Chapter 12.2
Stage 1-12. A Compassionate One
I rushed forward.
“Me too! Please save me too, ‘Savior’!”
I’ll deal with her later!
“It’s gonna hurt if this hits, you jerk!”
“If it hits, that is!”
The knife came straight at me.
He probably expected me to freeze up in fear, but unfortunately for him, I’m already used to real combat.
In the combat training with Alice before I enrolled, we used real swords, even though the blades were dulled.
Since I can’t use magic, hand-to-hand combat is essential for me, making that training crucial.
Thanks to it, I have almost no fear of weapons.
“What the!?”
I smoothly parried his arm from the inside.
The knife’s trajectory veered off, and he left his body completely exposed.
“Reflect on your actions.”
“Guah!?”
I buried a left body blow into his side, then knocked him out with a right straight to his face as he doubled over.
As I pushed away the falling man, the others pulled out their weapons.
“Surround him!”
With one of them down, they stopped underestimating me and started working together.
“Die!”
“I’ll carve you up!”
They swung their weapons at my head and abdomen.
But that’s naive. If you’re aiming, go for the legs, not the stomach.
“The space below is a safe zone.”
I crouched down to dodge.
Placing my hands on the ground, I flipped my body upside down and kicked them square in the face.
“Gah!?”
“Ugh!?”
Two left.
“D-damn it! No one told us there’d be guys like this! Hey, let’s get outta here!”
“Gyahhhhh!”
“Eeek!”
A blood-curdling scream cut him off.
Alice had already intercepted and was crushing the man who tried to escape with an iron claw.
I could hear bones cracking—definitely not a sound you’re supposed to hear.
“…Ah… ugh…”
The man she had caught foamed at the mouth and rolled his eyes back.
She tossed him onto the pile of men I had already knocked out.
“…Are you going to run too?”
Alice flashed a sinister grin.
…I swear, she’s more suited to being a villain than a hero.
In that sense, it might have been fate that she became my subordinate.
“May the ‘Savior’ have mercy on your souls…”
And now she’s kneeling and praying for the men we’ve taken down—what a lunatic.
“What the hell are you people!?”
“I was gonna ask you that!”
“Urgh!”
I landed a right hook full of intent on his cheek.
The guy, too panicked to think straight, couldn’t dodge and went down weakly.
These guys are clearly just grunts.
I don’t know if they’ll lead me to anything, but I should tie them up and get some information.
“Alice.”
“Understood.”
Alice tore the men’s clothes and used them to tie up their hands and feet.
…Now that I think about it, Mashiro passed out on my back…
…Ah, it must’ve been when I rushed in to break things up.
In a way, it’s better she didn’t see this scene.
Having to comfort her would’ve been the hardest part.
“Ouga-sama, that was a splendid ‘salvation judgment’.”
“Stop making up weird words.”
I’m not that kind of character…!
Alice just made up this ideal version of me on her own.
I only went along with it because the awkward atmosphere was too much to bear… How did it come to this…?
But she didn’t seem to care and began introducing herself.
“My name is Mio. I never imagined a noble would actually come… Just as Alice said, you truly are a compassionate person.”
With that, she clasped my hand tightly, intertwining her fingers with mine.
“We don’t have much to offer, but this orphanage welcomes you, Vellet-sama.”
…Even though I came here just to recruit labor, I feel like I’ve stepped into an even messier situation.
That’s the sense I got from this encounter.
