Chapter 18: Got a Blue Card! Open it?
The criminal was driven away? Who did it?
The police? The military? Or one of those mysterious agencies?
"According to witnesses, the criminal was pulled off his glider by something resembling spider webs during his escape. So people are speculating that it was likely Spider-Man."
"Spider-Man? The so-called friend of women?"
Captain George was still trying to wrap his head around it. Why would a women's ally suddenly take on supervillains?
One of his officers pointed to the bleachers where Mary Jane had been. "Apparently, the criminal was about to attack a girl there, so…"
"Alright, guess he really is a friend of women!"
Captain George understood now. That made sense.
Spider-Man wasn't specifically targeting supervillains; he was just saving a girl and happened to encounter one.
With this explanation, Captain George felt a bit better. At least that guy wasn't deliberately trying to steal his job.
Meanwhile, the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents who had rushed to the scene weren't as relieved.
"Spider-Man? Is he a superhero like Iron Man? A superhero appeared in New York, and we didn't know?"
Coulson listened to the nearby officers' chatter and asked his agents with a frown.
The agents exchanged uneasy glances. They'd been preoccupied with the Green Goblin case, too busy to focus on smaller city matters. Besides, the police hadn't reported anything, so it was understandable they didn't know.
"The Green Goblin has made another move. We can't keep reacting passively like this. We need to request backup and take the initiative!"
"Also, assign a few people to investigate Spider-Man. If he's confirmed to be a superpowered human, report it to Director Fury immediately."
A woman in a baseball cap stepped forward and reminded, "Sir, don't forget about the Iron Head guy I mentioned earlier."
Coulson nodded. "Right, handle both cases. You're in charge!"
"Yes, sir!"
…..
When Su Ye returned to Gwen's rooftop, the coat he had tossed to her was still warm.
Well, it wasn't his residual warmth but Gwen's body heat, as she had been holding it tightly.
"Hey! It's done, I'm back!"
Su Ye landed, removed his mask, and greeted Gwen with a smile.
On the other side, Gwen threw caution to the wind, rushing forward and hugging his head tightly.
"Mmph!"
Su Ye never expected his first time to be so passive.
As a superman, this wouldn't do—he had to fight back!
After a full minute, Gwen was nearly suffocating before Su Ye finally let go.
"You're not hurt, are you?"
After catching her breath, Gwen's slightly dazed mind cleared, and she began inspecting Su Ye's body.
Su Ye shook his head, showing off his strength as he calmly recounted the events.
"So, don't think that superheroes are like boxers in a ring, always fighting hand-to-hand. Sometimes, brains matter too!"
"Your brains are impressive? Class Rank: Second!" Gwen teased with a pouty smile.
"Oh, you're not done teasing me, huh?"
Su Ye lunged forward, grabbed Gwen, and tickled her mercilessly. Before they knew it, they were stuck together again.
This time, it lasted a full two minutes.
Young hearts and passions—just a spark was enough to ignite them.
They had planned to discuss superheroes on the rooftop but found it impossible to focus.
Their conversation kept turning into something else.
Thankfully, the setting was inappropriate; otherwise, Captain George might have been welcoming a grandchild next year.
Eventually, it got too late, and they headed downstairs.
By the time Su Ye was ready to leave, Captain George still hadn't returned.
"Looks like I'll have to save that tea with the Captain for next time."
Su Ye joked with Gwen and left with a smile.
Back home late at night, Su Ye didn't go to bed. Instead, he turned on his computer to search for martial arts schools online.
Today marked his first encounter with a supervillain.
While bragging to Gwen, he claimed his wits led to a strategic victory.
But deep down, he knew that "strategy" was just a substitute to cover his inadequacies, a mental crutch.
Raw power trumps all strategies—if he could overpower them, there'd be no need for clever tactics; he'd just go head-on.
Just like when he kicked Thompson across the schoolyard.
Not only was it satisfying, but it was also a permanent solution. Look how well-behaved Thompson is now.
As Spider-Man, the quickest way to power up would be to acknowledge Iron Man as a mentor and ride the high-tech wave.
But there was no way he'd ever seek a mentor—never in this lifetime.
Besides, even if he tried, Tony Stark in his current state wouldn't easily take on a protégé.
So, Su Ye's next best option was to learn martial arts.
Be it Kung Fu, Taekwondo, Karate, Jiu-Jitsu, or boxing—he was willing to try them all.
As long as it improved his combat skills, it was worth it.
Soon, Su Ye found several martial arts schools online, covering various styles. He noted a few with good reviews and affordable prices, then went to bed.
It was nearing midnight on Saturday, and after 12, a white girlfriend card would arrive.
Su Ye was no longer the newbie who got overly excited with his first gray card, dreaming of pulling an elder sister or a little sister. Not even a white card, let alone a green one, stirred much excitement anymore—unless he had ten of them.
Right at midnight, Su Ye was jolted awake by a notification.
Ding! [Spider-Man Event "Outsmarting the Green Goblin" completed. Reward: Girlfriend Card (Blue★)]
(Note: ★ Card increases the chance of drawing high-quality cards.)
Why didn't the school bully Thompson's defeat trigger a card quality boost? Was that loser too insignificant?
Unfortunately, it wasn't clear whether high-quality girlfriend cards were tied to following the original plot or could result from altering it.
The doubt passed quickly as Su Ye's eyes lit up at the card description.
A blue card!
He could have synthesized blue cards before—ten green cards could yield three blues—but single draws lacked miracles, and triple draws weren't guaranteed, so he never bothered.
This was his first time holding a blue card.
The "★" marking and notes suggested this was no ordinary card—perhaps one that might actually deliver.
So, should he open it now?
Or wait to collect ten blue cards for a mass opening?
Su Ye was instantly torn.
The ★ Card only mentioned a higher chance of high-quality cards, not a guaranteed pull.
But gathering nine more blue cards would take nearly five months—far too long.
Su Ye gritted his teeth and made his choice—he'd open it now.
Five months was too long; seize the moment!
