one kicked out.
So, to avoid any “power-up” incidents for Nell, the “protagonist with a vendetta as deep as the sea,” I decided to follow Nell as much as possible starting the next day!
The next day.
At this moment, within the town’s streets, at first glance, all seemed calm, but in reality, it was all danger to me!
“I really just went out to shop, and I’m very grateful that you insisted on coming along, Mr. Ogilid.”
Nell was quite surprised by my company, thanking me from the moment we left until now, almost slipping up and calling out my villainous name.
“It’s nothing, I’m just here to help, after all, we’re going to live together for a while. And besides, one can’t let a girl go out and carry heavy things alone.”
Of course, there was gentlemanly grace, but the most important reason I did this was just one: self-preservation. Nell’s protagonist template had reached the point where she could find legendary artifacts just by walking down the street, so I had to follow her at all times, “preventing” according to the script!
Nell, with stars twinkling in her eyes, said, “Thank you, you’re so kind—nothing like the bad guy rumored to be up to no good.”
Hahaha… Ah, I can’t even laugh, Miss Nell, if you really want to thank me, then please just go home and don’t leave the house, okay?
Before the words had settled, a cough came from Neru beside me.
“Cough, cough!”
As if deliberately emphasizing her presence to Neru and me, Kefir squeezed in between us, even giving me a glare.
“Charlatan.”
“Present!”
Your wish is my command! Through heaven and earth, over mountains of swords and seas of fire, I’ll spare no effort! I’ve got the confidence to handle the protagonist’s affairs!
But Kefir gave no such orders, merely nudging me with her elbow, pushing Neru and me further apart.
“Since you’re now my personal priest, I need to tell you: I’ll be living at the secret base for a while. If you’re hoping to get rich by being my personal priest, you’d better rein in those thoughts. I won’t be splurging.”
Her words sounded like a deliberate provocation. Do I serve as your priest for wealth? This is about turning over a new leaf, a prodigal son’s return! As for riches and beauties, I’ve never even considered them. After all, as the villain Ogelid, my life hangs by a thread, like a candle in the wind, with no room for such banal thoughts.
I’ve doubted this point too: in the script, Kefir, as the protagonist, belongs to the absolute “favored daughter of heaven” category. So why does her current behavior, aside from being very “protagonist-like,” seem no different from that of an ordinary girl?
“Miss, won’t you go back?”
“Not for now…”
Neru’s question and the fleeting shadow on Kefir’s face caught my attention, but before I could delve deeper, something I’ve been dreading since I learned of Neru’s script yesterday… indeed happened!
A hooded old man with a white beard, muttering to himself, appeared before us like a ghost, his gaze locked on Neru.
“Young lady, would you like…”
“Like hell!”
Before Neru could even retreat in fear, I had already stepped between the old man and her.
Neru’s script is too hasty! No need to search for magical treasures or secret manuals, they’re simply delivered by the white-bearded old man!
【Neru received a secret manual from the mysterious elder.】
Not to say that the script in my mind was supposed to be like this, but given the current situation, I’ve already figured out most of it! So, to save my life, I must intercept these “practice and level up, start with a dragon-slaying sword” event scripts before Neru accepts them!
“Young man, you…”
“Enough with the ‘you, me, him’! I don’t care what junk books or paintings you’re selling, we’re not a junkyard here, don’t bother her!”
After shooing away the old man with a mix of pushing and cajoling, I turned around to find that Neru and Kefir were now approached by an old lady with white hair!
“Little sister, doesn’t this sword smell wonderful? If you want it, granny will give it to you for free, along with a dozen supreme magic books…”
【Neru received a knife from the mysterious old lady that could stab Ogelid to death.】
They’re being too blunt about wanting me dead!
I hit the brakes hard and rushed back, squeezing past the frightened Neru and the old lady.
“Sorry, we don’t want it!”
Then, without worrying about whether grabbing Kefir and Neru’s delicate hands would earn me a slap from each, I pulled the still bewildered Kefir and Neru away, quickly leaving the suspicious elders’ sight!
And after reaching a quiet place, I finally took a long breath of relief.
Sigh…
Without knowing, one would be shocked to try. The “adventure” in Neru’s script is too straightforward! Two old people who look like “mysterious elders” simply chased after her, trying to stuff their treasure into Neru’s hands!
Fortunately, I was there to stop them this time.
While catching my breath, the two women, almost back to their senses, also looked over with different expressions.
Neru, still unaware of what she had just experienced, only had gratitude for me, so sincere that I felt a bit guilty.
“Mr. Ogelid… Thank you, thank you! To be honest, I really didn’t know how to deal with them, they follow me every day.”
“No worries at all, it’s a trifle. I’ll use ‘prophecy’ to drive them away for you, and they won’t bother you casually in the future.”
But the look from Kefir was a bit off.
“Ogelid, your ‘prophecy’ is really good for Neru.”
Hmm, why is there a hint of sourness?
“That… it’s all about helping each other, Kefir, don’t think too much, okay?”
“I’m not…”
But your answer is just like a jealous girl’s standard response! Please spare me, if you’re upset and won’t let me cling to you, I might not even survive tonight!
“It’s true! I’m just helping Neru get rid of trouble. Right, right! How about you teach me how to use the contract you made on me when we go back tonight?”
Kefir’s attitude finally softened a bit.
“Depends on my mood.”
Sigh…
The danger of clinging has been resolved.
Although it was a bit thrilling, having to be on guard even when going up the street, at least my script doesn’t have any “death endings” for now.
Hopefully, it will continue like this, without any “accidents”…
“Uh, Mr. Ogelid, there seems to be another strange old man ahead…”
Not again!?
