Chapter 9 - The Ancestor of the General Management Team
‘In confrontation with the Punishment Team’s ancestor in front of the 12th District gate.’
The moment she heard that report, Yeon-ah flew out of the tower towards the gate without even taking time to confirm the detailed situation.
What she used to fly was the ability to manipulate wind obtained from the ancestor’s genes.
As she was riding the wind, Yeon-ah was flying through the air at a very high speed, but as time passed, she infused more power into the wind carrying her due to her growing anxiety.
“Just a little faster…”
Whoosh—!
Then, as if obeying Yeon-ah’s urgent state of mind, the wind began to run even faster.
And Yeon-ah, with her eyes wide open, surveyed the situation at the 12th District gate, which had begun to appear small in the distance.
“I hope nothing serious has happened… Why did the Punishment Team have to schedule such an event today of all days.”
Her teeth gritted at the meeting with the Punishment Team, which was too malicious to be called a coincidence.
An ordinary person seeing this might think she was being unnecessarily irritable, but there was sufficient justification for Yeon-ah to be this angry.
The owners of the genes called ancestors were weaknesses that should not be revealed to each faction, and at the same time, they were no different from gods who were the focus of power.
In other words, this meant that the appearance of the ancestor should never be exposed to others.
But from the point where their schedules overlapped and met with the Punishment Team, the ancestor’s appearance would have spread even to ordinary civilians, and the fact that the ancestor was there in the first place meant that Yeon-ah’s own protection had been utterly inadequate.
“The General Management Team’s security department would have all come out, so the aftermath shouldn’t be a problem… I just hope the sacred body is unharmed…”
Moreover, unlike the team leaders of other factions, Yeon-ah was a descendant who was wholeheartedly sincere to the ancestor.
If anything happened to the ancestor’s sacred body, she felt her sense of guilt would truly exceed its limits, so Yeon-ah flew quickly towards the gate, hoping that no fight would break out before she arrived.
However, unfortunately, uneasy premonitions always come true, don’t they?
Kwaaaa—!!!
“Oh no…”
As if a volcanic eruption had occurred, Yeon-ah inadvertently let out a curse at the huge and fierce pillar of fire that rose from right in front of the gate.
She had hoped so much that no fight would break out, but in the end, a battle had erupted.
Of course, the familiar energy felt from that power suggested that the attack was carried out by Yeon-ah’s own ancestor, but the fact that an incident had occurred remained the same.
Now, the ancestor’s ability, which should have been veiled, was exposed to numerous people.
The only thing she could consider fortunate was that there was a high possibility that the ancestor had not suffered any physical harm.
Therefore, Yeon-ah, while letting out a sigh, barely managed to increase her speed and rushed forward, and the moment she arrived at the gate area.
“What a… terrible sight.”
Yeon-ah lost her words and clicked her tongue at the sight that met her eyes as she landed on the ground.
Crackle, crackle—
The area where Yeon-ah had landed was still whirling with white ash due to the tremendous heat that hadn’t cooled down from the pillar of fire that had risen earlier, and the heat rising from under her shoes showed how enormous the heat of the recent fire pillar had been.
And what could be seen around were the half-melted palanquin despite being made of iron, and corpses that had been human but were now black charcoal lumps.
If that had been all, it would have ended as just a horrific sight, but the sight of the Punishment Team hunters regenerating from their corpse-like state, having received the Punishment Team ancestor’s genes, added a horrific element on top of the dreadfulness.
However, while frowning and clicking her tongue at such a sight, it was only for a moment before Yeon-ah had to close her mouth with a gasp at the sight of a girl standing nobly at the center of this terrible scene, exuding anger.
‘That person…’
It was clear.
Yeon-ah muttered inwardly that there was no way the appearance of the person before her eyes could be an illusion.
Because she could affirm without a doubt that the face of the girl standing nobly was exactly the same as the girl in the amber in the basement that Yeon-ah had visited without fail for the past few years.
‘That person is our ancestor…’
Having confirmed that the girl before her eyes was indeed the ancestor, Yeon-ah felt herself losing her senses for a moment.
The one she had longed to awaken for so long had really awakened, and was standing there with an angry expression, so she had no idea what she should do.
This was completely opposite to Yeon-ah’s usual flawless and cold demeanor, but it couldn’t be helped because Yeon-ah was more sincere to the ancestor than anyone else.
And normally, if Yeon-ah were this flustered, she would have remained frozen, but unfortunately, the mind of Yeon-ah, the team leader of the General Management Team, did not allow that even unconsciously.
‘Get a grip.’
As soon as she realized that the girl before her eyes was the ancestor, she assessed her current state and collected evidence from the surroundings to calculate why she was showing such an appearance.
Eventually, the order given to her body by Yeon-ah’s brilliant mind after finishing the calculations was… a very simple one.
“I stand before my great ancestor.”
“…Huh?”
It was none other than greeting her while showing her own identity and her respect and loyalty towards her.
And as the ancestor reacted and turned her head, Yeon-ah immediately uttered the words she had thought of in advance fluently.
“I am Lee Yeon-ah, the team leader of the General Management Team, who can be called the head of this city. If you ask about me, I am the eldest daughter of the family that has taken care of you until you awoke from the amber, and the owner of the silver-gray space where you awoke.”
“Hmm? Ah, I said I woke up in a completely unfamiliar place, so you were the owner of that place. You were protecting me?”
“That’s correct.”
Before the ancestor could have any doubts about her sudden appearance, she quickly revealed her identity and talked about the silver-gray space that the ancestor would have seen, forming a connection.
Probably, having awakened after more than 60 years, this world, which had developed incomparably from the past, would feel very unfamiliar to her.
In such a situation, the fact that she was someone related to her would undoubtedly feel familiar.
“Hmm…”
As expected, the ancestor’s expression, which had been angry, gradually softened as she looked at her.
Yeon-ah inwardly breathed a sigh of relief as the situation unfolded as she had thought, but if she showed it here, it was obvious that it would arouse suspicion, so she tried hard to hold onto the thread of tension and continued speaking.
“I believe you must have many questions, but could you please follow me first? I will answer all the questions you want, so let’s move to a comfortable place first.”
“Hmm… Indeed, there’s a lot I want to ask about those guys regenerating over there, the energy of our race I feel from you, and this city right away… Alright, I’ll do as you say for now.”
“Thank you for trusting me. I will make sure not to disappoint you.”
At the ancestor’s answer agreeing to follow her obediently, Yeon-ah unconsciously got excited and barely managed to push down her hand that was about to shake.
And right on cue, the security department of the General Management Team, which had arrived first following Yeon-ah, approached while sealing off the area around the gate.
Clank–! Clank–! Clank–!
Wearing top-grade equipment made by grinding whole mana stones, the systematically trained security department personnel narrowed their formation while catching people trying to escape.
“We ask all of you here to stand in place and not move. For those who have experienced mental shock, we will take care of you, so please maintain a stationary state.”
And Dong-jae, the general manager of the security department, standing at the forefront of everyone as if trying to cover up even a little of his mistake, was organizing the situation.
Seeing him like that, Yeon-ah got up from where she had been kneeling for a moment and turned towards him.
“General Manager.”
“Yes, please speak.”
“First, I will take the ancestor back to the tower. The General Manager will take responsibility and erase the memories of the Punishment Team hunters here and the civilians over there to prevent any leak of information about the ancestor. And before that, check the surveillance cameras and if anyone has left, catch them in advance and take the same measures.”
“I will carry out your orders.”
First, the information about the ancestor that must be erased from here will be resolved by erasing everyone’s memories.
This would require requesting the help of the Fallen Fairy tribe with the power of memory manipulation, which was expected to be quite expensive, but it was rather cheap considering it was the price to cover up the information leak, so there was no hesitation.
After taking her eyes off Dong-jae, who answered with a tense look, Yeon-ah looked over the group of civilians once, and only after sending a wind bullet towards the cameras of several crouching reporters among them did she turn back to the ancestor.
“Additionally, please compensate for those cameras I just destroyed.”
“Yes, I understand.”
“If there’s any information that has already leaked, block it even if you have to pay money.”
“Yes.”
It seemed they had tried to transmit what they had filmed before being confiscated, but there was nothing more that could be done once the cameras were destroyed.
And even if some had already been transmitted, it could be blocked with money.
Therefore, after confirming that there were no more worries, Yeon-ah finally moved her turned body quickly, and standing right in front of the ancestor who was staring at her, she bowed deeply with sincere emotion.
“Then I will guide you to our General Management Team’s tower, ancestor.”
“Alright, let’s go then.”
As Yeon-ah straightened up first and started walking, the ancestor followed behind.
Now that the long-cherished wish of the family had become reality.
Yeon-ah sent deep gratitude in her heart towards the god, with a mind more steeped in happiness than ever before in her life.
Gratitude towards the god called ancestor, who was silently following behind her.
