The first thing I did upon returning to the dormitory was to confess to Ethan that I was a Saint.

For one thing, it seemed the most appropriate time to speak since only Ethan was awake while Isabel was asleep. Moreover, to explain why I had returned to the dormitory at this hour, it was essential to tell this story.

To explain the part about how it became difficult for me to stay at the church, I couldn’t skip over the story of how I had become a Saint.

 “A Saint…?”

 “That’s right.”

 “Lilith…?”

 “Yes.”

 “……”

The blank stare he was giving me didn’t seem to be just because he had woken up from sleep.

Well, of course, it would be hard to believe right away.

For me, it would be similar to the shock I felt when I heard that Gyeongmwajogyegigwat was a fake Hero and Ethan was actually the real Hero. [Only on Galaxy Translations! / Axiomatic]

It didn’t matter if he couldn’t believe it right away, or even if he couldn’t believe it at all. I had just confessed because I didn’t want to lie in the first place.

“If it’s difficult to believe, you don’t have to. I merely told you the truth; I had no intention of forcing you to believe me, Young Master Ethan.”

“Sorry, I didn’t mean to stare like that, Lilith.”

“Pardon?”

“…Lilith.”

“Y-Yes…”

Ethan suddenly approached, calling my name in a low voice.

Somehow, I felt an ominous aura as if he was slightly angry, which caused me to respond with uncontrollable tension.

“How long have you known?”

“Wh-What do you mean?”

“That you might be a Saint, Lilith.”

“W-Well…”

“Look me in the eyes and tell me.”

“…In terms of timing, it’s been quite a while.”

For some reason, Ethan’s gaze was a bit frightening, and I thought about reducing the time frame a little, but it didn’t seem like it would help much here.

I might as well be as honest as possible here. That I had known since the moment I realized I had been possessed in this world.

“It’s been about six and a half years.”

“…What?”

“It was shortly after I started working as a debt maid at the Blackwood Estate when I collapsed in front of you, Young Master Ethan, not long after you had woken up.”

“…It’s from such a young age that I don’t remember well. But now that I think about it, I do seem to recall a maid who collapsed like that. Though, it’s the first time I’m hearing that it was you, Lilith.”

“To be honest, I’ve known since then.”

“……”

Ethan glared at me with an even more serious expression after my answer. It seemed he wasn’t pleased that I had kept it a secret for such a long time.

Still, thinking that if I was going to confess the truth, it would be better to do it all at once, I stubbornly continued my story. [Only on Galaxy Translations! / Axiomatic]

“The reason I collapsed then was because of a power like a divine revelation… As soon as I woke up, I somehow gained knowledge about various things in this world in my mind. Including the fact that I was a Saint.”

“…I see.”

“Yes. I think that’s probably why I became the ‘Saint of Prophecy’ by receiving the blessing. On that day when I collapsed, I came to hold in my mind the events that would unfold in the future of this world.”

“So you thought that was the power of a Saint.”

“…Yes. At that time, Saint Seriste’s existence hadn’t been announced yet. It’s natural for an ordinary commoner girl to imagine that she might have become a Saint when she gains mysterious powers in her mind.”

He seemed to have more or less accepted how I had discovered I was a Saint so long ago.

While I wanted to tell Ethan absolutely everything if possible, there were just two facts that I couldn’t bring myself to reveal to him until the very end, so some parts of the story had to be embellished.

I absolutely didn’t want to reveal that this world was the world inside a game called Luminor Academy, and the fact that I had been a man in my previous life. These two things would undoubtedly shock Ethan considerably if he were to hear them.

While hiding these two things until the end, I continued to explain about how I knew I was a Saint, and why I had to keep it a secret, trying my best not to lie.

“Then, why have you been hiding it until now?”

“The reason is that shortly after I possessed… I mean, after I received the revelation of becoming a Saint, Saint Seriste’s existence was officially announced.”

“…Saint Seriste? Ah, no. If what you’re saying is true, Lilith, should I call her Miss Seriste now?”

“I don’t mind either way… Anyway, the reason I couldn’t reveal that I might be a Saint was because Saint Seriste’s name was announced as the Saint first. In a situation where an orthodox Saint, who had grown up in the church for a long time, had appeared, how many people do you think would believe me unconditionally if I, a debt maid from a noble family, claimed that I might be a Saint?”

“…True. Even in ancient times, when the Aurelian Church said they would find a Saint, there were many women who claimed to be Saints. In that atmosphere, it’s understandable that you couldn’t be certain, Lilith.”

“…Even if it was revealed that I was the real Saint, it would have caused various problems, and probably, Saint Seriste and the priests of the Aurelian Church who had proclaimed her as the Saint would have been harmed.”

“Seeing that you’ve thought about such small details, I might be able to believe that you are indeed a Saint and also why you hadn’t revealed that you were a Saint until now.”

…It was a bit embarrassing to be praised like this when I had just acted to save myself. It was true that I didn’t reveal that I might be a Saint out of consideration for the harm Seriste might suffer, but that was only because Seriste was the person who would play the role of the Saint ‘in my place’.

The assumption that I was uncertain about whether I was a Saint or not was also untrue. The fact that Lilith was a Saint was something I had heard to the point of nausea during 25 playthroughs. Of course, I couldn’t explain these details one by one, so I just let it pass.

“Anyway, I was planning to hide the fact that I was a Saint for as long as possible.”

“…You were planning to live hiding the fact that you were a Saint? Why?”

“Because the moment it’s revealed that I’m a Saint, I would inevitably have to join the Hero’s party and do almost everything together with the Hero. It’s natural that I wouldn’t be able to perform my duties as your exclusive maid, and even after graduating from the academy, all of my actions would inevitably be determined by following the Hero’s journey.” [Only on Galaxy Translations! / Axiomatic]

“…Well, that’s true. If it’s revealed that you’re a Saint, Lilith, you would naturally have to stick by that perverted Hero’s side like the current Miss Seriste… Huh?”

Ethan suddenly seemed to realize something strange in the middle of our conversation, making an expression as if he had just understood something about my story of not wanting to join Gyeongmwajogyegigwat’s Hero party.

“Is there something wrong with what I said…?”

“Wait, Lilith, can I take what you just said as your true feelings?”

“Pardon? Which part are you referring to…?”

“I’m asking if it’s true that you didn’t want to reveal that you were a Saint because you chose to remain as my exclusive maid instead of joining that Gyeongmwajogyegigwat’s Hero’s party.”

“…Yes, Young Master Ethan.”

Strictly speaking, it was because the Hero’s party itself was completely opposite to my ideal lifestyle and I wanted to refuse it, but it was undeniably true that I had chosen to be Ethan’s exclusive maid as the alternative option.

In reality, lately, I had been thinking about continuing my duties as Ethan’s exclusive maid for a while even after graduating from the academy before becoming independent. So, if I had to say it, the statement that I had chosen Ethan over Gyeongmwajogyegigwat wasn’t entirely wrong, so I nodded.

“I see, so that’s how it was, Lilith… you thought it was better to be by my side rather than with that guy…”

“…Young Master Ethan?”

“Ah, yes.”

It was a bit unsettling to see him muttering to himself with a somewhat lecherous expression, but I had to finish conveying what I needed to say.

“Anyway, as I just mentioned, the reason I decided to become a Saint isn’t particularly because I want to stand by Hero Gyeongmwajogyegigwat’s side and make the world a better place. It’s just to properly inform the world about the fact that Fourth Prince Machart, who threatened me, has joined hands with the demon race. If I can utilize the Holy Power I gained after becoming a Saint, it should be possible to extract the demon race’s power from Fourth Prince Machart’s body.” [Only on Galaxy Translations! / Axiomatic]

“Yes, if that’s the reason, then you had no choice. In my opinion too, that Machart is a dangerous fellow who must be dealt with.”

“Also, once this task of punishing Fourth Prince Machart’s crimes is over, I intend to lay down this excessive power given to me. For someone like me who just wants to live as a commoner capable of using magic, the power of a Saint is nothing more than a cumbersome obstacle.”

“…Wait, you’re going to lay down your qualifications as a Saint? Is it possible to lay it down so easily?”

“Generally, it’s impossible, of course, but in the future I’ve seen, there was one way.”

“One way?”

“That is, handing over the power I possess to someone who truly deserves to be a Saint. It’s one way for a Saint to lay down her qualifications as a Saint.”

“……”

Ethan quietly looked into my eyes at the words ‘someone who deserves to be a Saint’, so it seemed he was thinking of the same person as I was.

“I intend to make Saint Seriste the real Saint.”
