Chapter 252: Chapter 252: The Corpses? Fed to the Fish
Chapter 252: The Corpses? Fed to the Fish
Chen Ye wandered almost the entire village.
The more he looked at the familiar scenes, the grimmer his expression became.
He was now almost certain—this was the movie world he remembered!
And it was an extremely dangerous world.
At that moment.
Someone finally couldn't hold back and stepped forward to ask.
"Master, may I ask why you've come to our water village? Are you here for alms?"
"I'm not a monk; I'm an exorcist!" Chen Ye replied. "I was passing by and noticed some demonic energy here, so I came to investigate."
"Huh? Demonic energy?" The villager was startled, then looked at Chen Ye with a doubtful expression. "But our village has always been peaceful! We've never had any trouble with demons."
Chen Ye's mind stirred.
No trouble with demons?
That means the plot hasn't started yet.
"Has anything strange happened around here recently?" he asked.
"Strange things?" The villager shook his head firmly. "No, not at all!"
"Are you sure?" Chen Ye pressed.
The villager hesitated, thought for a moment, and then said, "Well, if you want to talk about strange things, two months ago, a kidnapper came to steal children from our village. We caught him, beat him to death, and threw him downstream."
Chen Ye asked, "The child he tried to take—was she a little girl named Changsheng?"
"Huh? How do you know that?" The villager looked shocked.
Chen Ye sighed. "The man you killed wasn't a kidnapper. He was a kind-hearted person who often helped others. That day, he saw Changsheng almost fall into the river and saved her. But you misunderstood and killed him…"
"No wonder your village is shrouded in a lingering aura of resentment. It seems the man you killed will soon turn into a demon to seek revenge!"
Chen Ye wasn't making this up.
In the original plot, this was exactly what happened.
Chen Ye had some sympathy for the fish demon that had died unjustly, so he decided to say a few more words.
"What? What should we do?" The villager was panicking but remained wary.
After a moment of thought, he said, "Master, how much would it cost to perform a ritual to dispel the resentment?"
Having been through many experiences, Chen Ye could tell at a glance that the villager was still on guard.
If Chen Ye made an exorbitant demand, the villager would likely back out immediately. Only if the price was low might the villager agree, treating it as buying peace of mind.
"This is your karma. You cannot avoid it."
Leaving this cryptic remark, Chen Ye turned and walked away.
The villager was stunned, probably not expecting this bald man to act so unpredictably.
When Chen Ye truly left.
The villager began to believe that what Chen Ye said might be true.
"Master! Master…" The villager hurried after him.
As the head of the water village, he naturally didn't want anything bad to happen to the village.
But when he stepped outside the village, the chief could no longer find any trace of Chen Ye.
Moments later.
The chief returned to the village, deeply troubled.
Still uneasy, he decided to visit Changsheng's house directly.
"Village chief?" Seeing the chief arrive, a middle-aged man warmly greeted him. "Why have you come to my house all of a sudden? Have you had lunch? Why not eat with us?"
This middle-aged man was Changsheng's father.
In the movie's opening, he was the unlucky fellow dragged back and forth in the water by the fish demon.
Of course, his fate wasn't undeserved. When they killed the kind-hearted man, he had been the most brutal.
The village chief didn't bother with pleasantries and got straight to the point. "Where is your daughter, Changsheng?"
Changsheng's father responded instinctively, "She's playing inside the house!"
"Call her out. I need to ask her something." The chief sat down on a nearby stool with a serious expression.
Seeing how solemn the chief looked, Changsheng's father, though puzzled, didn't delay. He went into the house and carried his daughter, Changsheng, out.
Changsheng was a little girl, only about six or seven years old.
Her father, fearing that the village chief might frighten his daughter, quickly spoke up, "Village Chief, you know about Changsheng's condition. She doesn't speak very clearly... Did something happen?"
The village chief, of course, was well aware of Changsheng's situation.
After all, the water village was small, with only a few dozen people in total. Every family's affairs eventually reached his ears.
Changsheng was born with a congenital ailment. Even though she was already seven years old, she could only speak in two-word phrases.
In the original plot, Changsheng had many appearances, but her vocabulary was limited to simple words like "Mama" and "fool."
"Changsheng!" The village chief crouched down with a kind smile and asked, "Grandpa wants to ask you something. Do you remember the bad man who was beaten to death two months ago?"
By the age of six or seven, children typically have a decent memory.
Changsheng thought for a moment and nodded.
She looked very obedient!
"Village Chief, why are you suddenly bringing this up?" her father quickly asked. "After that incident, she had nightmares for days before forgetting about it…"
"Shut up!" The village chief interrupted sternly. "Wait until I'm done asking."
It was clear that the village chief commanded a certain level of authority.
Changsheng's father immediately fell silent, not daring to argue further.
The village chief turned back to Changsheng, maintaining his kind demeanor. "Changsheng, tell Grandpa, were you playing by the river at the time?"
Changsheng nodded again.
…
After a series of questions, the village chief finally pieced everything together.
It truly had been a misunderstanding two months ago.
"Oh no! This is going to be a big problem!"
The village chief sighed heavily, his face full of regret.
He had been present that day but hadn't stopped the villagers from killing the man.
"Village Chief, what's going on?" Changsheng's father asked again.
The village chief didn't hide anything. He recounted his encounter with Chen Ye, including everything Chen Ye had said.
When he finished, the village chief scolded angrily, "That day, you were the one who hit him the hardest and led the charge... Why didn't you make sure of the facts before killing him?"
"Ah, Village Chief, how could I have known any better at the time? When I saw someone trying to take my child, I acted without thinking!"
Changsheng's father didn't seem to take the matter seriously.
In those days, a few deaths here and there were considered all too common.
"Besides, that guy's body was completely fed to the fish. How could he turn into a demon? I don't believe it!"
"Believe it or not, the village needs to be prepared!"
The village chief thought for a moment and said, "This afternoon, I'll go to town and hire an exorcist to perform a ritual… Since this was caused by you, your family will cover the majority of the cost."
With that, the village chief turned and left.
"Wait, Village Chief, Village Chief…"
Changsheng's father wanted to say more, but the chief was already gone.
…
Chen Ye hadn't gone far.
He was perched on the mountain next to the water village.
Everything that had just happened was clearly observed by him.
His expression remained calm as he revisited the events of the original plot in his mind. After a brief moment of thought, he left to continue searching for President Chen.
