chapter 6
6 – First Lecture (2)
Cael’s body shimmered with magic.
He gently pooled the magic from his body into the circuit.
And then, the magic flowed along the circuit and sprang out from his body.
People in the lecture hall were stunned to see this.
Ignoring their reactions, Cael began to speak again.
“First, to use magic, there are 5 conditions.”
Cael pointed to the magical energy that was lingering around him.
Then, he continued to explain.
“The first is magic energy. In order to activate magic, the caster must emit magic.”
Simultaneously, Cael released more magic.
“There are exceptions, but generally, these two are key to increasing power. The quality and quantity of magic. Only those who have trained or those inherently gifted can possess these two aspects, so keep this in mind. And the second is…”
Cael’s hand moved slowly.
The next moment, the shimmering magic from his body orchestrated a beautifully curved line.
People were astounded by the sight of the path of the magic power taking form.
Clearly, they didn’t expect such a vast magic energy to carve out so neatly like this.
“The second condition to activate magic is the circuit. If magic could be activated just by releasing mana, then anyone would become a magician. But.”
Kael slowly and meticulously drew the circuit.
People opened their eyes wide, looking at the circuit.
‘Is that?’
‘A thunderbolt?’
Compared to the beautiful circuit, it was one of the basic spells.
Kael ignored the people’s reactions and continued to explain.
“In this way, you have to draw the circuit.”
The instructors, including the student, were lost for words.
It is definitely a basic magic.
A circuit that anyone here can make.
However, there was something beautiful about the circuit he created.
Just then.
“Can I ask a question?”
A middle-aged man wearing intellectual glasses raised his hand.
Kael tilted his head as if asking him to speak.
Then, he asked a sharp question.
“Everyone here has perfectly mastered that basic magic. But why do you need to explain it?”
All eyes were on Kael at his question.
Kael stroked his chin and pondered.
“Everyone here has perfectly mastered it… Then, how about the gentleman tries it once?”
“Hmm?”
“You said you can do it, so how about showing it to us?”
The next moment, he grinned as if he was pleased.
“I’ll show you right away.”
Beron, the class-A professor with a proud smile.
A blue mana surged from his body.
Soon, a mana line is drawn from his hand.
A circuit similar to Kael’s appeared.
-Woow!
A blue thunderbolt springs forth from his palm.
Kaiel points at the target next to him after seeing it.
“Try hitting this once.”
Berun, with a smirk creeping on his lips.
‘Does he think I won’t be able to hit this thing?’
With that in mind, he sends a thunderbolt towards the seemingly ordinary target.
-Shrruck!
Suddenly, the thunderbolt cuts through the air.
Yet at that moment
– Pheww.
The thunderbolt extinguished just before it reached the target.
Upon seeing this, Berun wore a baffled expression.
Not only him, but other students also harbored doubts.
“What happened? Why did the professor’s magic disappear midway?”
“Right?”
Everyone seems puzzled, and within 0.1 seconds, Kaiel starts to reflect slowly.
Thinking about the form the Thunderbolt needs to take for maximum efficiency.
As he thought of a thunderbolt that could pierce through the object in front of him, he started to change the shape of the force.
Then.
-Woong.
A thunderbolt made of blue energy appears before his eyes.
The sight startled the students.
“Huh? What’s that?”
“Is that a Thunderbolt?”
It is undeniably the same magic as Berun’s just now.
As proof, isn’t the circuit drawn in Kaiel’s hand identical?
Yet, unlike the thunderbolt that Berun made, the magic in front of them has transformed into a spear form.
And that wasn’t the end of it.
They all wonder how no sparks flew from the spear.
Because the thunderbolts they knew had always produced sparks of magical energy.
“You might question this. Is that really a thunderbolt?”
At these words, most of the students felt a pang of doubt.
Kael, unfazed by the students’ reaction, continued.
“The difference between the thunderbolt I created just now and the one made by another professor earlier, is an idea and form.”
Kael tapped his forehead gently.
“Of course, magic power and circuitry matters while creating magic, but if that’s all we use, we’re just ordinary individuals who know how to use magic, not magicians.”
“·····.”
“A magician is originally a creator of magic. Imagine the thunderbolt magic in its most potent form that you can conceive. Then form change is based on that very imagination.”
“But, but isn’t it possible to just make a good appearance?!”
Suddenly, Beron criticized Kael’s thunderbolt.
Kael smiled, as if anticipating it.
Pointing to a target in front, he said,
“Didn’t I say before? You need the quantity and quality of magical power to enhance the power of magic. But there are exceptions, remember?”
Kael then, filled with confidence, launched his thunderbolt.
“And that exception is nothing other than form change.”
With those words, Kael’s thunderbolt shot out.
– Paaiiiin!
A thunderbolt that heated and soared through the air.
Then the next moment,
– Woosh!
Unlike Beron’s, Kael’s thunderbolt hit the target right in the middle.
Upon seeing this, everyone looked surprised.
It was definitely the same thunderbolt.
How could the raw power differ only due to a form change?
“That’s absurd! The power of the same thunderbolt, is that even possible?”
Suddenly, Beron countered with an incredulous expression.
Surely, they all must harbor the same doubt.
Even after form transformation, the effect can vary drastically even though it’s the same magic.
“The quality and quantity of magic power were different from the beginning! So, of course, the power can differ drastically!”
“Hmm, then I’ll have to show you once more.”
This time, Kael created a Thunderbolt with significantly less magical power than Beron.
And in less than a second.
-Zap!
Just then, another Thunderbolt launched towards the target.
Everyone assumed it would disappear before even reaching the target, as before.
But, contrary to everyone’s expectations,
-Boom!
It hit dead on, no different than the previous one.
Seeing that, the people in the classroom opened their mouths in surprise.
However, Kael, dismissive of their reactions, explained.
“The transformation of magical power. It’s a basic fundamental. The clash of power and quality between witches is important, but sometimes the outcome of a fight can be decided by transformation alone.”
“I have a question!”
At that moment, Elia, her eyes sparkling, abruptly raised her hand.
Kael looked at her and said,
“Go ahead.”
“Why didn’t sparks fly from your magic earlier, Professor?!”
The others were staring at Kael with curiosity-filled eyes.
Kael then created another Thunderbolt just as he done previously.
“To the naked eye, it would appear as a spear constructed of magical power. However, I contained lightning, the property of a Thunderbolt, within this spear.”
“Yo-you contained it?”
Maria blurted out, a surprised look on her face.
At this, Kael merely nodded.
“Yes. I contained it within the spear and designed it to explode the moment it hit the target. That way, unnecessary magical power wouldn’t leak out.”
The students were awestruck by Kael’s explanation.
It sounds incredibly simple when he explained it.
However, everyone there knows.
Just how unimaginable that feat is.
“That’s it for basic magic. Now, I wonder, is there anyone here who has fully mastered basic magic?”
At this question, the students bowed their heads in embarrassment.
At first, they wondered why they were being taught basic magic.
He boasted that he had mastered all the basic magic completely.
But, after watching Cael’s magic, that thought vanished completely.
Logically, it is impossible to use basic magic to that extent.
Cael caught their attention and said,
“So far, all you’ve done is imitate the magic in the books. Therefore, I’ll give you an assignment.”
“Assignment?”
“On the first day?”
They were all visibly shocked. They hadn’t expected to get an assignment on their first day.
Cael’s eyes glinted sharply as he looked at them.
“Do you have a problem?”
At his question, the startled students quickly shook their heads.
They were simply surprised by the mention of an assignment.
Impartially, Cael’s lecture was of a high enough standard to warrant a round of applause.
“By the next class, make sure you can accurately hit that target with a thunderbolt. But don’t mimic the form I just demonstrated today, or it will be considered zero.”
With those words, Cael ended the lecture.
There was a moment of awkward silence in the lecture hall.
There was a feeling of a sudden storm having passed.
Who would have expected that such an unexpected lecture would turn out to be so exemplary.
The most astonished among them,
“Uh …?”
was the childhood friend of Cael, Nell.
