Chapter 225
A few days ago…
“Why…?”
When I asked Nam Da-un to become the Physical Education Chairperson, he looked at me with a genuinely confused expression.
“Well, you’re from the sports club, right?”
At my words, Nam Da-un pressed his finger against the bridge of his nose.
“So just because I’m from the sports club, you want me to be the Physical Education Chairperson? Isn’t that the Student Council’s job?”
“Yes, it is the Student Council’s job.”
“I’m not doing it.”
I knew he would respond that way. He didn’t seem to enjoy taking on roles like this at all. After all, as a member of the soccer team, he always wore his school uniform shirt and pants every time I saw him. He seemed to train properly and obviously had talent, but strangely enough, he was a very indifferent person when it came to everything.
I got up from the ground. I hadn’t run in a while, and it was incredibly exhausting. I’ve gained weight, and without movement, it felt like all the exercise I’d done before was pointless.
Well, at least I could run much better now than when I first started. My level of exhaustion improved significantly too.
I sat up on the polyurethane floor. If I had been sitting here under the blazing sun outside, I wouldn’t have been able to sit like this. The polyurethane would have become unbearably hot under the sunlight. Fortunately, this school had money to burn, and the gym was closed. It even had air conditioning.
I heard this school’s soccer team was a strong one, but wouldn’t it fall apart due to the temperature when they went to other schools for away games?
“Why?”
When I asked, Nam Da-un looked at me blankly as if to say, “Why are you asking something so obvious?”
“Because it’s a hassle.”
Damn, that was too perfect a reason.
In fact, I thought the Vice President’s position was a hassle too. If I had just heard him say to think it over once more, I would have quickly backed off. But the Student Council President was easily caught, and even the remaining teachers were trembling at my words, so I ended up as a member of the Student Council.
Of course, I hadn’t been to the Student Council President’s office since then. It felt a bit uncomfortable seeing the President who looked like he was about to faint every time.
Anyway, surprisingly, Nam Da-un seemed to be capable, yet was incredibly averse to taking on any responsibilities.
“However, if you become a member of the Student Council, there are plenty of good things, you know.”
“Ha.”
When I didn’t give up on persuading him, Nam Da-un let out a deep sigh and squatted down. Then he ruffled his hair and said,
“Alright, let’s hear what you have to say.”
He generously gave me another chance.
“So, um…”
I hesitated for a moment and spoke cautiously.
“You can allocate the budget for the sports clubs, so we can increase the soccer club’s budget to some extent—”
“I’m not doing it.”
“Ah, why not?!”
I got a bit annoyed at Nam Da-un’s instant rejection.
“You’re saying that not only the soccer club but all the other sports club budgets should be allocated too. If it gets distributed incorrectly, won’t we just get criticized from other places?”
“Do you have any friends in other clubs?”
“No.”
“Then why should you care?”
“Honestly, it’s just a hassle.”
“Ah!”
I made a frustrated sound again.
“Can’t you just do it? Please!”
“What? Hey, wait a minute, don’t hold on to my pants like that!?”
As I quickly crawled and grabbed the hem of Nam Da-un’s pants, he jumped up in alarm. He pulled up his pants with all his might while shouting.
“Are you crazy?!”
“Please! You can just let the committee members do the work, and just lend your name!”
“There are plenty of people who will do it if I ask someone else! I’m sure others in the sports clubs will be happy to do it if you want!”
“I just can’t trust the other people!”
As I shouted like that, Nam Da-un suddenly froze.
Oh, what’s going on? Did it work? Should I act a bit more pitiful?
…This is embarrassing.
That’s right. Even if I was moving, I was basically in Sara’s body.
If others saw this, they would definitely think that Sara was clinging to Nam Da-un’s leg.
“Ah, right. You didn’t have any friends, did you?”
No, even I would be hurt if I were referred to like that.
“…”
When I glared at him, Nam Da-un averted his gaze slightly.
Then, it seemed like he made eye contact with my friends who were behind me.
“…Hey.”
“What?”
“Seriously, let go.”
“I don’t wanna.”
“No, really, let go. This is really dangerous right now. If you keep hanging on to me, something huge is going to happen, you know? So for our safety, how about we just talk it out instead?”
“…?”
Wondering what he was talking about, I turned to look at where he was gazing.
…There were three girls staring at me blankly from over there.
Ha Neul, Sua, and Sohee.
…Ah, now that I think about it, I’m currently clinging to a guy. And that’s a guy’s pants!
I hadn’t acted that way with those three normally.
“…”
I also averted my gaze from those three and let go of his pants.
And at that moment, I heard whistling from a distance.
“Impressive, our ace!”
“…”
Nam Da-un turned his head towards the direction of the sound.
It was the voice of the soccer club’s assistant coach.
I guess seeing me, who had just been hanging on to Nam Da-un’s pants, made him think I was actually clinging onto him.
Well, I was, but… it wasn’t for the reason they were thinking.
“Why don’t you just date—”
Before that sentence could even finish, Nam Da-un took off his sneakers and threw them at the coach. There was no hesitation or stuttering in his cool and impressive move. Of course, the coach didn’t get hit, but still.
“Oh dear, this seems like a—”
Before the next word could finish, the other shoe from Nam Da-un hit the coach too.
The coach dodged it and walked over with a teasing grin.
“Well, if that’s not the case…”
I stood up and said that.
“If it’s not what you think…”
The coach gave me a look that genuinely seemed like he wanted to strike me.
Uh, Coach, isn’t it best to be cautious since all three girls have their eyes on you?
Of course, I wouldn’t say that outright; I just let out a deep sigh.
“I was just asking Nam Da-un-seonbae to take on the role of the Student Council Chairperson for Physical Education.”
“Student Council Chairperson?”
This time, he looked genuinely surprised as his eyes widened as he looked at Nam Da-un.
“There are almost no positions left in the committees. I’m trying to fill them properly this time… but he keeps rejecting my offer.”
“Who would want to take up a position with no benefits?”
…Well, here I am.
Damn it.
People can mess up once in a while, right?
Yeah, one can mess up, but that’s still a bit harsh.
You were the one who instigated me! It’s your fault!
“Uh… So, is being the Physical Education Chairperson that role? The one that involves making budget plans for sports clubs and organizing the sporting events?”
“Exactly. Since I’m the chairperson, not just a committee member.”
Of course, the approval from the committee would be needed, but filling in the vacant spots with our faction wouldn’t be much of an issue. This school’s budget was essentially in our hands. That said, if we did misuse it entirely, it might cause problems, so we had to be cautious.
“…”
The coach was agape, staring at Nam Da-un. It seemed like he sensed something ominous from his demeanor.
“What’s wrong?”
When Nam Da-un asked him, the coach suddenly knelt down by Nam Da-un’s feet.
“Wh-what? Why are you doing this!?”
And then he grabbed Nam Da-un’s leg.
Compared to my clumsy attempts, the coach’s speed was incomparable, so Nam Da-un couldn’t dodge in time. Well, he hadn’t been able to dodge when I grabbed him either.
Nam Da-un started smacking the coach’s back. It looked painful just watching, but somehow, I felt like I would have acted similarly if I were in his shoes. The image of a guy clinging to his pants is just too traumatic to imagine.
“Can’t you take the position of Chairperson? The soccer club’s budget is getting less and less…!”
“No, I’m graduating next year!”
“Hey, but I’m the vice-captain of the soccer club! Don’t you think it’s a bit much that we haven’t had a new player enter for years? Huh? And we need a hefty budget to prepare for various things!”
“Is the sports club’s budget that skewed?”
“It’s mostly been spent on events.”
The coach answered my question.
“Ah…”
So, this means it’s just misconduct in administration.
“Ah, senpai, let’s just put this aside for now, okay?”
“No way! I’d rather you step on me!”
“I can’t even step on you since I’m holding one of your legs!”
Nam Da-un’s voice echoed through the gymnasium.
*
…Well, in the end, thanks to the coach’s physical strength and my persuasion, Nam Da-un ended up becoming the Physical Education Chairperson.
His expression remained sour, though.
If he really didn’t want it, he should’ve just said he absolutely didn’t want to do it… But I guess I shouldn’t say that.
Coughing lightly to clear my throat, I spoke again.
“Please welcome our new Chairperson for Physical Education, Nam Da-un-seonbae. I hope for your continued support!”
Nam Da-un nodded his head, maintaining his sour expression.
However, all that could be heard among the crowd were expressions of awe.
Well, how bad could it look even if a handsome guy frowns a bit?
By the way, the guys were grimacing a lot.
Yeah, I get you boys.
I nodded vigorously at them in my heart.
