I Don't Want An Ordinary Life

Chapter 7: [7] Can I Leave Now?

Chapter 7: Can I Leave Now?

"Yao Ronan... you're really a foreigner?"

"I already told you, didn't I?"

In a classroom, the girl from earlier sat face to face with Ronan, holding his student ID. Ronan had already learned the names of the two girls.

The girl in front of him, who was causing trouble, was named Iino Miko, the school's discipline committee member and a first-year student.

The other girl, who wore thick glasses, was named Kobachi Osaragi, also a first-year student.

Miko returned Ronan's student ID and asked: "Your class isn't listed on your ID. Which class are you in?"

"The class assignments haven't been announced yet. We'll find out tonight. But I'm also a first-year student."

"I see. So you're a new international student. But you should know that smoking is prohibited on campus, and this behavior will result in a demerit."

"Got it. Can I leave now?"

"No."

Ronan glanced at Miko's serious expression and then at Kobachi's emotionless face sitting beside her.

"Both of you... are you interrogating me?"

"We're criticizing and educating you."

"Oh, I see... then where's the tonkatsu?"

"Huh?"

"I heard that in Japan, when interrogating a suspect, you're supposed to treat them to tonkatsu."

"Are you talking about some old TV drama or something?"

"Isn't that how it is?"

"No, it's not."

Kobachi suddenly spoke up, "Ronan-san, is this your first time in Japan?"

"I came here four years ago, but I've been abroad since then."

"What's your impression of Japanese schools?"

"My impression of Japanese schools... girls like to eat bread on their way to school, students can settle personal grudges by fighting on the rooftop, and the boy sitting by the window in the second row is usually really cool... oh, and school romances are really popular in Japan."

Miko: "..."

Kobachi: "I see."

She pushed up her thick glasses and looked at Ronan, saying: "It seems like Ronan-san has read a lot of Japanese manga and watched a lot of Japanese TV dramas. However, those are just artistic expressions and shouldn't be confused with reality."

"Thanks for the advice. Can I leave now?"

Ronan stood up, but Miko raised her hand and pushed him back down.

"No, sit down."

"..."

"Since Ronan-san is a foreign student at Shuchiin Academy, there are many things he doesn't know. So..."

Miko said, pulling out a thick stack of papers from the drawer beside her.

"I need to go over the school's rules and regulations with you."

"Ugh, how long is this going to take?"

"About an hour."

"Ah, I just remembered I have something to do, so I'll just..."

"No way!"

Before Ronan could even stand up, Miko grabbed his shoulder and pushed him back down.

"Ronan-san, this is also for the sake of the school's discipline. From what I saw when you were smoking outside, it seems like you were a bit of a troublemaker even when you were abroad. Now that you're at Shuchiin Academy, you need to change your bad habits and become a positive and upright student."

"I promise I'll be a good student."

"Mmm, I'm glad to hear that."

"Can I leave now?"

"Not yet, I still haven't gone over the school rules with you."

"#%&¥%#&!"

Ronan was at his wit's end with this girl. If it weren't for Kaname telling him beforehand not to hurt anyone or break any rules at school, he would have forced his way out by now.

"Okay, school rules..."

"It's the discipline committee!" Miko glared at Ronan.

"Fine, discipline committee member... can't I just take these rules home and read them later?"

"You'll actually read them?"

"For sure."

"Well, since you haven't been assigned to a class yet and don't have anything else to do at school..."

"I'm just hanging out."

"Well, in that case, I suppose I can take the time to go over all the rules with you."

"What the...?"

This discipline committee member was truly formidable.

Ronan looked at Miko, who was sitting in front of him with a serious expression, and felt a headache coming on.

This was the first time he had met someone at this school who gave him a sense of trouble.

On the other hand, Kobachi seemed to be enjoying the exchange between the two.

He sat beside Miko, and as they faced off, it seemed like there were virtual images behind each of them.

Behind Ronan was a sleeping tiger, while behind Miko was a cute hamster with its teeth bared.

Miko didn't know why she had this illusion.

As Ronan thought about how to slip away, his eyes suddenly lit up, and he said to Miko, who was flipping through the school rules: "Officer..."

"It's discipline committee member!"

"Sorry, discipline committee member, is there someone in your family who works for the International Red Cross?"

Miko's eyes widened in surprise.

"How did you know that?"

"I met someone from the organization while I was traveling in Syria. One of the women I met was named Iino."

"That must be my mother!" Miko exclaimed, standing up excitedly.

"Did you see her?"

"Yes, I saw her at a refugee camp. Ms. Iino is a very dedicated and responsible person. She worked tirelessly to help the wounded and provided support to those who were traumatized by war. She's an outstanding woman."

Miko looked down, a complex expression on her face that seemed to be both happy and sad.

"My mother is a member of the International Red Cross, and she's usually abroad, rarely coming back to spend time with me. But I know that everything she does is to make the world a better place."

"Ah, I think so too. The world needs more people like your mother, who aren't afraid of challenges and difficulties, and who are driven by a sense of justice and compassion."

"It's great to hear someone say that. I know my mother's efforts won't be in vain."

Miko finally smiled warmly after hearing Ronan's words.

"That's right, you're Ms. Iino's daughter, and I'm sure you'll grow up to be just as excellent as she is."

"Hehehe~"

"So, can I go now?"

"No way."

"Hey! I've said so many nice things already, can't you let me off the hook? Is it really necessary to keep me here against my will?"

"There's nothing wrong with it. As a discipline committee member, it's my duty to correct the bad habits you've developed while living abroad."

"You're overstepping your bounds... Ah, President Shirogane, have you come to bail me out?"

Ronan suddenly looked surprised and stared behind Miko, who immediately turned around to find no one there.

"Where's the president? There's no one here!"

When Miko turned back to face Ronan, she discovered that he had vanished into thin air.

"Where did he go?"

"Oh, you mean the foreign student?"

Kobachi calmly pointed to the already open window.

"He jumped out the window and escaped."

"...This guy, don't let me catch him again!"
