chapter 4
4 – This atmosphere is really hard to adapt to…
It has been four days since I returned to the modern world.
Jihun diligently attended the academy classes without missing a day.
The academy classes were more beneficial than he had expected.
They provided him with the opportunity to review things that he had forgotten since returning to the modern world, such as the geographical knowledge of various gates and the characteristics of monsters.
In fact, if only combat ability was considered, Jihun would have been on par with anyone in the academy.
He might have had more combat experience than anyone in the modern world.
Jihun had survived numerous dangers in the martial arts world, where his life was constantly threatened.
His self-taught martial arts and the abilities he gained through intense training were far superior to the abilities of the academy students who had only awakened momentarily and received some training.
However, one-on-one battles between humans and humans, or wars with sorcerers, were all battles between individuals.
There was a significant difference between battles between humans and humans and battles between hunters and monsters or hunters and hunters.
In the modern society, threats came from mindless monsters or some evil hunters who came out through gates, not from sorcerers.
For the past four days, Jihun had felt the difference between the martial arts world where he had been for ten years and the modern world.
However, he soon realized one thing.
The martial arts and physical abilities he had honed as a martial artist could be useful and powerful even in this modern world.
And as a hunter, he had not yet made any progress, as he was still at the lowest level.
Knowing that his hunter abilities were at the bottom level did not give Jihun a sense of self-pity or despair.
It meant that there was infinite potential for growth.
Jihun had already reached a high level as a martial artist, having overcome numerous life-threatening situations in the martial arts world.
His desire to become stronger made him see his low-level hunter abilities as a potential.
And there was also Yeonhwa.
To meet Yeonhwa again, Jihun knew that he had to improve his hunter abilities and raise his skill level.
For a few more days, Jihun made up his mind to explore various things in order to adapt to this world again.
The fact that he had to survive and Yeonhwa. Those were the only things that had occupied Jihun’s ten years of time, leaving him with a sense of reality in the modern world.
“But… I just can’t adapt to this…”
In Jihun’s eyes, he could see four men surrounding him.
“Hey, say something, you bastard! You killed a King Goblin, right? Teach us the secret technique.”
“Why is this guy acting all spaced out? Looks like he lost his mind at the gate.”
“Hey, quit it! What’s up with this bastard killing a King Goblin and deceiving all the 11th-class rookies?”
Do Yeonghwan, a level E hunter of the 10th class. His cronies were surrounding Jihun, provoking him.
End-of-month evaluations or quarterly assessments were mechanisms that endlessly lined up academy students.
As each class had varying levels of subsidies and different access to advanced weapons and books, all academy students engaged in competitive relationships, striving to ascend to a higher class.
Therefore, when rumors spread about a student making a remarkable impression in the lowest class, Class 11, it swiftly swept through the academy.
Moreover, the protagonist was Jihoon, deemed the weakest even within Class 11. Doh Young-hwan from Class 10 was leading those groups and was present here.
“Hey, are you deaf? Why is a guy who can take down boss monsters in one hit feeling regretful about being in Class 11?” Doh Young-hwan’s sneer was increasingly evident, and the group following him filled the classroom with stifled laughter.
Other Class 11 students in the same room pretended not to notice, engaging in their own conversations, while some, instead, joined in mocking Doh Young-hwan and his group.
“The B-team guys didn’t even notice what kind of attack it was, apparently. I was curious, too.”
“Exactly. How impressive of a hunter is he if he took down a boss monster without even lifting a finger? hahahahaha.”
“He sliced its throat with a sword. It’s not like he didn’t lift a finger.”
Having been apprehensive due to the unclear situation, Jihoon, who had been looking around throughout, answered after gathering his thoughts to some extent.
“Oh, damn, you weren’t mute, huh? But why aren’t you speaking normally?”
Doh Young-hwan stepped forward from the group, meeting Jihoon’s gaze as he sat with his head bowed.
“You asked for a ‘secret,’ right? What secret? I just sliced it, that’s all.”
At Jihoon’s words, the four Class 10 students around him widened their eyes, exchanged glances, and then burst into laughter.
“What? hahahahaha… this crazy guy… hahahahaha.”
“He’s so blunt, huh? Just sliced it…hahahahaha.”
“Wow, this guy’s really hilarious. Hey, was this his original character?”
Unable to contain his laughter, Doh Young-hwan asked the other Class 11 students who were also watching from the side.
“W-We… we’re not close with him, so we don’t really know.”
“No one here is interested in him.”
“Yeah, that’s right.”
‘Was my social life really this pitiful? Was I always this inadequate?’
Jihoon sighed internally. He was someone who needed to adapt not just to the modern world but also to his own position from ten years ago.
“Hey, you guys, stop it and leave. What are you doing, seriously?”
Among the Class 11 students in Jihoon’s eyes, he saw a long-haired girl with large eyes.
“Oh, Han Sooyoung, right? You’re right after this guy, almost at the bottom.”
“W-What’s that got to do with you?”
The name of the girl defending Jihoon was Han Sooyoung. She was a second-last place student in Class 11, specializing in healing as a Grade C healer but having awakened only minor healing skills and slight stamina recovery.
“Oh, they’re so cozy with each other. Are you his girlfriend?”
“What… What are you talking about? I mean, why are you bothering someone who’s just standing there? Do you know it’s a violation of academy rules?”
“Yeah, we’re just messing with these low-class 11th graders. Are they in elementary school? Should I call the teacher?”
With his head turned toward Hansuyoung, Doyounghwan’s mockery was now directed at someone else in front of Jihoon.
“What’s wrong with asking this nerd for some tips on how to conquer the gate?”
Doyounghwan poked Jihoon’s shoulder, as if urging him to agree.
Snap.
…
“Ahhhhh!! Ahh!! My wrist! Ahhh!”
Just before Doyounghwan’s hand could touch Jihoon’s shoulder, Jihoon’s hand swiftly caught his wrist and twisted it, breaking it in an instant.
Still holding the broken wrist, Jihoon stood up.
“First, the wrist that holds the sword. That strong wrist strength is crucial.”
“Ahh! Let go! You bastard, let go!!! Ahhh!”
Doyounghwan’s broken wrist was still in Jihoon’s grip, and he was writhing in pain.
“And shoulder strength. You can’t neglect shoulder strength when swinging the sword quickly.”
Jihoon swung his arm smoothly.
With Doyounghwan’s wrist as the center, his body floated along the direction of Jihoon’s swinging arm and then crashed to the ground.
Doyounghwan’s wrist was still in Jihoon’s grip.
“Ahh! Ahh!”
After the broken wrist, his shoulder dislocated, causing Doyounghwan to scream uncontrollably.
Tried to endure it somehow, but Doyounghwan could only continue to scream like a madman.
The three 10th graders who had come with him were frozen, not even thinking of rushing in to help, as they witnessed this horrifying scene unfold before their eyes.
“If your wrist and shoulder are this weak, you won’t be able to slit the King Goblin’s throat like I did.”
Finally letting go of Doyounghwan’s wrist, which was soaked in tears and snot and pressed against the ground, Jihoon’s upper body gradually leaned forward.
“Sorry, but I didn’t even know your name. I don’t think we’re in the same class… What class are you from?”
In contrast to the earlier situation, Jihoon lowered his head, calmly making eye contact with Doyounghwan, who was fuming.
“You… You bastard! My shoulder… My wrist… You’re dead! Hey! What are you all doing? Crush this bastard!”
Hearing Doyounghwan’s shouts, the three 10th graders hesitated for a moment, then surrounded Jihoon once again, assuming a combat stance. That’s when…
“Do you like killing? Or maybe… something soft like that…”
“What… What the hell are you talking about?”
Ji-hoon grabs a handful of Doyoung-hwan’s hair, which is stuck to the floor, and tilts his head back before striking his face with his palm.
“Sob.. sob..”
Tears and mucus covered Doyoung-hwan’s mouth and nose, but this time, red blood begins to flow, and soon he loses consciousness.
From Doyoung-hwan’s fallen mouth, white things that appear to be his teeth come out.
“Without teeth, you can only eat soft things like porridge. I can’t stand it when people who talk too much can’t keep their mouths shut…”
Leaving Doyoung-hwan, who is bleeding and collapsed, behind, Ji-hoon stands up and looks at the other three while Han Soo-young, who is standing beside him, is unable to close her mouth.
“Oh… but what about the rules? Can’t we hit them?”
