Chapter 246 [The Real Saint (2)]
After the subjugation of Machart, there was another meeting.
However, the members of the meeting had changed slightly compared to when the Machart Subjugation Team was first formed.
First, the members present naturally included me, Ethan, and Seriste who were present during Machart’s punishment.
Additionally, Seraphine, who had newly learned that I was the Saint, joined the meeting. Of course, I hadn’t formally explained that I was the Saint yet, but I could sense that she already knew I was the Saint.
‘From the start, this meeting was called for Seraphine to hear whether I’m the Saint or not definitively.’
Of course, she would have many other things she wanted to hear from me, but the most important would be whether I’m the Saint or not. Besides that, it was a meeting set up to ask about the circumstances of this Machart incident, such as how long it had been planned and how many people were involved. [Only on DarkStar Translations! / Axiomatic]
I naturally had many things to ask Seraphine as well, so I had no choice but to attend. I also needed to hear about what happened in the Banquet Hall while I was away.
As for additional members, there was Luke, who naturally came along with Seraphine. I was a bit hesitant about whether it was okay to reveal to her about the royal assassination plot or the fact that I was the Saint, but Luke would probably be fine. If something came up that she shouldn’t hear, Seraphine would probably send her out midway.
Fortunately, the annex was empty as if the recent commotion had never happened, so it wasn’t difficult to find a quiet room to use as a conference room. After all, it wouldn’t make sense for other noble children to still be in the annex after such an incident.
Just as we found the conference room and as we were about to begin, two more people entered.
“Everyone’s here. We’ve been looking for you for a while since you weren’t in the backyard.”
“I expected you would come soon, Hero Gyeongmwajogyegigwat.”
“…I’m saying this in case you misunderstand, Lilith, but we didn’t come late because we were slacking off.”
“Yes, Miss Agnes.”
…No, to be precise, there were three people.
“Miss Agnes, I’m truly sorry for what happened earlier. I really thought my fiancée was getting involved in something bad, and as your husband, I thought I should stop you…”
“I told you to go away. Who’s your fiancée? Just go… I don’t want to see you.”
“Miss Agnes, I really…”
“I told you not to keep holding my hand…!”
Gyeongmwajogyegigwat and Agnes arrived, who seemed to have just returned from doing something important (presumably), and there was also a prince who was clinging to Agnes.
I could roughly picture what had happened even though I hadn’t seen it with my own eyes. Since Machart had said earlier that he had arranged for Antonio to meet Agnes, Antonio probably interfered with Agnes trying to join us on time, making Agnes upset.
“Antonio isn’t really involved in this matter, but I think it’s better if you sit down for now.”
“…Yes, Sister Sera.”
Shoo.
“Don’t sit next to me. Sit far away, I don’t want to see your face. And don’t sit across from me either. I don’t want to see your face.”
“But, Miss Agnes…”
“Antonio, stop being stubborn and come sit next to me, yes? I think I’ll have quite a few things to say to you today, too.”
“…Yes, Sister Sera.”
Antonio carefully sat down two seats away from where he originally intended to sit, pushed by Agnes’s disgust and Seraphine’s call.
The round table had eight seats, so there wasn’t a lack of seats, but Luke was now bringing tea and snacks as if it were natural, like a maid. Leaving one seat empty, the remaining seven people sat down and began reporting on what had happened earlier today.
“Well then, where should we start?”
“……”
“I think it’s best to start with the facts that everyone knows, if only to organize the situation.”
Thanks to Seraphine’s lead in the meeting that started with such words, we were able to quickly summarize what had happened a few hours ago.
I had received a ‘substantial’ life threat due to the dark magic used by Machart, and because of that, I asked Ethan for help. [Only on DarkStar Translations! / Axiomatic]
Of course, the situation was impossible for just me and Ethan to handle, so we asked for help from trustworthy people, which were Gyeongmwajogyegigwat, Seriste, and Agnes.
It wasn’t that we didn’t trust Seraphine, but we were cautious about telling her because it involved the Royal Family.
Machart had informed Antonio that Agnes would participate in this exchange meeting, and Antonio’s intrusion almost ruined the operation midway.
Fortunately, while the Hero and Agnes were tied up, Ethan barely managed to save me and defeat Machart.
We used Seriste’s Mirror of Truth (actually used by me) to reveal Machart’s dark magic and carried out immediate execution.
It was a lengthy epic derived from cross-checking each other’s stories. In the process, we could also clearly understand why Agnes was so disgusted with Antonio.
“I’ll say it again, I have no words to excuse what I did today, even if I had ten mouths. But I really thought about your future, Miss Agnes…”
“Shut up. I don’t want to hear it. If something had happened to Lilith because of you, then I would have…”
“Agnes, calm down. I’m here safe and sound, aren’t I?”
“…Yeah.”
Even now, I was calming her down in a situation where she was on the verge of committing threats or insults against Antonio, who was still royalty.
If something had really happened to me as she said, she probably wouldn’t have been able to speak so calmly to Antonio.
Even now, I could see Agnes trying to hold back her curses, reluctantly considering that her opponent was royalty.
“By the way, Hero Gyeongmwajogyegigwat and Miss Agnes, where did you go without joining us? I’m sure my magic signal reached everyone at the same time.”
“There was a collaborator of Machart’s left. We thought we shouldn’t let them escape, so Agnes and I searched separately.” [Only on DarkStar Translations! / Axiomatic]
“…And we didn’t not join. We were properly watching until the Mirror of Truth was used. Then this Hero guy forcibly dragged me out, saying he had something he had to do.”
“A collaborator of Prince Machart… no, Machart… could it be the person I know?”
“…It might be a bit dangerous to speak openly about this information, so I’d like to reduce the number of non-related people.”
Seraphine, who seemed to roughly understand Gyeongmwajogyegigwat’s statement, glanced at Luke, and understanding with just that eye contact, she filled everyone’s cups with tea one last time before quietly moving outside.
“I’ll be waiting outside the conference room, beyond 10 meters.” (T/N: 33 ft.)
Until a few years ago, she had a personality that made her anxious about people talking about her, but after working as Seraphine’s maid for a long time, it seemed her personality had completely transformed into that of a maid.
“I see, Miss Agnes. Perhaps that collaborator you mentioned…”
“You should leave too, Antonio.”
“…Sister Sera?”
“This doesn’t concern you either, Antonio. Your role ended with explaining why you swung your sword at the Hero. So, either wait outside with Luke, or return to the palace.”
“No, Sister Sera. Since it’s about Miss Agnes, I naturally have the right to hear…”
“Seraphine told you to leave. Leave.”
“Could you please vacate your seat, Prince Antonio?”
“…I’m sorry. It’s a bit too secretive to even tell the prince.”
“……”
“…I understand. I’ll wait outside, Miss Agnes.”
“Don’t wait. Just go.”
It was a lonely exit that somehow reminded me of Luke in the past. Of course, it was an unavoidable measure since Antonio wasn’t included in the main branches of this incident.
Also, considering what was about to happen, it was better to have as few eyes watching as possible. The conversation we were about to have in this room, and what we had to do, were confidential matters that we couldn’t show Antonio.
With the sound of the conference room door opening and closing, Antonio also went outside, leaving only six people in the conference room. It was the original Machart Subjugation Team with just Seraphine added. [Only on DarkStar Translations! / Axiomatic]
Thinking this was probably enough to continue the conversation, Seraphine was the first to speak again.
“Before we hear from Hero Gyeongmwajogyegigwat, I’d like to ask Miss Lilith one question first, if that’s alright?”
“…Yes, Princess Seraphine.”
“Actually, rather than a question, it’s just confirming a fact I’ve learned. I think Miss Lilith also knows what question I’m going to ask.”
“……”
“I was certain when I saw the power you invoked in the backyard earlier. …Miss Lilith, you are actually the Saint of this generation, aren’t you?”
“…Huh?”
Only Agnes, sitting next to me, turned her head towards me with a surprised expression as if hearing this for the first time, while the rest of the members who knew the truth maintained silence, trying to keep a calm expression.
“Seraphine? What are you talking about? Wasn’t there only one Saint? And that Saint is Seriste, right…”
“That’s correct, Princess Seraphine.”
“I thought so. The person who used the Mirror of Truth behind Miss Seriste at that time was indeed you, Miss Lilith.”
“Well, it wasn’t something I could hide forever, anyway.”
“……”
“Please don’t tell others, Princess Seraphine. We don’t want the fact that Lilith is the Saint to be widely known.”
The Hero responded calmly as if he had expected this to happen, Seriste was busily rolling her eyes at the fact that Seraphine had noticed I was the Saint, and Ethan was asking Seraphine to keep my secret even in this situation.
The conclusion Agnes drew from seeing those reactions was, naturally, only one.
“…Was I the only one who didn’t know again?”
…It wasn’t that we deliberately hid it just from Agnes, but yeah.
T/N
Poor Agnes. (and poor Antonio? I guess?)
