Chapter 12
Fights inside the academy mostly involved sparring.
There’s nothing more efficient for training battle experience, sense, and quick thinking than sparring amongst intelligence beings.
However, sparring ultimately involves attacking each other. Injuries were bound to happen.
Now here’s the problem: where do you think more injuries happen, in the lower class or the upper class?
If you compare by the severity of injuries, it would definitely be the upper class.
Since they possess considerable strength on their own, the impact of their hits is on a whole different level compared to the lower class.
But that only holds true if they get hit without any defense; it’s only natural that the upper class students, not being fools, would block or dodge.
In the end, in training spars, hits almost never land.
Strong people have the skills to avoid serious injuries, and even if they get hurt, they only get nicked.
But what about the lower class?
The weak and inexperienced students would inadvertently overexert themselves.
They get so focused on attacking that they neglect defense and dodging, and that poor judgment inevitably returns as injuries.
Though their raw power is quite weak to the point where serious injuries are almost nonexistent, an injury is still an injury. Recovery is a given.
In total, the number of injured students was a decisive win for the lower class. So the answer to the problem was the lower class.
That should be the case…
“Die!!”
“Ahhh! You crazy fool!”
“Professor!! You need to come over here too!!”
“Don’t rush me, kiddos. I only have one body you know. Okay, all healed? Now go back and fight again.”
Well, this is a bit twisted, isn’t it?
An unprecedented number of injuries began to emerge from the upper class. And they were pretty bad too.
‘What a mess.’
The very person responsible for this chaotic scene was casually strolling through the battlefield treating the injured.
“Hoo. The upper class kids are really getting hurt, huh.”
“I don’t think that’s something you can say so nonchalantly.”
“Try being in my shoes. This level of injury is relatively minor.”
Well, that’s a tough argument to counter…
The recovery-specialized Trier family’s eldest daughter, Reina.
She possessed the insane ability to make small wounds disappear in the blink of an eye.
With such an outrageous ability, it makes sense she’s taken the role of the health teacher in an academy where injuries occur daily.
Without her, most students would probably be wandering around wrapped in bandages.
Anyway, she was as crazy as her powers suggested.
Since she could heal injuries, she believed that getting hurt in real fights was the fastest way to get stronger.
Because of that, her training was a real trial by fire.
Fight fiercely enough to get hurt, then heal, and fight again.
If you don’t want to get hurt, get stronger. Getting stronger is the best way to protect yourself.
That was a phrase she drilled into her students tirelessly.
Of course, it’s the best method to gain experience… but those who can follow it properly are few and far between.
Any sane individual would learn techniques that avoid injury.
Focusing on defense and dodging while also looking for openings in a defensive style.
However, that was against Reina’s intentions. She didn’t interfere, but in the end, those students remained mediocre.
From her perspective, the top tier students were the ones who didn’t fear getting hurt and kept pushing forward.
Ignoring small wounds. Suffering through anything that isn’t fatal. Prioritizing attacking the enemy.
Her mind was based on the premise that they would heal anyway, leading her to prefer this reckless style.
And among those with such a mindset, one figure stood out… of course, it would be the protagonist.
Protagonist Artes. He joined as a freshman and actively participated in Reina’s training, experiencing the cycle of getting hurt and healed more than anyone else, consequently growing stronger at an accelerated pace.
By the mid-term exam of the first semester, he was already strong enough to make a mark in the intermediate class, with various exciting episodes pouring out.
Thus, Reina played an incredibly important role in the protagonist’s growth.
And that important role said…
“Uh, how about we have a group fight first? Rudion, you sit this one out. If you join, it might interfere with the others’ performance, so just sit here and observe.”
Just after the entrance ceremony, she’s telling them to ‘go ahead and kill each other.’
Well, the protagonist’s growth is already looking bleak. How will… he manage?
But he’s the protagonist, so I doubt one little misstep will send him to hell.
I was worried, but I couldn’t miss the chance for popcorn, so I chose to focus on the chaos unfolding before me.
///
Reina Trier was originally supposed to be in charge of the lower class.
Since she was recruited by the Trier family due to academy needs, she didn’t have to take on the role if she didn’t want to, but surprisingly, she found an interest in teaching students.
So she asked to be assigned where the most injuries would occur, and as a result, she landed the position as the lower class teacher.
She had been in charge of the lower class for a while now. It had its own fun, so she was quite satisfied.
However, that was the story until yesterday. After the entrance exam, her decision completely flipped.
She casually glanced at the assigned list that had come out beforehand. One name stood out glaringly.
‘Rudion’
A student who showed a peculiar characteristic that could negate her abilities entirely.
Other upper class students also had their own notable traits, but compared to him, they were nothing.
‘Oh, except for Seria.’
That kid felt kind of like a younger sibling, so she had the urge to take special care of her.
Unfair, you say? Go ahead and try to chase her away. The academy would always end up in a mess.
Anyway, looking at Rudion made her rethink for the first time.
‘Well, an asset who can be treated is good, but an asset who doesn’t need treatment is even better.’
To think that he could nullify attacks not by defending but by something entirely different.
It was unfathomable, giving rise to a premise she’d never had before: ‘not getting hurt.’
As her decision changed, she sought out the academy’s dean.
“Dain. I’m sorry, but could you switch me to the upper class teacher?”
“What do you mean, tomorrow is the entrance ceremony?”
“I’ve found something I’m concerned about.”
With a pretty casual tone for someone addressing the dean. No matter how young he looked as a friend from childhood, was it really appropriate to be this blunt?
But the dean accepted it without a hitch.
They had known each other since childhood after all. It would be more awkward to be stiff around each other.
The Trier family had connections they hoped to cultivate, so one didn’t need to speak of their relationship.
However, business and personal matters ought to be distinguished. No matter how close they were, she couldn’t just handle academy affairs as she wanted.
“Professor Reina Trier. It’s impossible to make such a sudden change…”
“How about a little extra money? Word around is you’re running low these days. I could talk to my father about it.”
“…Elaborate a little more.”
And so, Reina became the upper class teacher.
She outright bribed her way into it, but what can you do? If you have money, you should spend it.
I hear the teacher who was originally in charge of the upper class ended up in the lower class… But anyway, the new teacher should be quite competent, so it’s not a loss for the lower class students.
No one knows what changes her choice will bring.
And back to the present. There’s a guy here who knows how to enjoy a situation that’s completely different from the original work.
“Good job, Harold! Crush them all!”
I cheered for Harold, who wasn’t even allowing anyone close with his massive hammer,
“Hey, what are you doing? Don’t run away like a coward, be manly and charge in! That’s right!”
And I threw a jab at the guy who would one day be called the Swordmaster,
“Lilith, don’t just stand there! Hit back! Don’t go forward, turn sideways or backward and go!”
I even offered advice to Lilith, who kept rushing in only to get hit.
“Why aren’t you cheering for me?”
“You’re doing fine. Besides, aren’t you controlling your strength to prevent them from getting hurt?”
“Wow, you recognized that. I’m being told I have talent just for this level against freshmen.”
“Aren’t you just average for a freshman? By the way, magic truly is broken in a chaotic battle. There’s no one quite like you in this aspect.”
At some point, I found Seria who had deserted the battlefield and wandered over to chat for a bit.
As time flew by, the chaotic battle came to an end.
In a brawl where no one knew who would attack from where, everyone was panting heavily, sinking to the ground to rest.
Even Seria appeared exhausted since she faced continuous attacks aimed at her since mid-battle.
That’s normal. Reina, who had been busy healing in that frenetic scene, didn’t seem tired at all.
Wait, I mean, she doesn’t get tired systemically, but still. What about her stamina?
“The upper class indeed has quite a high standard. I can hardly believe they are freshmen.”
“Did you really do all this just to confirm that?”
“Doesn’t seem like the one urging more fighting is in a position to criticize. I’m glad the kids fought harder thanks to you.”
I was just cheering them on, you know.
It feels like I ended up throwing wood into this absurd situation.
After a brief break, everyone recovered a bit of strength and returned to the classroom.
“Is anyone hurt?”
At those words, a few students glanced around at their bodies.
It must be pretty amazing that even significant wounds vanished without a trace.
In the end, not a single one was hurt. Thanks to Reina’s quick healing, it seemed there were no residual effects either.
“Thanks for your hard work, everyone. Today is the entrance ceremony, so there won’t be any special lectures. Go back and rest well.”
Confirming that, Reina wrapped things up and left the classroom.
After that, the students began discussing Reina’s abilities, slowly making their way out.
I wanted to follow them, but unfortunately, I couldn’t.
“Well, see you later.”
“Wait a minute, that’s really absurd. If you’re going to call me, at least tell me the reason.”
Since I was called to the student council.
Just then, as Seria left first, I was about to exit the classroom alone…
“Hey, Rudion. Hold on a sec.”
I got caught by Lilith, who was waiting outside the classroom.
She had quite the sulky expression.
Did I upset her by giving too much advice today?
She checked to see if anyone was around before cautiously approaching and whispering.
“Do you have a moment?”
All of a sudden? No, this isn’t good. I should have answered that, but she spoke faster.
“I’ve got a favor to ask. Can you hang out with me for a bit?”
She’s not usually this way. What’s going on?
I had the impulse to refuse but didn’t want to turn her down.
After thinking for a moment, I replied.
“Sure. What’s up?”
