Chapter 314: Spirit World

[Chapter 313 Comments.]

[Keltic_Spirit: I'm guessing this bird isn't going to the matriarch. Also, your wife isn't appearing. I do wonder how the phoenix girl is doing as a bodyguard. It would be cool to see her new daily life.]

"We have arrived. This is the Divine Mountain," said Baltazar as they reached a humongous mountain.

The mountain pierced through the clouds and still continued upward. The base of the mountain spanned for more than 20 kilometers and had been developed everywhere, creating a manificent giant city.

"This is amazing. How can there be such a big mountain? How tall is this mountain?" Serena raised her head in amazement.

"This mountain is almost 9 kilometers tall." Baltazar smiled as if he were proud to have such a mountain.

"Is this where the spirits live?" Theo asked.

"Indeed. There are actually multiple divine cities, which are represented by their landmarks. It's said that all the spirits living in the world right now were born from twelve divine spirits.

"During the creation process, the twelve divine spirits turned themselves into landmarks and gave their blessings to their descendants.

"As you might already know, our spirits have their own unique power. For the two young spirits in your class, they have the power of barriers. I, too, have a unique power related to lightning.

"And the places are to awaken our powers are considered landmarks. There are multiple theories, such as the landmarks are actually the divine spirits' bodies.

"Nevertheless, it's true that there are twelve divine landmarks in this world. We are occupying the Divine Mountain. There are other cities, like Divine Lake or Divine Tree.

"The reason why we believe they are divine spirits is because this mountain, despite being so tall, is not freezing at all. The temperature at the top is actually higher than you might think. There is no snow formed at the top."

Serena and the others listened attentively. Lancelot couldn't help but ask, "The spirits are to awaken their powers in these twelve landmarks. How do you do that? What will happen if there are bad people trying to take it away?"

"That can't be done." Baltazar shook his head. "For this mountain, the one that is used to awaken the spirits' unique power is actually water from the mountain itself. There is a sacred place where that liquid drops continuously.

"If you want to get it, you simply have to move the entire mountain. And I don't think there is anyone who has that ability.

"The same applies to other divine landmarks. While they are different, they are unique and immovable."

Jayden thought for a moment and said, "Does that mean whoever is able to control these two divine landmarks will control the world?"

Baltazar looked quite surprised by that question. He smiled wryly, "You can think of it that way. However, no one is bold enough to do that. In fact, anyone who dares to claim another divine landmark will end up getting besieged by others to stop them from controlling two divine landmarks.

"Currently, the one who is ruling over this Divine Mountain is the Moon Clan. We are people who are closest to the moon literally." Baltazar pointed up, implying that they called themselves the Moon Clan was due to them located up high.

"Hmm…" Jayden looked down, falling into deep thought. "Is there even something different between the Moon Clan and other people?"

"Jayden. That was rude." Lancelot frowned. As a noble, he understood what that question meant.

Even in his world, the only thing that differentiated commoners and nobles was their achievement, not bloodline.

Baltazar chuckled. "A great question. If I have to say, there are two things that differentiate us from the rest of the spirits.

"First of all, the amount of essence on top of the mountain is the highest. For us to get stronger, our body is absorbing it naturally. For our Moon Clan, we are able to absorb it much more during the full moon.

"We are not aware why we are special, but everyone has their own methods. Other spirits can absorb much faster if they go to a sea, a lake, or a forest. This is another reason why we believe these twelve landmarks are divine spirits… our ancestors.

"Of course, we have also given the chance to other spirits to try absorbing essence on the top of the mountain as long as they are able to reach the top by their own power. If you have affinity with the moon, the moon will lend you strength. People who have affinity with the moon will understand this saying.

"The second reason is a secret. I can't really tell you about my family's secret."

Serena pointed at the mountain. "If the treasure can wake up the spirit's unique power, are you awakening all the spirits?"

"Indeed." Baltazar nodded with a serious expression. "Anyone who has reached the age of five will have to undergo the baptism."

"Is that limited only to spirits?"

Baltazar shook his head. "Outsiders are welcome to try. Unfortunately, only spirits can awaken. We allow outsiders to try for a price."

"Hoh?" Jayden's expression brightened. "Does that mean we can try as well? And what is the price?"

"For an outsider? The price will be either money or achievement."

"Money or achievement?"

"Indeed. If you choose to pay, it'll be rather expensive. The older you are, the more expensive it will be. The same applies for the achievement. The older you are, the higher you have to climb. For you guys who are still so young, you will get a pass as long as you reach 2,000 meters I think… so, about 10,000 steps? The trial is rather simple. Once you sleep, you fail. That's all."

Theo suddenly opened his mouth. "We will only be here for the maximum of five days. I've seen the details in the mission request but don't know much about the details. So I want to ask you whether it's enough or not."

"Five days? I believe that's enough." Baltazar smiled.

Theo squinted his eyes before adding, "I'm talking whether this is enough if these students have to climb the mountain first."

"!!!"

"Climbing the… mountain?" Serena dropped her jaw.
