Ch 18
Loving Zergs
He Yi slowly swallowed the pastry in his mouth, thinking to himself that this smiling tiger was good at telling blatant lies. He stood up and greeted him.
“President Howard, it’s been a while.”
Howard responded with a smile, “Everything’s fine.”
He turned his head to look at General Zhao, who was standing nearby, but saw no emotion on his face. Finding this uninteresting, he pursed his lips and took a seat on the sofa across from He Yi, holding his wine glass.
As soon as he sat down, the four female Zergs across from him all knelt down in succession. The only one still standing was a female Zerg wearing a general’s insignia on their shoulder.
Before attending the meeting, He Yi had familiarized himself with the military. The military consisted of three major corps, with Marshal Sen as the overall commander. The First Corps was controlled by old noble families, with General Wei as its leader. The Second Corps served as the personal guard of the Emperor and the Male Protection Association, led by General Luo. The Third Corps was the domain of commoners and the newly emerged nobility, led by General Zhao.
The one standing across from him was General Luo, the leader of the Second Corps and President Howard’s female lord.
It’s common for friction to occur between corps, and from what He Yi knew, General Luo had never gotten along with General Zhao and the Third Corps.
This situation… definitely seemed ominous.
He Yi pulled out a handkerchief to wipe his mouth, calmly waiting for their next move.
Just then, a sub-female server passed by carrying a tray. With just a glance from President Howard, General Luo understood and took a glass of red wine from the tray, bowing as he handed it to He Yi.
“Mr. He Yi, care for a drink?” President Howard asked with a smile, raising his own glass.
He Yi nodded in thanks, took the glass, and raised it toward Howard in acknowledgment. “Thank you, President,” he said before taking a sip.
Howard lightly swirled the wine in his glass. “How are you finding things? This is your first time at such a gathering, isn’t it?”
“It’s fine,” He Yi replied coolly.
Howard chuckled, his interest piqued as he glanced at Zhao standing nearby. “What a coincidence. My female lord and your servant are both generals, yet their sense of timing is worlds apart. Could it be that your general is deliberately embarrassing you by relying on his rank?”
Zhao’s heart tightened at these words.
He Yi responded calmly, “President, you’re overthinking it.”
“Am I? I thought General Zhao was standing there like a wooden post to make you lose face.”
“See? My female lord only needs a look to know what to do. That’s the reaction of a truly qualified female Zerg.” Howard leaned back on the sofa with a satisfied sigh.
Zhao clenched his fists, unable to refute the words. He indeed wasn’t up to par, causing his lord to lose face.
Seeing that Zhao was being bullied into silence, He Yi felt anger rising in his heart.
Feigning a sigh, He Yi said, “Well, what can I do? He’s still young. There’s plenty of time in the future; I can teach him slowly. I wonder, President, how long did it take for your female lord to learn to be so ‘qualified’? Ten years? Twenty? A hundred?”
Before Howard could respond, He Yi continued, “Anyway, there’s no rush. We’ll take it slow. After all, which female Zerg hasn’t had their wild and reckless days in youth? Wouldn’t you agree, President?”
President Howard, who was over 700 years old, and General Luo, who was nearly 500, were both successfully rendered speechless by He Yi.
Fortunately, President Howard was a seasoned individual who had weathered many storms. After a brief silence, he took a slow sip of his red wine and leisurely replied, “So, it turns out Your Excellency prefers younger military females. What a coincidence—I happen to have a young, accomplished, and handsome major general.”
“Yi, come forward and let His Highness have a good look at you.”
As soon as the words left his mouth, one of the tall military females kneeling to the left of the sofa started moving forward on their knees. With a soft and gentle expression that was unlike the typical sternness of a military female, this individual resembled a delicate and soft sub-female figure more than anything else, especially when ignoring their height.
This military female named Yi approached on their knees, just about to bow when He Yi quickly turned to avoid the traditional foot-kissing gesture. “There’s no need.”
President Howard handed his wine glass to a nearby sub-female figure and, half-closing his eyes, continued to persuade, “Are you sure you don’t want to try? Military females trained by the Male Protection Association are much more comfortable to use, and… they know all sorts of ways to please you. They can do anything you want.” His tone was eerily similar to that of a wolf coaxing a little rabbit.
True to his reputation, President Howard managed to make such unspeakable things sound so polished. But He Yi was no naïve rabbit; he wouldn’t be so easily swayed. He shook his head, declining, “No need.”
Howard had expected this refusal. The well-dressed president pretended to nod in agreement, “Indeed, Major General Yi doesn’t have the distinguished military accomplishments of General Zhao, but you could keep him around as a little distraction, especially when the general is busy with military affairs. He would be quite useful.”
Zhao lowered his gaze, clenching his teeth tightly.
Damn Howard! How dare he try to steal his man right in front of him! And by praising one while belittling the other!
Glancing at Zhao, whose anger was nearly palpable, He Yi sighed inwardly. His plan to keep a low profile had failed.
Initially, the combination of a SS female Zerg and an S-class male Zerg was already eye-catching enough. But now, with the addition of a high-profile Male Protection Association president and a corps commander, their secluded corner had become the center of attention at the banquet.
In fact, it was no secret that the Male Protection Association had long suppressed married military females from the Third Corps through male Zergs. But the inherent desire of female Zergs to serve males and their instinctual drive to reproduce had led them to silently endure this oppression.
So, when President Howard approached His Highness He Yi, many expected General Zhao to receive a scolding. Some Zergs watched with schadenfreude, while others were worried.
He Yi scanned the area with his spiritual power and noticed an increasing number of prying eyes. His gaze turned icy: if staying low-key wasn’t an option, then he might as well go all out!
He Yi patted his knee, “Ah Zhao, come here.”
Zhao was momentarily stunned before he dumbly walked over and lightly sat on He Yi’s lap, careful not to put his full weight down.
He Yi handed the wine glass to Zhao. “Feed me.” He subtly mouthed a name.
It was the name of the protagonist from *Love of the Substitute*. Zhao instantly understood—his lord wanted him to…
His porcelain-white cheeks immediately flushed with a soft pink, like peach blossoms.
After only a few seconds of hesitation, Zhao slightly tilted his head back, downed the rich, rose-colored wine in one gulp, then wrapped his arm around He Yi’s neck and pressed his lips to his lord’s.
It was a kiss that was both refreshing and sweet.
After the kiss, Zhao stood up and stepped back, returning to his place beside the sofa. He lifted his sleeve to wipe away a few drops of red wine that had dripped from his lips down to his chin. A smile lingered on his face, his eyes shimmering with a mix of obedience and an irresistible charm.
He Yi squinted his eyes contentedly and looked up at President Howard across from him. “Having Zhao is enough for me. Wine fed to me by a future female lord general…”
“Tastes the best.” He tapped his finger lightly on his lips.
He Yi: Showing off love is the best way to deal with unwanted admirers! Yay!
President Howard’s face twitched as he felt the increasing attention from those around them. His forced smile was becoming hard to maintain. “In that case, I won’t disturb Your Excellency any further.”
With that, he quickly stood up and left.
He Yi’s response had caught everyone off guard.
No one expected that in the end, it would be President Howard who conceded, while General Zhao received the favor and affection of His Highness!
As everyone was still processing this shocking turn of events, a male Zerg in a military uniform walked straight toward General Zhao. Those who recognized this male exchanged glances: more drama was about to unfold!
The military male walked past He Yi and raised an eyebrow at Zhao. “General, how have you been lately?”
Zhao simply nodded and hummed in response, showing no extra emotion.
The military male wasn’t deterred by this and pretended to be sorrowful. “You really fooled me, didn’t you—”
He Yi, drawn by his exaggerated expression and drawn-out tone, turned his head to size up this military male.
The military male put on a show of being heartbroken and betrayed. “You once told me you’d never marry anyone, but now that an innate S-class male has appeared, you rushed right over to him!”
He paused for effect, then suddenly seemed to realize something and slapped his forehead in mock realization, speaking in a tone filled with righteous indignation: “Oh, I see! You look down on us ordinary males, don’t you? You should have told me sooner!”
Zhao’s heart skipped a beat. He glanced nervously at his lord’s expression, racking his brain but unsure how to explain himself.
It wasn’t just the male’s genetic level that attracted him; it was also his appearance, his voice, his gentleness…
The more Zhao thought about it, the more panicked he became. What if… his lord thought he was the type to scorn the poor and love the rich?
Noticing the shifting expressions on Zhao’s face and his sneaky glances, He Yi lazily got up and walked over to wrap his arm around Zhao’s not-so-soft waist. “This—”
He glanced at the shoulder insignia of the military male and continued, “This major, you got one thing wrong.”
“What’s wrong?” the major asked, turning his head in confusion.
“Zhao didn’t approach me first; I was the one who made the first move,” He Yi said as he gently stroked the crescent moon mark on Zhao’s forehead. “I fell in love with Zhao at first sight, and then…”
“I marked him immediately.” He Yi’s eyes and lips were filled with a playful smile.
Unexpectedly, the female blushed and shook his head, denying it: “No, I was the one who seduced the lord.” On Zerg Star, it was considered extremely shameful for a male to pursue anyone, and he would not allow any Zerg to tarnish the lord’s reputation.
He Yi’s hand, which was gently stroking the crescent mark, paused. He was almost amused by this; he tried to stand up for the female, only to be contradicted on the spot.
He pressed his tongue against his cheek and switched the topic, “But, Major, there’s one thing you said that is quite true—Zhao really doesn’t care for ordinary males.”
Upon hearing this, Zhao’s palms broke out in a light sweat, and his lips moved, but he didn’t speak.
The male major nodded with a sense of pride.
Exactly, a proud and unruly female like General Zhao should be made to reveal his true nature, to learn a lesson from the male, and from then on, to be completely obedient…
Unexpectedly, He Yi curled his lips into a smile and said, “What he’s interested in is—someone as extraordinary as me.”
“As the saying goes, ‘every pot has its lid.'”
The implication: You lowlifes, you’re not worthy!
The male major’s face instantly turned ashen.
In Zhao’s mind, fireworks exploded, and his mood improved as he smirked slightly, “Major Zoen, what I meant back then was—I wouldn’t marry an or-di-nary male like you.”
The emphasis on “ordinary” was unmistakable.
Seeing his female taunting another Zerg, He Yi wasn’t displeased; in fact, he found it rather intriguing. This genuine and lively side of the female had a unique charm, making him like him even more.
“You—” The “ordinary” Major Zoen gripped his wine glass tightly, his eyes nearly ablaze with fury.
After losing control of his expression for a moment, he quickly regained his composure and sarcastically remarked:
“Your Excellency He Yi, surely you don’t actually believe that a female who has been dedicated to his career for decades is merely attracted to your genetic level?”
