Ep. 1173 The Island of Agardia Part 4
Brightfire says "Great! So, will you be fighting with us or are we on our own?"
"If any strong demons show up I will handle them. Other than that, I won't participate. I would rather your troops get the experience."
Brightfire says "Okay. I will make some plans."
Lin says "Before you get distracted making whatever you come up with, do you think you could finish the other tattoo gun for me?"
"Oh, right, sorry. I will go finish it right now."
Lin gives me a knowing smile and then goes back to working on Silverleaf's tattoo. I enter the castle, head straight to my workshop, and get to work on the gun. I finish the gun and pen, enchant them, and then head back outside to give them to Lin.
As I leave the castle, I notice that it is completely silent, so I ask Lin where the kids are. She tells me that they took Chloell and went into the shadow plane for some exploring. I should have known that, but I didn't think I was gone that long, I forgot the time dilation.
"Here you go. Oh, other than the leaders, please prioritize the soldiers that will be fighting on the island. Speaking of, how many do you think you will be using, Brightfire?"
Lin says "Okay, will do."
Brightfire says "Probably one hundred. I don't want to take them all and leave the ship vulnerable."
"One hundred? Okay, I better get to work then."
I quickly head back to the workshop while I try to figure out what I am going to make. It needs to be simple enough that I can make a hundred and easy enough to use for soldiers. Thinking simple and easy, my first thought is of the glasses to see mana.
To keep it simple, I can make them so that they only show demonic mana. Nothing is easier than wearing glasses, except glasses need to fit properly. However, I don't want to have to fit a pair of glasses for each of the one hundred elves.
The answer to that problem is to make goggles with an adjustable strap instead of glasses. Besides, glasses are too easy to break, especially in a combat situation. I don't actually know what happens when an enchanted item breaks and I don't want to find out.
Actually, that's a lie, I am curious but that kind of experiment would definitely get me in trouble. Assuming I didn't just straight up blow myself to pieces, which is a possibility. This is one instance where I don't care about my curiosity, I fear Lin's wrath much more.
Anyway, goggles are probably the best I can come up with on short notice. Checking my supply of materials I think I have enough crystal for the job, but I need leather. Wait, I have the leather that Lin didn't use for her tattoo practice, that might be enough.
I quickly get to work making a prototype to see if my idea is going to be practical. I also want to see just how thin I can make the lenses and straps since I don't want to run out of materials. I am not worried about the enchantment, that is actually going to be the easiest part.
It only takes me a few minutes to make the prototype and then I spend a few more modifying it. When I have it the way I want it, I proceed to the enchanting to see if the capacity matches. The enchantment to view demonic mana actually fits in the lenses just fine.
This leaves the capacity of the leather unused, so I add a single enchantment for comfort. With that, the prototype is done and seems to work just fine, now I just need ninety-nine more. Even with the time dilation, I am not sure if I am going to have enough time.
I don't waste any and start crafting the next one even as I am thinking of ways to speed up the process. The actual crafting isn't too hard, just time consuming and repetitive. If I could enchant it at the same time instead of having to stop working, that would be perfect.
With that thought in mind, I start trying to split my attention to do both at once. It is something I have managed to do before, just not to this degree. It kind of works, my crafting speed slows down, but I am able to do the enchantments without stopping my work.
Even so, I am crafting the goggles faster than I can enchant them, but that also helps. I can focus on enchanting a completed pair of goggles instead of enchanting the pieces. Of course, I mess up several times as my concentration falters, but the mistakes are fixable.
To avoid making more mistakes, I have to slow down both the crafting and enchanting. However, it is still faster than making the goggles one by one and then enchanting them. With practice, it gets easier for me to focus on the two tasks at the same time.
*DING*
Congratulations! You have acquired the skill Divided Mind!
Divided Mind
Level 1
Allows you to split your mind into 2 parts.
Each part can focus on a separate task.
'What the hell?! Really?? I got a new skill!? I can't even remember the last time that happened. To be honest, I thought I had outgrown the system and I wouldn't be getting anything from it anymore!'
The new skill immediately shows its effects and my speed improves quite a bit. I also don't have to focus as hard and the number of mistakes I am making drops to almost zero. This skill is exactly what I needed and I am now confident in making all the goggles in time.
I can't help but wonder if with the skill I could control two sets of arms to work on two projects at once. I really want to test it and find out, but I make myself wait until later. Mainly because once I start testing, I won't stop until I find out everything I can do with the skill.
Oh, I wonder if I would be able to cast two different spells at once using the skill? Or cast a spell with one part and boost it with the other part? There are so many possibilities! I can't wait to start experimenting and find out what I can do now!
I stop thinking about the possibilities and focus on completing the goggles. I managed to finish about half of the goggles before I hear movement upstairs. I am not sure how long has passed at this point, but I stop to check what's going on.
It is Bella and Lin, it looks like they have taken a break to get some food. However, the kids aren't back and I am starting to get a little worried about them. At Bella's request I take out several pizzas for the two of them to eat, but I don't join them.
Lin says "Not eating?"
"Not yet. To be honest I am a little worried about the kids. They are normally back by now."
