Ch 35
Waste Zerg
Seeing the opponent finally subdued, He Yi put away his axe and continued forward. Sparse groups of players began to appear, each typically with one male Zerg paired with several females. Occasionally, curious male Zergs glanced his way.
Since He Yi hadn’t altered his character’s appearance, they seemed to recognize him, but his stern expression discouraged anyone from approaching.
Soon, he arrived at the gates of Bullhorn Town, where players were gathering along the blue-stone street lined with quaint, vintage-style buildings. After everyone assembled, a chime rang out.
[System Notice: The game is about to begin! Brave players, pick up your weapons and fight the Auger Tribe to the death!]
[Defend our homeland, a duty for every Zerg!]
The sky faded to a brilliant white as gray mushroom clouds rose and disappeared, leaving crimson flames. Smoke billowed, and the first Auger minion formed. Cape spotted it, exclaiming, “Hey, bro, this monster’s not even ugly!”
He Yi nodded. Apart from the red skin and a meter-long tail hook, the Augers were among the game’s more handsome monsters, with striking facial features.
Moments later, the handsome Auger fell to a female Zerg’s blade, dissolving into reddish-brown liquid, which soon became a small item fragment. The female Zerg collected the fragment and approached a male Zerg, surrounded by a dozen other females, and handed it to him.
The male Zerg glanced at it disdainfully.
“Get it away, filthy,” he said.
“Hurry up! My time is valuable, and wasting it here on this junk game is ridiculous!”
The female’s eyes dimmed, and he turned away with the fragment.
He Yi recognized the male Zerg, Vice President Robert, thanks to his photographic memory.
Clearly, Robert had also seen them. His expression shifted instantly to one of enthusiasm as he approached, surrounded by female Zergs. “Lord He Yi, you’re here too?”
With a gleam in his eye, he continued warmly, “Where’s your female Zerg? Why are you carrying this heavy axe yourself? What a mistake! Let my female Zerg help you with it.”
Robert’s obvious flattery made He Yi feel a bit uncomfortable. He couldn’t forget the pride in Robert’s eyes during their first meeting, when he had teamed up with President Howard to openly slander He Yi’s female Zerg. What had caused this 180-degree change in attitude?
Logically, they were both vice presidents now, so there was no need for Robert to act this way. Moreover, he had always been eager to flatter the president. There must be some reason He Yi was unaware of. He remained composed and replied, “No need; I can handle it myself.”
He turned slightly to avoid a female Zerg trying to take the axe from his hands.
Despite He Yi’s coldness, Robert’s enthusiasm didn’t wane. He then joked with Cape, “Little Cape, why didn’t you greet your uncle?”
“I even visited you when you were in a coma before you got promoted to S-level; why are you ignoring me now?”
Cape felt a shiver at the remark.
“Hmph, call me Big Cape! I’m also an S-level now; you, an A-level male Zerg, aren’t worthy of my attention!”
Thinking back to Robert’s sinister face from childhood made him feel nauseous. He had been a clueless C-level Zerg then. During a visit, he had seen Robert in his backyard, tugged at his pants, and sweetly asked for candy. Instead, Robert had kicked him away without hesitation, darkly warning, “You’re a C-level waste; you don’t deserve to live.”
Even after such a long time, he still clearly remembered the ruthless kick that had struck his chest and the cold malice in the other’s eyes. That was the shadow of his childhood.
It was also that day he threw a tantrum and ran out of the villa, crying away from home. In that life-threatening ordeal, he had encountered his lifelong savior, his life-saving Zerg—Lan. So now he felt extremely uncomfortable. No matter where he was, as long as he saw that person, he would immediately dodge.
Today was the second time in so many years that they faced each other.
But he was no longer the weak, pitiful, crybaby Cape he used to be.
Thinking of this, he slightly raised his chin and mocked with a smirk, “C-level waste doesn’t deserve to live; A-level waste doesn’t deserve a glance. Am I right, Robert, uncle?”
A shadow passed over Robert’s eyes.
“You are right; I should now address you as Lord Cape.” He still smiled, but the smile didn’t reach his eyes.
Cape suddenly felt a thrill of revenge. The shadow that had long loomed over him seemed to have vanished. So this is the comfort that comes from slapping someone in the face?
However, just a few seconds into his delight, He Yi yanked him by the collar and pulled him forward, nearly making him stumble.
“Brother, what’s wrong?” he asked, confused.
He Yi expressionlessly severed the neck of a nearby Auger tribe monster. He had calculated the angle perfectly, causing the monster’s blood to splatter onto Robert’s face.
From their earlier conversation, it was easy to tell that Cape had been bullied by Robert in the past. Although Cape was a bit foolish, he was essentially a good Zerg; how could he allow anyone to bully his recently acknowledged little brother? Moreover, this Zerg had also spoken ill of Ah Zhao.
A small act of revenge, not meant to be taken seriously.
He Yi held the axe in his right hand while pulling Cape with his left. He glanced back at Robert’s darkening expression, which looked like it might drip water, and walked away with large strides.
After moving a considerable distance, He Yi lifted Cape’s tightly clenched fist and pried apart his fingers one by one. His expression was displeased. “Are you really that afraid of him? What a waste.”
Cape was exposed. After feeling awkward, he let it all out. “Brother, don’t believe him; he’s really bad! He kicked me when I was a kid! All he cares about is power. It’s only a matter of time before you rise to the position of president based on your bloodline! He’s just trying to curry favor with you early! Hmph!”
“With his qualifications, climbing to the position of vice president would require plenty of flattery.”
He Yi frowned slightly. “Robert’s scheme is probably going to fall flat.” This was because he had no interest in the president’s position and couldn’t give Robert the power he wanted.
Cape chuckled, grinning slyly. “Hey, brother, once you become president, just fire him!”
This guy seemed to misunderstand. But He Yi just patted his shoulder, letting him enjoy himself.
As the number of monsters increased, they couldn’t chat anymore. He Yi focused on chopping down monsters. No matter how far he walked, he kept hacking at the same spot; this was a collective task, and each player’s surroundings would automatically refresh with monsters, maintaining a steady number. After a while, a vacuum zone appeared around them, and the monsters stopped respawning.
He led Cape into the aquarium on the left side of the street, where the doors were wide open. Their team’s task had already been completed, so they needed to find something else to pass the time. The oddly shaped marine creatures piqued his interest.
He tossed his axe at the entrance.
Through the thick glass, those nameless marine creatures emitted a faint glow. Their bright colors swam in the water, and the emptiness from the emotional release was soothed at that moment. It was truly magical.
“Brother, do you like these little things?” Cape leaned in.
“Yeah, they’re pretty cute.” He Yi reached out to interact with the fish through the glass.
It was also quite tragic; in his past life, while living at his aunt’s house, he had gone to amusement parks and visited zoos and aquariums. These were all dreams from his childhood. At that time, he vowed that once he became independent, he would earn money to fulfill that dream. But who could have predicted which would come first, tomorrow or an accident? After the college entrance examination, the apocalypse arrived. That ridiculous childhood dream was thus permanently shelved.
Thinking about it, he had fulfilled that dream in this manner.
“That’s great! I have a planet where over ninety percent is ocean. When we go back, I’ll transfer it to you!” Cape clapped in admiration.
His eyebrows danced with excitement. “The A Level Zerg managing my finances even mentioned that the marine life there ranks among the best in the entire galaxy!”
“No need to go through all that trouble; just grant me the viewing rights to the planet.” He Yi chuckled lightly.
“That works too.” Cape pouted. “Why are you always so polite?”
Even though he was born a C-level little male Zerg, his family background was extraordinary, and he had been pampered while growing up. So, most of his male Zerg friends around him were trying to befriend him because of his family background, hoping to gain something from him. He had long since gotten used to this way of making friends.
Now it seemed he had latched onto a golden thigh, but that golden thigh didn’t accept his gifts.
Cape poked the glass in frustration.
He Yi pretended to clench his fist, tilting his head with a smile. “What? Do you want me to be rude?”
Cape instinctively shrank his neck. “Okay, good brother, I was just joking.”
He corrected himself, “Still, being polite is best. Perfect~”
He Yi was taken aback by the term “good brother” and said angrily, “Be serious. You say you’re no longer a kid, so why are you still so childish?”
While they were talking, two players entered through the door. They were facing away from the entrance and didn’t notice. They only turned around when a sickly sweet voice came from behind them.
A sub-female walked over gracefully, “Your Excellency, what a coincidence to see you here again.”
He Yi twitched his mouth. It was too flirtatious.
He took a step back. “Unfortunately, we were just about to leave.”
After saying that, he pulled Cape and walked towards the entrance after a few steps.
“Hey, brother, I haven’t finished looking yet!” Cape wanted to turn around to see the beautifully colored fish, complaining softly.
“What are you looking at? Hurry up! Do you still want to go on a honeymoon trip?” He Yi shot him a sideways glance and whispered.
“Is there… a connection between the two?” Cape scratched his head, confused.
He Yi glared at him, frustrated. “Of course there is! It’s a big deal! If General Lan finds out you’re close to a beautiful sub-female, won’t that ruin your trip?”
Upon hearing this, Cape instantly lost interest in the marine creatures. He hurried his steps, looking serious. “That won’t do! Let’s hurry!”
He moved as if he were on fire. When they reached the door, he stumbled and nearly fell.
Only after their figures disappeared did Xila step out from the shadowy corner.
After scanning the area, he closed the aquarium’s main door.
