I Became a Goblin Ancestor

Chapter 6 - Follow Human Laws in Human Cities

The human city I first looked around after coming out of the alley.

That scenery was truly beyond imagination.

Five towers soaring high into the sky in the distance, and strange white buildings with unique shapes extending from there.

Having only ever stayed in thatched houses in my lifetime, I couldn’t help but be amazed at the strangely curved buildings of humans.

Although I was unfamiliar with human civilization, I couldn’t help but recognize that tremendous technology must have gone into those visible buildings.

And Hwa-gon, who had seen things called apartments in the past, was equally amazed like me, having never seen such buildings before.

Moreover, we could only gape at the translucent light windows floating in the sky, the strange iron masses making ear-piercing sounds, and the white floor material that looked like it could reflect faces, unlike the stone floor of the alley.

But our amazement was short-lived. I had to immediately return to the alley.

In normal circumstances, I would have just closed my surprised mouth and looked around, but for some reason, all the humans walking on the street were glancing at me.

At first, I thought it was because my appearance was so exceptionally beautiful that their gazes were piercing my face, but including those gazes, I could notice thanks to the glances at my clothes.

The goblin clothes made of leopard skin.

That the clothes I was wearing were so different from the clothes of humans in this era.

So I immediately went back to the alley, spitting out curses, and with Hwa-gon’s help, created a new outfit suitable for humans of this era.

And now, having completely changed into the newly created clothes.

I stepped out onto the street again from the alley.

Thud—

“Hmm, at this level… it shouldn’t look awkward, right?”

『From what I can see, it looks very natural. It seems the surrounding humans aren’t suspicious about the clothes either.』

Standing proudly mixed among humans on the street. I looked down at the clothes I was wearing and muttered awkwardly.

First, my top changed to match the modern era was a black crop top, and my bottom was also short black shorts fixed with a belt, and the stone mask I had taken off was fixed and hung on the belt at my waist.

On top of that, a loose jumper mixing white and black covering more than half of my body.

Finally, Hwa-gon, the horned club, was in my hand, transformed into an ordinary silver club.

“Compared to the leopard skin clothes, it’s rather comfortable and nice, but since it’s my first time in such an outfit, it’s quite nerve-wracking…”

It was a bit embarrassing or uncomfortable with the gaze as it was an outfit that clearly exposed my navel, but what could I do since it was the outfit Hwa-gon had begged me to wear.

Of course, more than that, I was worried about the possibility of enemies suddenly attacking given such an open outfit, but goblin skin is tougher than rubber and harder than most iron, so there was no need to worry too much even with this outfit.

Moreover, as Hwa-gon said, the people around didn’t seem to look at my outfit strangely like before, so I finally took a deep breath and started to move.

Thud thud—

“It certainly feels like human civilization has developed tremendously, probably because 70 years have passed.”

The strange objects and human appearances visible with each step I took.

According to my childhood memories, humans were supposed to live without going against nature as much as possible, cultivating nature, and making a living from what grew in nature, but the humans now were completely the opposite.

“There’s not a hint of natural energy, and the clothes don’t seem to be made from natural materials, and those translucent windows? that everyone has are just bizarre.”

『It’s really as you say. The humans of this world 70 years ago were already half separated from nature, but now it seems they’ve completely become independent.』

“But they’ve certainly become independent to an admirable degree of perfection.”

『That’s true.』

I continued walking down the street, having trivial conversations with Hwa-gon.

Although it was truly regrettable that humans had become independent from nature, I didn’t particularly want to criticize their appearance.

After all, I am of the goblin race and they are of the human race.

From birth to death, everything is different, so how could I demand that they move according to my wishes?

Therefore, I just inwardly swallowed my admiration for how they had developed and aimlessly walked the streets.

“Huh?”

『What is that?』

And if it weren’t for something that caught my eye after passing a building, I would have continued my aimless walk.

Wooong—

“…A blue hole? I feel some kind of unique attraction.”

A blue hole rotating in an oval shape in mid-air, emitting a strange sound.

I stopped in my tracks at the sight of it, existing between buildings after passing one.

It was a hole that didn’t fit at all with the surrounding developed human city landscape, but seeing that no one was surprised by it, it seemed to have existed for a long time.

“There are a lot of people gathered.”

『It seems some kind of festival is happening.』

Moreover, Hwa-gon and I muttered with interest at the humans gathered in a circle surrounding the blue hole.

“Kyaaaa!! Mr. Hyun-sung!!!”
“Look over here please~!!”
“Wooooow!!!”

The humans gathered in front of the blue hole each shouted cheers or exclamations and waved their hands vigorously.

People expressing genuine joy as if there was something in front of it.

Indeed, as Hwa-gon said, it seemed like a festival was happening, and I felt my interest growing even more at that sight, so I approached the crowd gathered in front because I couldn’t see well from where I was standing.

“Hmm, I still can’t see well from here?”

『Wouldn’t you be able to see better if you pushed through?』

“But if I push incorrectly, someone might get hurt…”

『Ah… certainly. A goblin’s strength is too much for ordinary humans to withstand.』

I wanted to squeeze between the crowd and check what was in front, but given the difference in strength, I was worried about pushing arbitrarily.

Even though I’m a mutant much smaller than ordinary goblins, my goblin strength remained the same, so if I pushed wrongly, there was a risk of bones breaking.

If such a thing happened in this festive atmosphere, it would surely ruin all the cheering and everything, so I stepped back a little from behind the standing crowd after letting out a small sigh while pondering.

And then I.

“If I can’t push through…”

Tap—!

With a light tiptoe, I drew the wind and flew up into the sky.

“I can just fly.”

If it was the sky where no one existed, there was no need to consider the humans on the ground.

As I flew up, I heard someone shouting and pointing, but it soon disappeared, buried under the surrounding noise, so I didn’t pay much attention and looked down at the scenery from the air.

“Indeed, humans are gathered there.”

『Seeing that there’s something like a carriage behind them, it seems they came out of that blue hole.』

As I rose into the air, I could finally see what the people were cheering for.

What caught my eye was none other than a strangely shaped carriage and humans in armor standing around it.

There were about a dozen of them, all in armor covered in blood, but they seemed used to it, smiling brightly and waving to the crowd even in that state.

“Then… what exactly is that blue hole?”

And after confirming what the crowd was cheering for, the next thing my gaze went to was the blue hole they seemed to have come out of.

I slowly approached the blue hole, which must have been about 100 cheok (about 33m) high and 30 cheok (about 10m) wide.

『Seeing the traces of their fighting, wouldn’t it be some kind of den of enemies they’re at war with?』

“But for such an enemy den to be in the middle of the city like this?”

『Hmm… that is strange indeed…』

Certainly, judging by how bloodied those below were, there must have been combat inside, but who would leave a hole where such combat could occur in the middle of the city?

I knew that humans weren’t that stupid, even though they were ignorant of things other than physical phenomena.

Even the humans in ‘my original world’ were like that, so how could the humans in ‘this world’ who had developed over decades be like that?

Therefore, although I didn’t clearly know anything about the blue hole in front of me now, fortunately, the way to solve this was simple.

“Well… I guess I’ll just have to check it out myself.”

『Hmm, that would be the surest way.』

If I’m curious about what this blue hole is, can’t I just check it out myself?

Whoosh—!

So I removed the wind supporting my body and fell quickly towards the ground, and immediately after landing, I got up and approached the blue hole.

It seems I’m the type who can’t stand it if there’s something I’m curious about, and I only feel satisfied if I check it out myself.

So without hesitation, I slowly brought my hand to the rippling hole and.

“Hey you!! What illegal act are you committing!!!”

Just before my hand entered the hole, I couldn’t help but stop at the shout I heard.

“Huh?”

When I turned my head at the sudden shout, what I saw was the scene of those who had been in a festive mood until just now looking at me with surprised, angry, and bewildered expressions.

And the one who shouted at me seemed to be one of the humans in armor who had been waving to the people.

“How dare you commit such an absurd act where our Punishment Team is present, and in front of our ancestor’s eyes! Are you ready to be dragged to the punishment room?”
“What do you mean…”

I felt that something was wrong as the man approached, mentioning words that caught my ear like punishment and punishment room.

Being more sensitive to lies than anyone else from the start, I had already grasped that his words were true.

So I hurriedly racked my brains trying to figure out what was wrong, and in less than a few seconds, I was able to reach one conclusion I could draw in the current situation.

“Ah, was this a place I shouldn’t have entered arbitrarily?”
“Huh…?”
“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to break human rules. It was my fault for entering arbitrarily, so I’ll apologize.”

The conclusion I reached was that this was a place where one shouldn’t enter arbitrarily.

I should have noticed from the start by looking at the people forming a crowd on the outskirts without entering this far, but I guess it’s been a while since I came to a place where humans live, so I unknowingly acted like in the old days.

In the old days, when humans saw us goblins, they would give us anything first and take us anywhere.

However, I had heard that the humans of this world are sensitive about these aspects, so I guessed that was the mistake I had made and bowed my waist with the intention of apologizing.

Then, as if my thoughts were correct, the man in armor stopped without saying anything more.

Seeing him like that, I tried hard to suppress the question about the blue hole that had settled in a corner of my mind and turned my steps.

“Then I’ll be going now. I’m really sorry.”

If you come to a human city, you should follow human laws.

I offered one more additional apology and started to hurry my turned steps and.

“How incredibly rude. Do you dare to think of disgracing our Punishment Team in front of our ancestor?”

Bang—!!!

A huge red sword was violently thrust down in front of me as I was about to take a step.

And then a woman who looked like the leader walking towards me.

It seemed that the problem was not enough to end with just an apology.
