chapter 13
13. Unexpected Trap
‘A couple of disciples, thinking, ‘Why the hell are Rika and Jane interested in that guy?’
They didn’t want to follow the guy who stalks women openly and acts like he’s their male friend.
But what can they do, when the girls they like, Rika and Jane are following him.
They wanted to ask why they were following such a guy, no, they already have asked.
-“Because he’s the class representative, we have to care.”
Always imposing sanctions on Roksa, Rika let out the usual words.
With her arms crossed, she spoke arrogantly with her dead eyes.
-“We need to reciprocate.”
Jane, who seemed to have experienced something due to the gem golem incident with Roksa.
Smiled while speaking some unusual words.
In short, both of them didn’t intend to leave Roksa’s side.
“Roxer, even though you haven’t fully achieved enlightenment, is it okay to proceed with the training?”
“Let it be, he must have his own reasons for coming. Or perhaps he thought I would protect him as I used to.”
“Really? Then this time I will protect him! Last time, I also got enlightenment thanks to Roxer, didn’t I?”
“…Why are you protecting that guy? And you said you got enlightenment from Roxer. Hey Roxer, what does she mean by that?”
Wonder what caused that appearance.
Students were curious about what Roxer had done to Lika and Jane to enjoy happy times between them.
It was even more mysterious considering the current biggest stalker had suddenly changed.
The most popular women in the academy were acting strange, intensifying the mystery.
It was driving them crazy out of curiosity.
The only person who could clear up their doubts was distancing himself from society.
He was not giving any attention or even a glance to anyone unless they asked questions related to the professors’ lecture.
If that wasn’t enough, it was said that he goes to the guild association every lunchtime to have a meal as if he was accomplishing a solo mission.
At first, the employees of the guild association couldn’t believe it.
-“Is that handsome student who visits regularly doing well?”
They even chuckled mentioning Roxer, unaware of his actual identity.
Roxer had always stayed away from the guild union, so much so that the employees weren’t aware he was the damned stalker.
It was unbelievable that he ignored his sacred lunchtime to hunt at the guild association.
Anyway, how could a person change that much?
Whether he sold his soul in a contract with a devil on the street or he really woke up properly, no one knew.
Despite his reputation as a stalker full of vigor, the public opinion about Roxer was slowly changing.
In fact, those who knew little about Roxer were developing a pure curiosity about him, like Jane.
No matter the past reputation.
Now, he was a student with unparalleled skills who soloed the jewel golem.
Besides, despite disliking it, there was no denying that he looked perfect when advancing with Lika and Jane by his side.
And it was even more peculiar.
Stealing many hearts just by changing his attitude and monopolizing the attention of Jane and Lika.
“Hey! Why are you stopping suddenly?”
A student with an envious rough appearance yelled at Roxer who had stopped at a five-way crossroad.
Obviously, he had good reason to stop, but since he had a chance, he openly picked a fight.
Roxer, on the other hand, was wondering which way to go.
Knowing that trying to catch him would only be bothersome, Roxer chose to ignore and concentrate.
‘Surely, I can’t feel it well in this state.’
However, he couldn’t see well through the violet spider web due to the powers around him.
Keeping the force around him while reaching enlightenment consumed a lot of energy.
‘That’s why you shouldn’t depend on abilities.’
Roxer was once again reminding himself why he should completely integrate his strength into his body.
When excellent swordsmen perform sword dances, the energy integrated into their body would bloom.
Creating Tai Chi, blooming plums, or spreading shadows.
He knew that he too must fully digest his power.
Seeing the enemy’s weak points and foreseeing the future even without time-space manipulation.
To achieve that level, he had to maximize his senses by fully integrating his current strength.
Roxer, with his eyes wide open, started to read something instinctively among many hindrances.
“Hmm, which direction should I go?”
“Middle? Or the first one?”
“How about the second crossroad?”
The students were discussing which way to go.
“Hey!! Where do you think you’re going!!!”
Ignoring all that, Roxer walked towards the last crossroad.
Because it wouldn’t matter whether or not they are startled.
But Rica, who needed to discern whether the bastard Roxer remembered the promise or not, followed suit.
In gratitude for enlightenment, Jane tagged along as well.
In the end, the novice adventurers had no choice but to trail after him.
“Tch, does he think he’s some sort of team leader or something?” grumbled a trainee, Tanning, with a distasteful-looking brown hair.
Following Roxer, who summoned a milky white sword into the colorless abyss, was a matter of course.
“What? Is that a call to battle, after hearing a single muttering?”
In answer, the offensively brown-haired novice cautiously drew out his lance.
Jane wielded her aquamarine long sword, matching it with her white aura.
Rica produced a shadow-constructed battle bow, loading it with shadowy arrows.
And then, from the other side, a chilling shriek rent the air inside the cave.
‘What, what?! Did that bastard notice the monster before Jane and Rica did?!’
Across the way, a wolf-shaped monster composed of magma and rubble emerged, echoing a piercing scream.
A fiery-hot beast, known as the Volcano Hound, they were notorious for their brutal aggression and remarkable speed.
Confronting this rapidly moving ‘special entity’ were the trainees.
“Stop dithering about like cowards!”
The irksome brown-haired trainee, Taeseok, charged towards Roxer with opprobrious remarks.
Swift as a forceful stream, he headed straight towards the Volcano Hound, piercing its throat in the first attack.
However rapid the creature might have been, to the novices it was only slightly more nimble than average.
With the number of novices following Rica and Jane exceeding the count of Volcano Hounds, the fight ended one-sidedly.
The same Taeseok, muttering under his breath against Roxer, drew the lance embedded in the skull of the Volcano Hound.
Roxer, plodding forward, approached the grunt.
“Small-minded bastard, what made your eyes flare up like that?”
Taeseok, leaning against a wall, was left wondering if the quiet Roxer was finally revealing his true colors.
By the look in his deadened eyes, he seemed intent on murdering Taeseok.
And just when Taeseok was about to retaliate…
“Agh…!”
The tip of the snow-white sword was already within striking distance of Taeseok’s eyes.
‘Did he…apply teleportation?’
Taeseok, thinking that the usually nonchalant Roxer attacked using a teleporting power he never practiced, was left astounded.
‘Didn’t he say it was sheer luck that he caught the gem golem?’
He tried dodging the sword but its trajectory was off.
With a sharp – Thwack! The sword that was now buried next to him rather than in him.
With a crackling – Zssst! The activated red magic circle was shattered.
“Wait, isn’t that the medium for a self-destruct magic circle!?”
“Eh?? What’s it doing here?”
“Isn’t that really dangerous??”
Jane and the novices were shocked at Roxer’s actions.
Taeseok, breaking into a cold sweat after narrowly escaping death at the hands of a despised adversary, gulped profusely.
Regardless, Roxer discarded his sword and continued on, more heavy steps leading the way.
‘Why is there a magic circle that villains use here?’
To an increase in difficulty? It seemed an unusual event had taken place.
“You’re amazing, as always…! How did you know about that just now? Teach me too!”
Jane, who had once learned enlightenment from Roxer, praised him for discovering something she could not, and continued to follow him.
Of course, being able to see the future, Roxer was unaffected even through interruptions in his visual field.
An unmistakable explosion occurred, prematurely disturbing the written magic circle and destroying it through puncturing.
Jane approached the stunned Rok Saer with a strange closeness.
Jane was quite tall for a woman, and she continued to throw questions at Rok Saer from just slightly beneath him.
As Rok Saer tried to ignore her and continue on with a difficult expression,
“Ah… Why is Jane tangled in all this”
Rika sighed continuously while observing Jane, who was tangled up with Rok Saer, and followed them.
‘Why did the competitor change all of a sudden…’
Originally, she had followed Rok Saer alone, but she wasn’t confident in securing a victory in a fight against this mighty competitor who had suddenly attached himself.
Moreover, it seemed that Rok Saer had some interest in Jane.
Rika wondered whether she should lock up Rok Saer in her room even sooner than planned.
The shocked students stared blankly at their backs.
“Psh, so ostentatious.” Chae Seok, who had survived thanks to Rok Saer, was still in a daze and kicked a stone on the ground in irritation.
Meanwhile, there were those who hadn’t noticed the covert trap made by the self-destructive magic circle just like them.
“Ugh..! Just leave me and go!”
The male student taking the Tanker position who had blocked the explosion magic with his whole body was seriously injured and down.
“What the hell is that thing appearing!!”
“Whoooa, what is that!!!”
“Are the professors crazy??”
“Everyone, pull yourselves together!”
A vast space had been revealed beyond the collapsed cave due to the explosive attack.
Numerous Volcano Hounds and what appeared to be a sleeping ‘Lava Giant’ controlling them sat in a seat of a volcano vent.
They didn’t know when it would open its eyes, but the students couldn’t abandon their companion who had blocked the self-destructive attack with all his power.
‘Ugh! If I had my original staff right now…!’
Erin shivered, holding a staff with lesser performance because she had been robbed of her weapon at a weapon exhibition.
Even if Awakener Academy conducted realistic-oriented practices,
“That’s definitely not a training session!”
“Someone contact the professor!”
A monster with a huge difference in power imposing an overpowering pressure on the students.
There couldn’t be a ‘Lava Giant’.
‘Could we escape from here??’
Erin was annoyed by the thought of going with Rika and the memory of a guy who used to poke his nose into affairs with space shift.
Rok Saer, who usually came and helped, albeit reluctantly, by treating her as a girlfriend and using his unparalleled space-shifting ability, whenever she was in trouble during classes.
‘I shouldn’t rely on that…! Also, I’ll find my staff if I try…!’
Erin shook her brown hair like a puppy shaking its head.
She shook off unwanted thoughts during the battle.
She recalled the group message sent by the Travel Club’s president at lunch.
She mentioned that the request posted on the Guild Alliance had been successfully completed, and there was a method now to find Erin’s staff.
The one who took on and solved the request was in the same freshman year of the Awakener Academy as her.
And the message said that they gladly accepted him into the club, as he seemed like a talented student who had wished to join the Travel Club.
‘I’ll survive here, make a new grateful friend! And get my staff back!’
With hope in her grasp, Erin yelled.
“Calm down, everyone! Let’s hang on until the others come!!”
